What I think:

This game (and I still like just the base game!) ticks a number of items for me- it uses dice (biggie!) and fits in a smaller space without being "small." Lots of choices and different ways to win- or lose.

The expansions help too. Making the game a bit different each time.

What I think:

This is a generic entry for all those Choose Your Own Adventure books and similar types. Fighting Fantasy fits in here as well as far as I'm concerned.

These have been a regular item for me this year. The CYOA books in particular- easy to pick up, easy to go through, and at least enough choices to keep me in a book for a while. And there's enough books of different types that I can go on just about any kind of adventure I like.

What I think:

This is a quick game to relax to. I have more plays than what the records show- I'll just pull out the cards and start arranging them, just to see how big I can make an area.

The advanced scoring rules add in more options when I want to think about more options.

What I think:

This is probably the first space game I have that isn't about ships fighting in space. And it has dice. And some amount of worker placement.

The expansion helps. Adding some or all of the various parts really allows me to customize the kind of game I play. The AI "Rogue" galaxies are easy to run- and I've run several at the same time. That's when I want a longer game.

Zombies. And dice. And expansions. I have almost everything for the game. On my wishlist is the solo-only challenge they made. Maybe someday.

Different characters and actual minis for zombies. It is nice watching the horde take shape and then hoping you get something to deal with them. There are times it doesn't work out and everyone dies. Such is a game. It is nice to cross that Town Line and win.

What I think:

Dice. And more dice. And a few cards.

This was my "intro" to the whole Pandemic craze. I'd looked at the board game and it just didn't grab me. But dice. Randomly pulled from a bag- so some amount of double randomness!

I mostly win- but I usually choose two characters I can win with. A few times things have gotten out of control, but not often. This is one of a handful of games that have a clear win-loss condition. That helps.

I have the expansion, and like TEG above, sometimes add in parts of the expansion just to change things up.

It's bowling. With cards. Have a deck of cards? Go bowling! Like Limes, it's an easy game to just play. And like Limes, it's a "beat your own score" kind of game.

I have bowling dice game too. I usually do better at that one.

New game. Newness? Maybe. But it is a memory game and that's a bit different. Has lots of expansions- one I have, the others are on the way. That gives me something to look forward to.

Will it be on the list next year? Maybe... But there's a game that should hit KS today (I'm typing this on Nov 11th) that may dominate next year...

Still a nice easy game to play. Limited choices each turn, and limited turns to play. A nice, finite end- but sometimes I want to just keep going...

I play with a modified Aaron enemy- and it works well for me. Ups the tension on decisions a bit, without killing it for me. I just wish it wasn't quite the table hog. But I can shrink it down and it works ok. And it's small so I can travel with it pretty easily.

When I can finally get my hands on the DICE version of this, the question will be if they both can be on next year's list, or just one...?

What I think:

It's a 9-card game. Needs a few dice and some cubes, and you're all set. It travels.

It's in my travel case, so it's ready to go with me when I head off. It fits in a small space. Dice play a small role and there are usually some decisions to make in each area. You see the same 7 cards over and over, but the arrangement changes. I often die- but not after a good bit of hacking and slashing.

This is a "new to me" game. It's the "newest" of the ones on this list- and one I looked forward to getting. Got a nice deal on it too...

It's quick. It NEEDS expansions. But each game has a slightly different feel- you can work towards some different goals to see if any of those pay off with higher points. It's random, so even the best laid plans can get thrown out the window...

Missed the KS for this game, so picked it up at retail. Got the KS for the Mint Delivery game, and picked up the promo expansion for Works while I was at it.

This is a quick worker placement game. Mostly inspired my Election Control game. All workers are the same- just what they can do changes. The solo challengers are various AI cards- I've only tackled one so far and enjoyed it. It is also a game in my travel kit.

Dice! Like TEG above, rolling the dice gives you the resources to play with. But unlike TEG, you have to share the resources with the "dummy" player. (Now there's a thought for a variant for TEG...)

Then you spend the resources by marking things on your paper. No moving tokens or cubes around. This makes it more portable and it takes up less space. Both good things. No, this is not in my travel kit, but like CoB: the Card Game, it may travel anyway.

Dice! But this isn't as good of a thing as the other games. These don't give you resources- they make or break your game. Sure, there are ways to mitigate the rolls, but that "bad" roll always seems to happen at a "bad" time...!

I picked up the Crime Wave expansion/redo and now I have more content that I know what to deal with. So that's good. I can still make the game more portable by using the original game box. And they've done a good job with integrating both games together if you want to go that route.

Another "smaller" version of a bigger game. This is for 1 or 2 players and is the sort of worker placement in absence type of game. You just pick the available action, and that's what you do. So no workers get put out and that means fewer parts.

It's portable, but not as portable as others. An expansion would be nice, but I haven't played enough to go through all the options.

What I think:

No dice- what was I thinking? This is mostly a resource-management game. You have three explorers to guide through the jungle to the City of Gold. You get two hikes- one during the day, one in the evening. You encounter several events, represented by cards- it's all cards!, and have to deal with them. When you start running out of resources, you start dying. All three die, game over.

Lots of choices- and you get some decisions of what to encounter and when. There is the chance that good planning and a bit of luck in the cards result in success. But death happens- a lot.

What I think:

A "classic" game. Limited turns and lots of ways to earn points. You have to earn money and buy your way up the social ladder. The higher you get, the more successful you are.

It takes up some space- but not horrid. Now that I've got a box to put all the bits in, setup takes less time. I'm still trying to figure out how to make the board and the rules more portable- then it could go with me from time to time. I'm not really sure how you could expand this game without turning it into another existing game.

Still a fun game. The more times I play, the quicker it gets. With the way the game sets up, you can essentially set up three games in a row, which is what I do. Oh, forgot to mention:

Dice!

Lots of nice colored dice. Like other games, these give you the resources for your turn. Building particular things gives you different dice, or even more dice. By the fourth (and final)round, there can be lots of lovely dice clattering around the table...!

And you get to see progress- your nation grows. I just wish there were some variations between the nations. Maybe the expansion (that's supposedly available today!!!!) will have that.

Dice! But here, the dice sort of dictate the actions- do you get a resource or do you get to use a building? Or can you sacrifice one to get the action you want?

It's a bit large and take a bit to set up. I have all the expansions, and they all fit in the base box. There's still space left. I just wish they did a better job of marking the expansions. And it has some neat cardboard bits that go with it.

I have more of the Pandemic mechanic down, and like the Cthulhu mythos... Kept waffling on this one until I saw enough of it on SGOYT lists. Then used some recent birthday money to get it.

Plays like I expected. And with enough variety, should be replayed for a while. At least until an expansion comes out for it. The main Pandemic game has had several expansions- I don't see why this one won't get one or two. At least some new investigators would change things up. And maybe some "underworld" type of place to throw into the mix...

Cards of Cthulhu

Dungeon Roll
Wipers Salient

D-Day Dice (free trial version)
Land 6
The Game
Manhattan Project: Chain Reaction

Lots of other games could have gotten on:

Bottom of the 9th
Deadball
Muses
Herbaceous
Harbour
Snowdonia
The Bloody Inn
Arkham Horror: The Card Game
SUPERHOT: The Card Game
Pocket Landship
Lots of Roll & Write games...
Twin Stars and lots of other dice games...

And even others... They just didn't hit the table that much- some of it was along the lines of "I'll play something easier/more familiar..." Some were just too new and I didn't really have a feel for them. Some of these may even show up on next year's list.

Thanks!
