Playing board games once every week after dinner was something that I looked forward to during my childhood years. Been talking to my brother about getting back into board gaming, which both him and I are excited about.

Since a lot of games are recommended for more than 2 players, we were wondering who we can ask to play with us. My mom was never into board games like the rest of us, occasionally we can get her to play a couple card games with us, but that's about it.

Some family things came up, now my little cousin lives with us. We thought, "Hey why not introduce him to board games, and maybe he can be the the 3rd player we've been looking for!"

There's a small problem... He's only turning 3 this Christmas. It's going to be a long time till he will be able to play with us. But I thought I would still give it a try.

So here begins the journey of board gaming with the little one...

After browsing through many posts in "Gaming with Kids", I thought this would be a great one to start...

He LOVES it. He does some voice acting when he says "Go Away Monster".

He's not at the point where he tries to feel the pieces before pulling them out yet.

Overall I think this is a great game that teaches him the concept of taking turns.

This is also a game that was recommended highly by the people.

He LOVES it. He is still trying to understand why he needs to turn the item over even though he sees it on my shopping list.

He does get a little upset if he loses too many games in a row, so for now I'm letting him win once in a while to keep his chin up.

Overall I think this is a great game that teaches him the concept of "you don't always win when you play".

This is a game that he "spotted" on my bookshelves and asked if he can play it with me.

He LIKES it. Since this is the original version, he has a little trouble naming the objects, so right now we play a modified rule.

Modified rule: He doesn't have to shout out the object, instead he can just point at the object. Also, I give him a 10 second head start; I don't flip over my card till I count to 10 in my head. This way he has a higher chance of getting the card before me.

He's gotten pretty good at it now, even beating me sometimes with the modified rule.

Overall I was surprised that he liked the game since the suggested age 7+. I think this is a great game to help him with "pattern recognition". I might look into other "spot it" with a theme that he's interested in.

My brother said that the kids he works with in the hospital really like this game, so he got it for him.

He LIKES it. Since the whole transferring the "elements" between test-tubes is hard for him right now, we play with another modified rule.

Modified rule: He puts all the "elements" in a small bowl. When a new card is drawn, he will then try to put the "elements" into the test-tubes accordingly. I play with the original rule.

He's gotten pretty good at it, occasionally he will want to do it the "normal" way and make a big mess.

Overall I think this game is great for "hand-eye coordination".

First game of the year, he just got back to the state from his family vacation. This was a gift given to him from his aunt.

He LIKES it. This game is a speed game so I'll probably have to just let him win couple times before we started playing to official rule.

He still has trouble when he doesn't win, so it's still a work in progress. Right now we have this rule that if he starts getting upset because he's losing then we just stop playing and put the game away till he's ready to play again. We will see if this is a good solution to the problem when we play more games.

Overall I think this game is easy for him besides the speed part, we will see how it stacks up against the other games in the long run.
