Like the title says, I'm going to click on Browse and Random Game (up in the blue, top header) everyday and see what I get.

I was bored today and looking around BGG and I was clicking on things I've never seen or tried before. I've found some pretty cool geeklists and groups in the past doing that. So, Now I'm starting a (public) geeklist of my own of a Random Game that BGG gives me. Probably silly, but might be fun. Might lead to some fun discussions.

First one is Ratz-Fatz. Haha. Cute. I actually bought something like this one for my grandson at the HABA booth at Origins this year. Loco Lingo Fastgrasp is the one I have. He just turned 3 this month, so I'm looking forward to seeing how he does with it.

Today's game is not one that I'm familiar with, but that is not a big surprise. I'm guessing that a lot of the ones that are going to come up will be ones that I won't know. Kinda why I'm doing this little experiment.

Secondly, it's a war game and that's not really the type of game that I like. Although, I might try it, if my husband would enjoy it. He loves the WWII era. If he would have any interest in playing something like this, I might even give it a go. However, it's also 120-900 minutes long. I like longish games, but he would never sit through something this long. Two hours is his max. Even if he is enjoying the game, if it hits two hours then he starts to kinda complain. Not a lot, but I can tell he wants to be done.

I enjoy more complex games than my husband, but even this one is out of my comfort zone.

I don't know, should I start rating these? Today's game would get a pass from me. I'd probably not even pick it up if I was in a game shop. A thumbsdown might not be appropriate since I haven't even played that game. So maybe a shake.

This is interesting. I have heard of Suburbia. However, today's random game is from 2001, doesn't list a designer, has only 4 comments, but is rated 7.5. It looks like a roll and move game.

Here's a little of the overview: Suburbia is a party game in which players have to complete activities in each of the eight catagories in order to successfully move their pawn around the board.

Sounds a little like some Cranium games where you work in teams to complete activities. Other than the board looking like you are moving through a town, don't know why it has the name Suburbia. You are drawing, answering trivia, and doing charades. Nothing about that says city to me. I looked up Cranium and it's older, but the artwork and pieces look better than this Suburbia. My family liked Cranium, I'm wondering if we would have tried this one out if we had seen it and not Cranium back then.

So, today I do get a game that I have heard of, but it's not the game I know. It's not even the predecessor of the Suburbia game most people know.

I don't know what to do with today's rating. It's close enough to Cranium that the family probably would have enjoyed it. But if we saw both games on the shelf together, we would have bought Cranium. Maybe the rating thing is not going to work with this list. I need a sideways thumb.

Happy New Year's Eve.

Today's game is Collectable Monsters! (2004) It's a card game and is another one I haven't heard of and it looks like not many other people have either. It only has 4 ratings and one comment. (Wondering now if the whole list is going to be this way.) This one has two images. The monsters on the cards look a little like Pokemon.

This one gets a shake. I'd probably pass on playing this one. My wallet is still safe.

Today's random game is a newer one from 2011 and it actually has a BGG ranking of 6,760. I don't think any of the others had a ranking. I've kinda heard of this one, but only because it was a movie. This one will get a pass from me as well. It looks like it plays in 90 minutes, but war games are not my thing.

UPdate: I had to go check, and the only other game to have a ranking was the other war game:
Toppling the Reich: The Battles for the Westwall. It's ranking was 12,243. At least I know now that I will be getting some ranked games in the random picks. Let's see how long it takes to get one in the top....1,000. I was going to say 100, but with a database with over 90,000 entries let's go with a wider selection option.

Today's game is from 2007. (It's still shocking to me that that is 10 years ago.) It looks like a cute Thomas the Train game that my 3 year old grandson would like, but based on the rating 3.6 and the few comments it looks like we will never know. Sounds like it was not made well and broke quickly and was hard to turn on. This is the first one of these random games that had possibility of being one I would buy. However, in the 10 years that have past since it came out, I'm sure I can find a better one for my grandson. Especially since playing PJ Masks and Hotwheels cars is his favorite thing to do at the moment.

I don't think it is a game that appeals to me. Something I've learned about myself, game wise, is that I'm not a big card game fan. I like a few, but I'd much rather play a board game. I didn't see enough that would get me to try out the game even with the praise from the Dice Tower.

This one is hilarious. From 1987, no ranking, one rating (5.0). Here's what is says, "Players move around a map of the state of Georgia leaning fun historical facts about the state while racing to visit eight locations first." This sounds bad. Draw a card to see the location you need to travel to, roll the dice to try to get there, when you do put a chip on your peach tree. Rinse, repeat 8 times. Am I ever going to get a good game, or one I've heard of? soblue

Today's game took 3 tries. The first two games were self-published games without any images or much info, so I made a rule that the games have to have a publisher. On the third try I got Maelstrom.

Ranking: 3,741, Rating: 6.6, Year: 2001
It's from Fantasy Flight Games and has an alternate name of Vortex which had a collectible format.

It's a fantasy magic battling game with hex tiles. So, another war game. Someone compared it to Summoner Wars and that wasn't a game I enjoyed, so this games gets a pass from me, but it this is the first game in my random picks with a somewhat big fan base where some gave it a rating of 10.

The game looks really cute. It's bright colors makes it seem like a kids game, but after watching the Dice Tower review and reading the comments of users that own the game, there seems to be more to it than meets the eye. Some player powers are too powerful, but this could be a good game to introduce kids to programming games.

This is one I would play and may be my favorite random game so far.

Capitani di Ventura is one of the oldest wargames published in Italy by a mythic Alma Games (1963). The simple mechanism of the game made it a quick and funny game with strategy and tactics great aspiration. The game is also a concentrate of diplomacy and tracery with a minimal economic system.

I'd play it. I was on a kick awhile ago to own games set in Italy. I have Cinque Terre, Murano, Downfall of Pompeii, Firenze, The Palaces of Carrara, Rialto, Roma, Trajan and Ponte Vecchio to name a few.

First off. I love the box.

This game is from 2017, has a ranking of 6,044 and rating of 7.1.
It's a fast paced party word game. Looks like a little bit of Codenames and Scattagories. There are 4 subjects and each subject has a letter associated with it. So it looks like that if the subject is FOOD and the letter is A, you need to come up with a word for food that has the letter A as the first letter, then another word with A in the second letter and then another word with A as the 3 letter and then another word with A in any position, I think. I'm not sure about that last column. There is a BoardGame Geek video that show a pretty good overview of the game.

Looks fun. You have 15 second rounds to come up with the words, so also could be hard if timers make you nervous and if you are not a word game person. I'd play it. Not sure how readily available it is in the US though.

Didn't know if I should include this game or not. It's not ranked, has no ratings and only 2 users own the game. But, it's looks cute. Love the skillet. It's a Dexterity game designed around flipping pancakes. Probably only available through Ebay and not worth Ebay prices to get it just because it looks cool. It was amusing to see.

The other game I got was The Wooly Ladder from Haba (2009). It was also amusing to see but, only 3 users owned that game. It's a racing game for little kids. I'd play it with my grandson if he wanted to play. I loved the box.
, but other than looking cute, there wasn't much to talk about so I clicked to find another game. Since I got the above game, I'm just including them both together in this entry.

Not sure what I wanted this list to be. I guess I thought I'd be finding some games I might want to buy. So far, my wallet has been safe. I've found more game to play with my grandson, I think, than I've found for myself. laugh So, I'll keep going for awhile and see how this involves. The fun factor might just be seeing what's out there.

This says, it's from 2017, but based on comments it looks like it just came out in December of 2017. I like the idea of this game. Seems like it would be fun at a party as one of those activity games like Concept with players being able to join and drop out easily. Wish there were more cards that came with the game. The technology of it is amazing, but it is expensive. $70 on Amazon and almost $30 for each pack of new cards/songs (that's $2 per card).

Looks fun. I'd play. And this one is the newest of the random draws and the maybe the most interesting so far.

Haha. Wish I saw this when my kids were young. We never really drew pictures. We made mazes.

I was away at the Ground Hog Day Convention in Hudson, OH, so I missed a few days posting here. This was my first mini convention. It was a good time. Organizers did a nice job. Now back to a random game...

The rating for today's game is 6.7 with 154 people owning the game. There isn't much information. Looks to be a 2 player, card game set in Egypt. One of the comments compared it to Magic the Gathering. Sample cards look nice, but not a game for me.
