It was Uwe Rosenberg’s first big success after designing four games. He published this 2-7 player card game while he was a student at Dortmund. Fifteen expansions or variants of this game have been published. Its unusual mechanic is that once cards enter a player’s hand, the card order cannot be changed.

HINT:

The game title sounds the same as a popular American TV western from the 1960s with Adam, Hoss, and Little Joe.

Currently, this is the highest ranked game on BGG published before 1990. It was out of print for a long time, was reprinted, and is currently out of stock. You are sure to use deductive logic with this 1-8 player cooperative game, which has no board, no cards, and no playing pieces, but only several booklets, a map, and old newspapers.

This wildly popular card game from the 1990s is patented. Here is an excerpt from the patent describing the game’s famous “tap” mechanic:

“(b) bringing into play one or more of the available game components [cards] by: (i) selecting the game components; and (ii) designating these game components by rotating the components [by 90 degees] from an original orientation to a second orientation"

This party game from the 1960s consists of just one component thrown from player to player like a hot potato until it “blows up.” The player holding the component is eliminated from play, and play continues until just one player temains, who wins. At the time it was released, this game was popular, but eventually it bombed and went out of print.

HINT:
Spoiler (click to reveal)
The component is a large black sphere that ticks.

This abstract game of ancient Chinese origin has a simple rule-set but boasts a staggering degree of depth. In 2017, a computer program from DeepMind beat Ke Jie, the number-one ranked player. This game is the subject of documentaries, at least one movie, an annual international tournament, and many, many books. Within the past three years, new games pushed this game out of the BGG top 100.

HINT:
