Unfortunetly I am yet to take the plunge and soo wont get to be at Essen SPIEL this year.

However as the biggest boardgame fair in the world and also where most new games are released, not going did'nt stop me getting excited.

I have been anticipating some of the games on my list for a long time, while others have only come to my attention recently. I put together first a long list and then a short list, by going through BGG's fantastic new preview tool.

Finally as SPIEL approached and having been able to get more information and see previews/reviews etc I have been able to get my most anticipated list of games down to a short shortlist of 10. All of which have me very interested but I (hopefully) do not intend to buy due to the two familiar problems I'm sure we have all run into in the hobby. Theese namely being, no more space on my shelves, no more money in my pocket! So i am aiming for 5-6, but we shall see how that turns out.

Below I share my thoughts on each game, what has me interested, if it is an instabuy or do i need to know more etc.

Enjoy!

Not a true game in itself, but an expansion for the new Revised Agricola (or the rest of the cards that should have been in the base game, if your feeling cynical).

This will be an instabuy for me, I have both the original and revised Agricola and will probably be buying all things Agricola in the future, as and when they come out (excluding the minis).

I figure that even if the rumoured deluxe version comes out next year with all the cars + expansions, I can still pick that up and move everything else on.

The reprint of what I consider one of Spoltters big 3 (the others being Indonesia and Food Chain Magnate for me).

I already have this game on preorder at a reasonable price, the problems with Splotter being you seem to pay a high price for the quality you actually recieve.

Having said this I am excited it will be in a normal sized box and there will be upgraded components (hopefully better than how Indonesia turned out), while I think I will be doign some upgrades of my own to turn the resource chits to wood.

Now the question will be, finding someone to play this with.

Not the type of game I usually go for, but I am lacking a good abstract and this game looks beautiful to boot.

I am still on the fence and would like to see this in person, but the combination of what looks like simple but deep strategic gameplay by Kiesling (hes got pedigre) + the look and feel of the game, could sway me.

I was first turned on to this game by the guys from Heavy Cardboard, who mentinoed it favourably having played it an GenCon. From there my interest has peaked and then cooled again.

It looks like quite a unique action selection mechanice, but another dry, medieval themed Euro, with okay art. (Which dont get me wrong I enjoy, but I already have many of theese games.(Do i need Florenza and Calimala)).

Having said this, it still made my top 10, so there is something keeping me invested. There is currently a severe lack of previews, reviews or run-throughs, so I will withold my verdict until then.

I have been interested in this game for the longest time. It is a theme that really appeals to me being somewhat of a history nerd and the type of games Cole Wherle and Sierra Madre games both produce and incredibly unique and interesting.

I had started to worry that the game might need a higher player count to reach its full potential and also the designers comments of it being from an older school of design. But my fears have been somewhat allayed by the mention that it does infact play well at 2.

Still right up there, not quite an instabuy. I would like to see some more videos, but definetly likely I will obtain this at some point.

And now for somethign completly different! Well perhaps not, again the theme really drew me to this one, especially as I am currently deep into litening to the History of Rome podcast.

Other things that kept me interested are that I lack any real group social deduction games (would you call it that?) and the publisher Moaideas has been putting out some reallt great stuff recently.

One of the less likely purchases, but I am interested to see a video of how this plays.

I have already got this game! It wasnt on my instabuy list, but it came up for a ridiculously good pre order price of £22 from a UK bookstore, so i jumped.

It arrived this week before Essen, and I now own 4 Martin Wallace games and am expecting two more (Brass Kickstarter). Do I need all theese games? I do find Wallace a very interesting designer of highly unique themeatic 'almost' Euros. No one designs quite like him.

I was not sure about London originally, did I need it, but Rahdo and Joel Eddy, both spoke for it being better than the original, and at that price i could'nt say no.

Ahh Uwe Rosenburg. I find it interesting how he gets away with designing s variations on the same mechanics and still makes popular games. This game apparently introduces shares.

I have some of his tighter heavy games (Agricola, Le Havre) and want Ora et Labora. I am not really interested in sandboxy monsters (Caverna, Arle and Odin). This looks closest to Glass Road, which I have not played. A bit shorter and lighter. I think a game of this ilk would fit nicely in my Rosenburg collection, I also like the theme/art.

Not 100% sold yet, but looks promising. Need to see more.

Another game that has been on my list to check out for a long time. Mac Gerts has great pedigree and the theme looks really appealing.

This should have been right up their, but the more I hear, the more I dont think this will be the game I want it to be. With the map board gone, it is seeming to look a more mechanical game of buying a placeing cards and doing set collection. I was hoping for competing to transport passengers and goods on the high seas.

There is a change I am totally wrong about this as I am yet to see any gameplay, so watch this space, but this has gone down in my estimation soo far.

I would buy this for being published by Capstone Games alone. They have really been smashing out the part with quality of product and depth of gameplay. Capsstone have played it safe soo far by reprinting well regarded out of print games and this looks to be no exception.

I have been interested in this game for a while. No two ways about it, Instabuy! (or that is, when it reaches the UK, it does seem to take a while).
