For everyone who's tried contacting me and has been wondering about O-HC IV, I'm (once again) very sorry for not being more responsive. We now have a date, April 6 - 9May 18 - 20, 2018 and a Facebook Event, https://www.facebook.com/events/328831757605203/. Epic Loot - Springfield, has again committed to hosting O-HC IV and is again offering pre-registration discounts until May 14 ($8 for a full weekend pass and $4 for a one-day pass).

Epic Loot is also offering a 20% discount to all attendees with an O-HC badge.

Ohio Heavy Con is designed as a local/regional convention where people will have the chance to play heavy games. What is a heavy game? For this convention, "heavy" means any game that's hard to get played at a random game night. Some of the longer games that have been played at previous O-HC's include Splotter games, 18XX, Space Empires, High Frontier, Triumph and Tragedy, Churchill, Die Macher, Fire in the Lake, Caverna, Colonists, Arkwright, Arkham Horror, and a Battlestar Galactica campaign.

Administrivia

Location:
http://epiclootgames.com/index.html?location=1475.

Times:
Friday, 05/18: 10 am - 1 am (tournament includes games started after 5 pm)
Saturday 05/19: 9 am - 1 am
Sunday 05/20: 9 am - 9 pm (tournament includes games completed by 2 pm)
There will be badges since the location is in a mall and we'll be there after closing. Epic Loot suggests parking in the back of the mall to make it easier to enter and exit while the mall is closed.

Cost:
$10 for the weekend. $5 for one day.
Preregistration (through May 14): $8 for the weekend, $4 for the day.
Covers the space and a plaque for the tournament winner. Please paypal to jsokolica@yahoo.com.

Pre-registration is strongly requested so we can confirm any additional space requirements.

Food:
Not included. The location is in a mall so mall food will be available for most of the time. There are also restaurants in the area if people want something healthier.

Sleeping Arrangements:
I know some people have stayed in hotels during previous Ohio Heavy-Cons. If people have any recommendations, feel free to post them.

Tournament:
This is a "bragging rights" tournament. The formula for calculating scores is available if people want to know it but is based on number of players, play time, and relative finishing place (1st, 2nd, 3rd, etc.)

Here's how it works:

*Add an item containing the game you own and want to play, and include specifics, such as the number of players, expected play time, level of experience, and so on
*Keep track of folks who've agreed to play in your game entry, so we can all see if a game is full. It's TOTALLY OK to plan multiple sessions if you're so inclined
*Work with your players to coordinate a time and place for your game. This time we're going to ask people to commit to a date/time two weeks before the event so that people can finalize schedules and our host can plan table set up.

Experience/Game Time
*As a game organizer, you're welcome to require a certain level of experience.
*As a game player, please include whether or not you've played the game before and approximately how long ago the last time was.
*Everyone, if the rules are available online, please do a rules refresh prior to the game
*Be aware that games at conventions generally take a bit longer. Unless it's the first game of the Con, lack of sleep, other games running over, different interpretation of rules, etc. often make the games run long. Organizers, please include a little time for this when you're describing the game. Players, take this into account when committing to play games.

Who's copy?
*Do not post an entry for a game unless you own or have guaranteed access to a copy
*If you don't have a copy, but would like to play a specific game, post a comment on the bottom of the list. Chances are good someone going to the con owns the game and *may* be willing to share it out even if they're not playing in the game.

Schedule
There will be a Google Doc available in the future.

Want to get at least one play, two would be great. Not too hard to learn, it plays similar to the other COIN games. My schedule is open, Saturday or Sunday morning would be best. 4 players is ideal, though there are bot scripts for Non-player factions.

So far, I've only ever played this game with either:
a) 2 players, for all 4 ages, or
b) 3 or 4 players, but only 2 ages

I'd really like to get an epic playthrough, with 3 or 4 players, for all 4 ages! I'm happy to teach, but please be prepared for a 6-8 hour game, depending on how many players, and prior experience.

As for time slot, I'd like to get this one out of the way early, so I'd suggest Friday at 11am - but, if anyone wants to play, and can't make it until Saturday, please post, and we'll do it Saturday, instead.

Day/Time: tbd

If you like trading games, this is the game for you!

Up to NINE players play asymmetrical alien races, negotiating for the resources they need to make their economies run. Interestingly, the player count doesn't have a huge impact on play time, since there are no player turns - though, trading rounds may take a little longer for everyone to feel like they got to explore all their opportunities - so, don't feel too intimidated to play even with 9 players!

My plays have always been 2 - 4 players and I'd love to try this with more. I'm not sure if I've got the courage to try 7 players, but I'd be curious. I've got both expansions (though I have yet to play with Wind Gambit).

3 - 7(?) players
2 - 4 hours (My 2 - 4 player games have never gone over 3 hours; I'd say 30 - 45 minutes per player).

Would love to get this played.

2 - 4 players (would prefer 3 - 4)
2 - 3 hours
I've played once, so it'll be a teaching game, even if I'm not the teacher

Zach has this under Brainy Games, but I figured I'd create an entry. Last year, we had 2 games going simultaneously (and came close to a third). Who's up for it? Happy to teach (as heavy games go, this has fewer rules than most).

Always happy to introduce new people to the wonder that is 18XX. It's a mathy game, but I wouldn't say its any more complicated than most modern heavy euros.

My intent for this entry is a teaching game. Depending on interest, it could be a teaching game and a shark game (I personally own two copies and know there are more copies floating around). Also, depending on player count, I can teach and not play if that ends up working out better.

3 - 5 players
90 minutes - 4 hours (yes, 90 minutes (and less) is doable, but not in a teaching game; that said, I've only ever had one game take over 4 hours and that was ugly; I'd say 2 - 2.5 hours is doable for experienced players and 3ish hours is reasonable for new players).

Definitely not a "heavy" game but it just showed up here a few days ago and I need experimental lab rats volunteers to help me get familiar with the game before I try to get it on the table at home.

By the time HeavyCon starts, I should have figured out the rules. It's supposed to be a relatively simple-to-learn game but I haven't made much headway on the rulebook yet. I may have to resort to watching rule videos.

2-5 players, 90 minutes plus teaching time (figure 2 hours to be safe). Saturday or Sunday, time TBD.
