Well, I've backed a lot of things on kickstarter, and it seems to be useful to folks to go over their history of games and what they thought of each of them. Also, there's a lot of games I've backed and haven't played yet, and hopefully this will spur me into playing more of them.

As a note, some of these entries will mention my wife, Tammy, who for a number of years was running the Puffing Billy events at GenghisCon in Denver, as well as helping out with Railcon when it was run alongside Tacticon. Unfortunately health problems and a change in ownership of Tacticon has severed this relationship, but my wife is still a big fan of train games.

The items are in the order that they showed up in my kickstarter history, which is why sometimes games that have just arrived are next to games that I've played a lot. I'm planning on coming back and filling in a few items that don't exist on BGG but are still.. boardgamey.

Not the first thing I backed on kickstarter - that would be the 2009 "One Page Dungeon Codex" - but the first boardgame was this item, purchased because I thought my wife would like it. This was one of my first exposures to the dangers of backing something as a gift for someone else, as the game was late.

That said, when the game did arrive my wife did enjoy it, as did I, and she toted it along to various Puffing Billy events. I think it's still packed in a trunk of train games.

Would back again.

Here's an early backed game that I haven't gotten around to playing yet. It looked cool, but by the time it had arrived I didn't feel the impulse to play it, so it's sat on a shelf. I think it's in my daughter's room, actually, which is odd because she's six.

I am a big fan of Call of Cthulhu. I am a fan of deckbuilders, and I'm generally a fan of Luke Peterschmidt's work, so I went in on this project in late 2011.

Sadly, the game was bad. I didn't like it at all, and eventually sold or traded it off to someone else - I don't even remember for what.

Would not back again.

A tiny abstract, this game looked fun in the kickstarter, but when it arrived it didn't quite make sense. Apparently it's something in the rulebook that's not catching with me, but there were a number of other folks eagerly asking for videos of gameplay at the time, which never surfaced. I should probably drag it out again and try it with my daughter and see if it works better this time. That said, with no activity on the boardgamegeek page for several years, it seems that this game has faded from memory.

Edit: I probably wouldn't back this again. I've got lots of better abstracts.

I forgot about this one.

As a game, I vaguely remember being unimpressed by the rules. As a custom deck of playing cards, it looks nice enough, although newer decks look better.

I wonder where this ended up? I don't remember getting rid of it.

Would not back again.

In addition to spending too much money on Kickstarter, I'm a fan of spending too much money on LEGO bricks as well, so the idea of a tabletop game where you fight with mecha built from LEGO was a sure thing for me.

The rules looked good, and I've got them shelved for later, when my daughter might be more interested in them. The fact that this kickstarter delivered a slim book means that it doesn't take up much room while I wait. (I also backed the later Mobile Frame kickstarter.)

Would back again.

Amusingly, although I backed this kickstarter, I didn't get the game - I'm an old-school Car Wars fan, and backed to show it and get a Car Wars tshirt.

Every once in a while I'm very tempted to pick up Ogre - it's got so many yummy bits! But I know I'd never play it.

Edit: I would back again, but then again, I just got the tshirt.

I'm a big fan of Mike Maihack's artwork, so when I heard he was doing a card game I was all ready for it, and backed for this game. I haven't played it yet, but I should drag it out now that my daughter's more grown up and play it with her.

Even if I don't like the game, I love the artwork. (If you like it, I suggest Mike's 'Cleopatra in Space' books.)

Edit: I probably would back this again, because it's cute and not expensive.

I've long been a fan of RoboRally, and have an original set from way back in 1994 or so. But it's a bit of a bother to actually play, so I got interested in (and crafted) a dice-based variant that I found here on the site. So, when I found that they were doing an actual constructed copy of the game, I went in on it, even with the necessary theme shift.

I like the game idea, but the couple times I've played it it hasn't really grabbed me as hard as I'd expect it to. I should try and drag this out and give it another go.

This kickstarter, titled "The Official Settlers of Catan Gaming Board" should be a famous example of biting off more than you can chew and crashing and burning.

They started out with a simple board that would hold the hexes in place, expanded out to allow for more players and more space for Seafarers, added card-holders for the resource decks, and I think eventually did a second kickstarter to raise more money. Not that you can see this, because there's a rights dispute and the campaign has been hidden.

Amusingly, I actually got what I backed for, which was the basic board. I didn't go in for the resource holders or the extra players or anything, and this meant that I got fulfilled early on. Also amusingly, I haven't played catan in a long time, so although I got this board, I've never used it.

Kickstarters are funny that way.

Edit: I would buy this again, although backing this company is obviously a bit of a crapshoot. Even if I haven't used it, this is a nice solution to the problem of having to nudge or move a basic game of Catan. (Which I continue to think of in my head as Settlers, because I'm old.)

This was an odd little cardboard image-building game that I backed on a whim. I don't think it ever went anywhere, but I got my copy, although I don't know if I ever punched it out - it felt a little cheaper than I expected it to feel. I've never played it, and I think it went into storage.

On the other hand, this is the first time I ran into how Game Salute could screw up a kickstarter. Nearly a year late, this game just dragged in production, and I remember being rather annoyed at GS, to the point that when the game finally arrived I put it on a shelf and never played it.

My daughter liked playing with the Elephant meeples, though.

I love funky dice. I haven't listed them, but there's been a number of dice kickstarters that I've backed in this list, but aren't technically games, especially geomorph dice.

So, this game/toy consisting of Celtic Knot dice was something I eagerly backed. Haven't really played with it, but it's very pretty and I'm happy to have it.

But during my wife's health problems, I just haven't had the time or the spoons to crack it open and give it a try. Hopefully soon.

So, when there was a non-collectible game that was supposed to be similar to Magic, I decided to back it and give it a try! It looks cool, but my wife isn't really into MTG either these days, so I haven't had a chance to play it. Oh, well.
