It can be nice to have a spot of music to enhance one's gaming experience. There are a few soundtracks that have been particularly enjoyable to play in the background as we break out our games.

I realize that there are excellent services available, such as Melodice, which allow you to find music for almost any game. I have used such services and enjoyed them, but where they can fall short is that they fall short is in their flow. Because the playlists are crowdsourced, the songs will often jump from one style to another, and it can be jarring and can even harm the immersion.

Below are some of my favorites to listen to and some of the games with which we use them.

Please feel free to add your own favorites. I would love to know about them.

The Inception OST is not only a delightful listen, it is also the perfect backdrop to some of our favorite games. It is particularly good for euro games such as Castles of Burgundy, Agricola, and Troyes.

The Gladiator is an enjoyable, but the soundtrack is phenomenal. It is like a mixing pot of emotions that are subdued enough to bring just the right level of tension and drama to a game of Scythe. It also fits delightfully well with games such as Tikal and Near and Far.

The Pirates of the Caribbean movies all had compelling soundtracks (especially the second film). They all work very well to amplify the immersion into the theme of games like Pirate's Cove, Jamaica, and Islebound.

The Last of the Mohicans OST is my favorite soundtrack of all time, so maybe I am a bit biased towards its use in confrontational games such as Memoir '44 (my favorite game). For some reason, I also really enjoy it in the background of Shadows Over Camelot.

The Lawrence of Arabia soundtrack is a beautiful way to enhance the experience of playing games like Imhotep, Pyramids, Through the Desert, Egizia, Thebes, of Cleopatra and the Society of Architects.

This is absolutely the quintessential western soundtrack, so of course it would be best paired with games such as Great Western Trail, and especially Flick 'em Up.
