So let's just start this new year later...!

First entry- this year 100x1 challenge. I've successfully done the past 2 years, and now it's time to do it again.

My entry: Item for Geeklist "Explore Diversity 4 - 100 x 1 Challenge 2018 Geeklist"

Didn't do much today- it got COLD outside!

Also linking another challenge for the year- 18 unplayed games! Did my list last year (barely!) and hope to do better this year.

I've seen folks post plays of games they just got- if I do that then things will get easier as I have "new" to me games that I haven't played yet- actually have a whole stack of them behind me...!

Here's my item: Item for Geeklist "18 Unplayed in 2018"

And I'll try not to double-dip on the lists. All that means is that I have to play the games more than once!

Starting on the stack of new to me games. this looks like the lightest and easiest of the bunch. It's set up and ready to go- rules read and all. Did watch a review/video as well. I've done two other States of Siege games, so as long as I keep track of things, it should be fine.

And I'll start in on the list of unplayed games- 229 by one count. A number of PnP games that I "own" but just haven't built. I'll need to fix that. Oh, and get back to putting the floor down. But can't do that until my back gets to feeling better... soblue

Played this while waiting on my daughter to get her teeth cleaned. My iPhone has a dying battery, so I needed something analog to do (other than look at magazines that don't interest me) while waiting. And it's been a while since I've played, so it was time to go again.

Scored 16. Not a good score. Several of the cards that generate points were all bunched together. And I could never get or hold the right resources to either flip or rotate them. That means I left a lot of points behind....

Speaking of points, the minimester got going- yesterday actually. And I had to the first grading of 2018 today. It did not go well for some. A number of students just got old answers- and quickly lost credit since those answers aren't good any more. Others just didn't follow the directions at all. And a number did just fine.

(Yes, behind again!!!!)

Submitted images for the gallery for the newest Animal Crossing game. Got a bit of for it, and nominated the image as the representative image. Not hard, but still not ideal.

I haven't checked just yet, but I'm averaging maybe just over an hour of play a day on this game. 10 min here, another 15 there... I'm probably 50 hours in since I got it around Thanksgiving. Won't be too much longer until I've tipped the 100+ hour scale on this one too... (to go with Animal Crossing on the DS and on the Wii...)

No idea about the game.

We have a gas oven. It doesn't work... It'll be next Tuesday before it might get fixed...

BUT... my wife used her Christmas cash to get the new "in" device for the kitchen... a pressure cooker. Specifically, this one:

https://www.cosori.com/premium-6qt-cp016-pc-overview/

Made ribs in it tonight. Not perfect, but a LOT less work than trying to do them other ways. Could have been seasoned more... But hey, not bad for first use by first time users...

I got this from MassDrop a while back. As in probably over a year while back.

And it finally hit the table tonight. Finally. Well, spilled over the table is more like it...

You can see it hangs over by a good 6 inches... And having the well-padded mat I have helps keep it in place- no sliding around.

The game is okay- I wasn't as wowed as I would have liked. Need some more help on the rules- only watched one video. It's not likely to hit the table again anytime soon- just no room.

But it is off the unplayed list. Which I need to print out...

So this happened...

I'm an official Sock Puppet of the 1 Player Guild.

I'm honored. I'm flattered. I hope I do a good job.

Oh, it's also the first day back at work. I have meetings all week. And finishing the winter minimester classes. And getting my Spring classes ready to go. And the other odd jobs that come up...

At least next Monday is a holiday for us...

(Yes, if you look at the day/time, I am currently ignoring the National Championship game. The SEC has this one in the bag...!)

Found this from Steve Jackson Games...

No idea about the game.

Work is back in session- we came back on Monday, and today is when all the meetings and majority of time-wasting stuff happens. Just got to get through it.

And in comparison, it's really not that bad. There are worse things I could be doing. And there are better things too...!

(So now I see the game is about coffee- that fits too...)

Games keep popping up on this thread- it's a contest I entered last year. I toyed with an idea for this year, but with work, I just haven't had an ounce of time to focus on it.

I'll play a few games. Maybe even play a lot of games. And if my schedule clears, maybe even enter a game.

Played this tonight. Fun game. Messed up rules, but it's the first game. Like most things, you can tell me & show me the rules, but it takes me actually DOING it to set the rules.

And to really set them, I should play another time or two. And I just might. Especially to see how setup/teardown goes. I wonder if one of those plastic sorter (Plano?) boxes would fit? I need to take some measurements...

No idea about the game...

It's Friday. The building I'm in had a leak last week (when no one was around) and whatever leaked (not sure exactly what) soaked carpets and walls.

And it STINKS!!!!! It has stunk all week long. My office is on the 2nd floor- it is less noticeable where I am.

We start classes next Tuesday. Everyone is hoping the stink goes away- but with cold weather coming, no one is thinking it will go away...

(Yes, I know I'm actually typing this ON the Tuesday... just go with it...)

And here's one of those games from the 9-card contest. A tiny Pandemic game. I've got rules & cards printed- and I've spent a bit of time organizing all the little play bits I have around. Picked up some coins that go with Scythe- but I don't own the game. The coins are really neat and will come in handy with several games.

Let's just hope things don't change too much until I can get it played....

A cold front is on the way- many of us are betting that tomorrow is canceled as well. That's ok, I teach online and my class will start anyway. We started the Fall semester late due to Hurricane Harvey, why not start the Spring late too?

A bit late, but I sent my Sock Puppet on to the next person. He's not in the Guild a lot, but he's on the monthly geeklists. Great pictures, great info on the games he plays. Lots of people (including me) blame him for their many game purchases.

And that was quite a thing- posted it on Facebook & Twitter when I got it, and had almost zero notices. That's okay- it was a busy time for most of the folks I work with. Only my wife asked me about it. I was a bit surprised by that.

That's okay- I was at least recognized by people that matter. And I'll keep trying to do my part in recognizing them too... It's amazing how close one can "feel" to a bunch of people I've never met- nor even seen.

Oh- and school was cancelled. Too much snow/ice on the roads. And by too much I mean you might be able to see some...

It's still cold out- parts of Texas are colder than parts of Alaska... That doesn't happen very often...

Tomorrow will be a real back to work day...and more physical therapy for my neck...

No idea about the game. But it's time for more physical therapy for my bum left shoulder. Bad posture. I've been several times already, and it is making a difference. But it will take a while to undo several decades of poor posture.

Got several more exercises to do this time. Pretty soon, it's going to take 1/2 my day just for these exercises. Assuming my shoulder doesn't give out first...

Got another one off of the unplayed list. It's just a glorified Rock/Paper/Scissors game. No skill at all. Not even betting skill- everyone with chips antes one. I'm sure you could make side bets and stuff like that. Why not turn the dice into a version of Yahtzee? I'm sure someone has done that.

It was Friday afternoon meetings at work. I'll be glad when I can get away from some of this...At least I hope I can...

My wife was under the weather today, so I had plenty of time on my hands. And that meant playing something. Fallout? Maybe.

But this game came up. It's on my unplayed list, and I want to get a good start on those titles. But I had to build it first.

I had most of the sheets printed out. I say most because as I was going through the build list, I was missing some pages. And I'd printed everything on just letter paper- no card stock.

Well, I'll just make sure I have the right files and print everything again. So I did.

It took most of the day to build. Maybe I can play tomorrow.

This launched on KS a few days ago. Has a smaller PnP- so I built and played that. I did play Dungeon of D today- not sure I'm bowled over by it.

I have not jumped on the TEZ bandwagon yet. It does look pretty good- and the two games I played seemed OK. But there are almost too many things to keep track of. I'm letting the game sit a bit, and I hope to go back to it later this week or next and try again. I'll probably end up getting it anyway...

Played another go of this- lost in Room 3 of the Station. It's still a fun game- I need to get the mechanics down more.

I'm still waiting on the rest of my pledge. I got the game early as part of the pledge, now I'm just waiting on the rest of the stuff. Eventhough the company says things are going smoothly, I was a bit left behind on the initial shipment, and I feel it's the same way this time. I'll get it, just later than normal. Every KS has some folks who slip through the cracks. I'm one of those for this KS. I'm confident I'll get what I pledged for- just later than it should be.

No need for me to back another of this company's KS. They won't miss me- their other games (and games I'm sure they have coming) have such a great following that they'll be fine.

Had a Sons of the American Revolution meeting tonight. Big turnout- biggest I've ever seen. Settling down took a bit, as did the dinner. So I needed something short and easy to play.

Shuffle the herb cards and deal two sets. Two games ready to go. Didn't do too bad, but left room for improvement... Might really try to get my wife to play this...

Spent part of the day being ill- sore throat and stuffiness. So I headed home at lunch. Got a conference to go to the next couple of days, so I need to make sure I'm up for it.

I'm still wrestling with an idea for a lobbying game. And this contest may be the way to go. A regular deck of cards and two jokers. Nothing really solid yet, but travel the next couple of days may make it happen.

Need to make it thematic- give players a reason to push cards around...

Headed off to Sam Houston for the annual Digital Education Summit. The keynote talked a lot about 'metacognition.' I think it's basically the new 'in word' for what us old-timers would call 'critical thinking.'

But it was useful to see some of his examples and get a few of his handouts. It may at least cause me to redo some of the prompts and other cues my students see in class.
