Did you make a great trade? Got something good through a Math Trade? Got some gifts or items received for free (a one way trade, found in your parent's closet, from dumpster diving, left outside on the curb, friend/relative gave it to you, etc)
Previous years trade lists: The Thrift Guild Trades Made and Gifts Received List 2017
Our GeekGuild: Please mind the stacks of games. Don't mention the musty smell and try not to sneeze. The Ancient and Loyal Order of Thrifters thanks you.

Merry Christmas to me, I guess. My in-laws came with a suitcase full of my husband's childhood board games, and a crokinole board.
Before you get as excited as I was... it's one of those 100-games-in-one things, with a confusing mish-mash of board games on one side, and crokinole on the other. It's made of something half-way between cardboard and pressboard, and the plastic pegs are removable. Oh, and instead of wooden discs it has plastic rings.
Given that the surface is in OK shape I'm wondering if I should pick up discs for it. The rings just don't have the right heft.
Read on for the rest of the suitcase full...

Going in order from oldest to newest, sorta. In decent shape.

From the box: "Ratings solution: If you take a week, you're an average joe. Give it up, and you're just a schmoe."
Clearly, marketers have since realized that insulting the buyers' intelligence is a bad move.

Because my children don't have enough noisy toys to have driven me completely insane yet.
Can't find the right edition--my guess is 1950s or 60s.

My in-laws were pleased this was the only duplicate from our collection. Maybe that's because I would never have bought any of these except one.
Since the board is different we're keeping it anyway.

Sort of tri-omino-ish. Good for my son's math skills.

Haven't tried this one yet. Cardboard peg board... not sure how it'll hold up.

I had this as a kid, and liked it.
I'm trying to remind myself that my husband feels a similar nostalgia for all the games we got.

This one is so well-played that now I'm going to look for it in the thrift stores just to replace the box, board and cards.
I also had this one as a kid.

This one is almost fun; whenever "Garfield changes his mind" the rules for how you move change. And you can get bonuses with lasagna cards.
I don't remember Garfield being particularly capricious, but never mind.

Wow, gamer families of the 80s had great teeth.

The only one in the entire lot I would have picked up at a thrift store. Or even off a curb. Well, I'd pick up a different version of crokinole if it was playable.
Luckily this one is complete and in great shape.

Sing it with me...
Board gaaaaaaaaaammmmmessss roastiiiiiiiiiing on an open fiiiiiiiiiiire!
My kids claim to like this but have already house-ruled a game-ending condition. Even my 5yo knows that a game with no ending isn't an actual game.
Side note: I didn't even know there was a Christian version of this game. Gameplay aside, it was thoughtful of them to include a set of non-religious cards as well.

and I had each managed to stash a few things that each other had expressed interest in, so we settled on Saturday night to swap a small stack of thrifted goodies. Lucky for me my wife was out with her friends and I was on child patrol, so although I was getting games out of the house, I was also bringing some back in, a wash as far as the pile goes.
Despite a small delay due to the basketball game Dom was announcing going to double OT, we met up. In his car went Garfield, Battle-Cry, Dutch Blitz, Bazaar, and Tsuro.
Headed home with me were Bohnanza, Risk: Plants vs. Zombies, Risk 2210 A.D., Tony & Tino, and Jurassic Park III: Island Survival Game.
Everything headed Dom's way was complete (well, Bazaar might be missing a token or two not sure what the 'official' count should be but it is enough to play). If anything turns up missing Dom please let me know, I double checked them before they went out.
As for mine, I think I am most excited about Bohnanza, one of those games that I just saw too often on the thrift list and got tired of waiting to find my own.
Dominic did tell me a couple games were short a few tokens. Plants vs. Zombies is short two tokens, no big deal, but I posted to the parts list to see if they'll turn up. Tony & Tino was missing 6 of the money tiles. Also figured I could just proxy these easily, however I looked and found a listing on the 2012 (!) Spare Parts list and sent a geekmail just to see. Less than 15 minutes later, those parts are on their way!

A few days ago, my wife received a text from someone we know from church. She had spotted a game on the "Free" table at their homeschool co-op, and knew we liked games, so she asked if we were interested. She knows nothing about games, so she doesn't know good from bad. When my wife mentioned to me about this and saying the game was "Whitechapel", I quickly said YES! Got the game handed over to me the next day, inventoried it, and everything is there. The rule book has a page falling out, but that's easily ignored.
