AUCTION CLOSED

Thanks to the generosity of the 10 winning bidders, $6,025 is going to the various charities selected by content creators, along with an additional $4,950 from Stonemaier Games. The overall total, $10,975, is more than double last year's total!

In 2013, 2014, 2015, and 2016 we raised a total of $14,559 for 42 different charities selected by some of our favorite bloggers, podcasters, and video creators. We're back this year to auction off early, signed copies of Charterstone*, plus the recharge pack, custom meeples from Meeplesource, and realistic resources from Top Shelf Gamer.

As a special bonus this year, Stonemaier Games will match the winning bid for each of the 10 auctions (up to $500 each) to double the corresponding charitable donation.

Here's how it works:

This Geeklist features 10 separate auctions. Each auction is attributed to an amazing blog, podcast, or video channel and their charity of choice.

The auctions will begin on Wednesday, November 1 and will end on Sunday, November 5 at 2:00 pm CST. Payments will be submitted to us through the BGG marketplace (PayPal) after the auctions close, and the games will be shipped within a few days.

--Bidding starts at $1. Bids must increase in increments of at least $1 USD. To discourage final-hour sniping, in the final hour of the auction, bids must increase in increments of at least $25.
--Each auction will have 1 winner. Thus there will be 10 winners.
--The content creator whose auction garners the most thumbs will also receive an early copy of Charterstone. So you can support your favorite media creator(s) without even bidding!
--200% of all winning bids (minus BGG processing fees) will go to the charities selected by these media creators. That is, we will match each winning bid (up to $500) for the charitable donation.

The winning bidder of each auction will receive:

--1 early, signed copy of Charterstone
--1 copy the Charterstone recharge pack
--1 set of custom Charterstone meeples from Meeplesource
--1 set of realistic resource tokens for Charterstone from Top Shelf Gamer
--Free shipping anywhere in the world from St. Louis

Winning bidders will have 3 days to pay; after that we'll revert to the second-highest bidder.

Thank you for supporting these amazing charities and talented content creators!

*Charterstone will be available from most retailers on December 12.

DING AND DENT - The Guatemala Tomorrow Fund

This auction item is in recognition of Ding and Dent--an excellent podcast and blog--run by Raf Cordero and Charlie Theel, who selected The Guatemala Tomorrow Fund as their charity of choice.

"The charity we'd like to support is The Guatemala Tomorrow Fund. The name in Guatemala is Ak'Tenamit, which means New Village in the Mayan language K'iche'. They're celebrating 25 years this year. My mom works for the organization in the US, and as someone born in Guatemala the organization means a lot to us and my family. The organization provides education, health services, rural vocational training, and income development with a focus on gender equity. Part of the goal of providing these opportunities are so that the rural youth can remain in their communities to strengthen them and not have to risk dangerous travel into large cities or other countries."

WE'RE NOT WIZARDS - Rachel House in Kinross, Scotland

This auction item is in recognition of We're Not Wizards--a humorous interview-driven podcast--run by Richard Simpson, who selected Rachel House in Kinross, Scotland as his charity of choice.

"There is a children's hospice about 10 miles from me called Rachel House in Kinross, Scotland. I can't think of a more deserving charity that does some outstanding work for families that go through the toughest times they could ever face. Any money we can help them raise would make such a difference to the quality of life for these children."

THE CARDBOARD HERALD - The Hispanic Federation and their "Unidos" Disaster Relief and Recovery Fund

This auction item is in recognition of The Cardboard Herald--a fantastic interview-drive podcast--run by Jack Eddy, who selected The Hispanic Federation and their "Unidos" Disaster Relief and Recovery Fund as his charity of choice.

"This emergency relief fund is of critical importance for those Puerto Ricans still suffering in the aftermath of Hurricane Maria. The hurricane has had a devastating effect on the island, with unprecedented damage to families, homes, and infrastructure. The Hispanic Federation, based in New York City, aims to provide emergency relief to Puerto Ricans and help the island establish new infrastructure for long-term stability. As fellow Americans, victims of a disaster, and above all, humans in desperate need, I feel incredibly passionate about aiding the residents of Puerto Rico through The Hispanic Federation's "Unidos" Fund."

SPACE-BIFF - Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation

This auction item is in recognition of Space-Biff--a great written review blog--run by Dan Thurot, who selected Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation as his charity of choice.

"The Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation and other type-1 diabetes groups are near and dear to my heart, as two of my sisters were diagnosed with type-1 diabetes at a very young age. As is the case with type-1 diabetes, this wasn't a "sugar disease" caused by poor diet or lifestyle choices. Our father was a surgeon and we were raised to watch what we ate and exercise regularly. I only mention this because of the stigma that kids who contract diabetes must have in some way been responsible for their condition. Within the span of about a year, we went from a regular happy family with no major health issues to one where daily insulin injections and finger-pricks — as well as the sudden absence of sugary desserts — proved deeply traumatic for my four- and three-year-old sisters, the second of whom was too young to understand why she was regularly subjected to such painful and frightening procedures. For years we struggled to control their conditions, which manifested as everything from hypoglycemic seizures to the simple fear of being too far away from their glucose meters. One time, we kids were locked out of our house when one of my sisters began showing signs of a dropping blood sugar level, and we came this close to breaking our own back window to get in. The tension was constant.

It was a slow process, but assistance from a number of non-profit groups like the JDRF made all the difference in not only helping my sisters learn to control their diabetes, but also for the rest of my family to help them every step of the way. In place of regular summer camps, we attended diabetes camp, where we practiced injecting insulin into oranges, learned how to administer life-saving doses of glucagon hormone, and most importantly, learned that diabetes didn't have to dominate our lives. It took a long time, but both of my sisters were able to rise to the challenge of controlling their diabetes, and both are now medical professionals. One specializes in dietetics while the other is a biomedical engineer, and both face the realities of type-1 diabetes every day, both professionally and at home.

The reality is that type-1 diabetes never goes away, which is why the JDRF is committed to ridding the world of this horrible disease. As they put it, they hope to turn "Type One into Type None.""

CARDBOARD VAULT - beyondblue

This auction item is in recognition of Cardboard Vault--a wonderful video series--run by Phoebe Wild, who selected beyond blue as her charity of choice.

"My charity of choice is beyondblue. This is an Australian organisation dedicated to helping people who are affected by mental illness, especially depression and anxiety.

This is a cause close to my heart. I personally struggle with depression, and I've seen many of my close friends impacted by depression and anxiety as well. Mental health is often difficult to talk about and even more difficult to treat. beyondblue does incredible work to address the social stigma that often prevents people from seeking help, as well as providing a wide variety of free resources to help people with management and treatment."

TANTRUM HOUSE - Ronald McDonald House Charities of the Carolinas

This auction item is in recognition of Tantrum House--a superb video channel for reviews, previews, and news--run by Will and Sara Meadows, Ryan and Katie Pilz, Kevin and Melissa Delp, and Ben and Sabrina Fields, who selected Ronald McDonald House Charities of the Carolinas as their charity of choice.

"Tantrum House would like to show it's support to the Ronald McDonald House Charities of the Carolinas. And it's not just because it also has "House" in its name, but it's actually a cause that's near and dear to our hearts. Over the past 27 years the Ronald McDonald house in Greenville, SC has served as a refuge for more than 11,000 families who were caught in waiting while their sick children were in the hospital. About three years ago several of our Tantrum House Crew started volunteering there by baking meals, restocking their pantry, and just showing up to play with the other kids who were staying there. The Ronald McDonald House is in the process of fundraising with a $3.5M goal in order to build a new 17,500 sq.ft. expansion that will feature 12 new rooms and allow them to double the number of families they can serve. We are thrilled to be able to contribute to that goal."

THE DAILY WORKER PLACEMENT - Path of Play

This auction item is in recognition of The Daily Worker Placement--a beautifully formatted and written review blog--run by Sean Jacquemain and Nicole Hoye, who selected Path of Play as their charity of choice.

"Our charity of choice is Path of Play. It is an organization started by Mike Primeau and his wife Carmela with the stated goal of assisting families with children on the autism spectrum. They have been been personally affected, when their son, Luke was diagnosed with autism. Since then, they've worked tirelessly to create family play days for families with children with special needs. Nicole and I will be taking part in the Path of Play Global Gaming Marathon on December 2nd, to help raise money for the project.

Aside from knowing Mike, Carmela, and Luke personally, we really love the practice of using games as a way to form connections and aid development. As gamers, we know the benefits everyone can experience from the hobby, but it's particularly evident with children with special needs. Games have a magical power, and we can see that power at work in the projects of Path of Play.

Two of the major goals of Path of Play are to speed up the access to intervention therapy for families waiting for public programs, and to create a gaming space where children of all walks of life can come together to connect over the love of play. Both are incentives we feel strongly about."
