Looked like we would be about 7 then perhaps only 2 but then we were 4 and eventually 5 - T101 James, Paul, Elizabethan Chris, Gordon and New** James.

** I obviously need to do better than this.

This played way differently with 4 than 3 - significantly less opportunities for points and therefore increases the importance of poverty. The game also ran faster through the deck - not sure whether that is a facet of 4-player or whether there was more drawing from the deck than from the board - James in particular drew a lot from the deck.

Chris was cash rich, Paul kept his city small, I simply had no money for the middle part of the game, and James whinged incessantly about the number of Pauper cards he drew then manged to turn them all into points and pounds and won.

Don't have the scores but I think the order was

James
Chris
Paul
Gordon

Other oddities - no one scored any points off 'Underground' cards, in fact I don't think any were built and there was still loads of boroughs left at the end.

Having arrived late and spectating the last two thirds of London we let the Europhiles play with their root vegetables and had a go at Neuroshima Hex.

It is an abstract combat game, set in the Neuroshima 'verse' which Portal games has used to set a number of it's games, but the armies are nicely asynchronous and I thought probably conveyed enough 'theme' to satisfy James's taste. Unfortunately not as he found it too abstract

It still delivered a close tense battle where most of the 'battle' tiles appeared in the early game making for a crowded board towards the end.

My 'Hegemony' army snuck it by 1 point from his 'New Yorkers'.

After umming and arrring about what we could fit into the time left, we went for some vegetable farming.

I've only played this once before multiplayer with Paul on Yucata, so was nice to play this "in real life".

I got off to a good start on the second turn getting a good two pack which meant I could complete 2 casual customers and go up 3 steps on the Path of Prosperity. Unfortunately, this is where i stalled out and struggled to get a good engine going for regular customers until later in the game.

Paul was collecting casual customers like a trendy hipster pop up restaurant, managing to fulfil a few high cost and catch me.

James took a load and an early extra field, which meant he could take three regular customers and with some cheeky salesmanship stop them from fining him when he din't deliver for a turn. This started a good money making empire which meant he started pumping out the points.

I really enjoyed the card play in this. Timing is key to getting what you want while not leaving good stuff for you opponents.

Scores at the end of the game:

James 18
Chris 17
Paul 16
