Every year I enjoy very much the top 100 solo games list, I participate by voting, by commenting, I rout for my favourite games (Fields of Fire), and in general I take some time with it.

And one of the things I see every year are wonderful games that I own that I don't play enough, or games I didn't give a fair try, or games that are gathering dust in my collection.

In previous years I even did an analysis of the top 100, how many where uniquely solo, how many where euros, etc... unfortunately, life has stopped me from doing that.

I have also always wanted to try one of this challenges, but I never know what to choose for 10 games played, and I didn't have a dedicated space for games until last year...

Add all this together and you get the gist of where I am going (also the title is quite a spoiler) I am going to try to play all the games that I own in the top 200 solo games, i will post here the date and my opinion on the game.

As of this day (I might end up buying more games...) the challenge is a total of 77 games, not including games I own on the phone). Some of them I am counting that I will receive them as I have them ordered in kickstarter, some of them I am not sure they are with me in Luxembourg. So lets see how it goes.

Feel free to comment.

And so we start.

Date: ended on 28 december 2017.

Played with Torvak and with most of the units and cards from the expansion tossed in together.

Final score 135 victory.

Wonderful game when things click it is a wonderful gem that keeps you hooked to your seat with the feeling of just one more turn... and 2 hours later you are still at it.

My main complaint with it is that I don't feel the adventure or fantasy. I have to collect cards to get over challenges, I am not going deeper into an epic adventure.

Rating... probably a 9/10

Played the 30th December 2017.

Nordic player against Polania autometta.

A defeat for me in my first ever solo game, second in total. The jury is very much out on this one, I need more plays and get the rules down better. Currently a 7/10

Played on January 4, 2018 with the interplanetary cinematics corporations. I lost, no, I LOST big.

I enjoy this game it is fun, it is quick, I like the tactile bits. I really enjoy this game. But i don’t think it’s top 10 material. With the first two I might disagree with the position but I see why they are there, but this one...I don’t see it. Well, maybe I do, people are adding the multiplayer value to their analysis. And this game is so much better multiplayer.

Played on the 6th of January the Cannibals scenario.

This game is awesome, the way you immerse yourself in what is happening, trying to survive, the lack of food, the attacks from the cannibals, everything.

The fun part of my game was that I kept getting difficulties getting food. 2 food sources next to my settlement were exhausted and a third one received a -1 man symbol.

It is stories like that that create the game. I have still to play scenarios 6 to 9 and the Beagle campaign. The content is just awesome. Plus I have yet to try most of the mini expansions (extra characters, extra helpers, beach mini expansion, etc...)

For me better as a solo game than Terraforming Mars and Scythe.

This is an extraordinary solo experience. The fact that you are basically playing an RPG campaign where your actions have consequences into the future is not only cool, it makes the game so much replayable. Should I try to kill the monster? Should I run away?

Also, the deck building is right down my alley. I never played Magic so I never learnt to create decks, I have learnt through deckbuilders like Dominion and one LCG (lord of the rings, more on that later). So a very light deck builder where the options are there but limited (or where preconstructed decks are available from the publisher) is good for me. As a matter of fact I played LOTR LCG similarly, I would have a deck and just update one or two cards every time I opened a new adventure.

What I am not sure is on the comparison with LOTR. I prefer fantasy to horror, and the simplicity of LOTR is also to be commended. You lose the RPG feeling but gain in readiness and simplicity. Also, although I am not much of a deckbuilder I have learnt with this game and has a soft spot.

More on the next game on the list.

The problem with LOTR LCG is also it’s great strength in a way. It is basically a pure deck building. The gameplay is simple to remember and come back with not many exceptions to remember. The excitement is on creating a new deck to beat a particular challenge, the fun is in deckbuilding. And I am not much into deckbuilding.

If you compare it with its sibling (AH LCG), I wouldn’t mind using a pre created deck with AH but would be a fun killer for LOTR.

I enjoy this game but it is going a little bit downwards.
