I was comparing this game with Raiders of the North Sea. Both are worker placement, both are viking themed. Up until the expansion for Champions of Midgard, I would have picked Raiders, but with the expansions, Champions of Midgard is just a wonderful worker placement viking age game of building armies and going out into the wilderness and killing the bad things.
This re-release by AEG of a cooperative game set on a space ship is just fun. Its tense without using a timer, the artwork is interesting, and the asymmetrical characters do a good job of eliminating the issue of alpha gamers.
A really nice merger of RPG and Board Game. It does have some issues, like a lack of complete miniatures, but the fundamentals are sound. I think Board Gamers don't like it because its rules are written more like an RPG
