Played from the list: World Without End, Princes of Florence
New Game of the Month: Fox in the Forest. Two-player trick taking and it works! World Without End is great, but great like many games are. I'd love to play, but I'd just as well play something else. Concordia: Corsica is cool for two players. Maybe track down Crete/Egypt as well... Doesn't fit in the box, though.
New Game(s) in the Collection: Carcassonne: Amazonas, Concordia: Gallia / Corsica, Cornwall, The Cousins' War, The Cousins' War: Battle of Tewkesbury Promo Card, The Cousins' War: Events, The Fox in the Forest, The Game: Face to Face, Guilds of London: The Secret Guild of Guildsmen, Hanamikoji, Kanagawa, LYNGK, Santo Domingo

Hi! I'm Macaos. A cute, kind, sporty and fun Bearded Collie. I enjoy lying under the table when Macao is on the table.
Not a whole lot of gaming i January, but I have enjoyed the games I have played. We finished our campaign in Charterstone, and it has been a great journey. Hoping for an even better February.

Charterstone is the winner by a landslide. We opened it up and played 7 games in a row. Finished it up quickly after that, with my wife winning pretty convincingly. She won more individual games by a wide margin and the campaign easily enough. I needed revenge and ordered the Charterstone Recharge Pack with the though of playing again in February. But she didn't want to wait and went through it even quicker this time, with just just barely ahead on individual games won, but pretty far ahead overall. We had a LOT of fun playing this game, but I don't anticipate ever playing again. Why would I pick this over something like Agricola or Targi?
On my "four couples game night" we had a lot of fun playing Deception, Word on the Street and Codenames. The only other games that I played with someone other than my wife was Memoir '44. My friend and I are now getting all the terrain/obstacle rules internalized which is making for smoother games.
Quadropolis is my only other new game and it's ok, I traded for it rather than buying it because I wasn't sure how much I'd like it, but I imagine I will like it better with 4 instead of 2. Hope to get a chance in February to try that out.
Need to find a way to play more Concordia this month!
I played Ruddy Vikings and it's expansion deck three times in January: My sister seems to like this game a lot. However the last game we played ended up being quite long - especially for my two sisters as I was out of the game faster.
Still a good game, and with my sister liking it so much I think I will still be keeping it.

I somehow managed to kick of the new year by playing at least one game every day of the week in January. A New Year math trade plus some Christmas/birthday money meant I was able to add some new games to the collection I'd been eyeing for a while. On to the games...
100 total plays of 52 unique games in January 2018 (up 10 plays from last year).
8 new to me games and 1 new to me expansions played 17 times (17% of my total plays) - in bold.

I am going to track how many new games come into our collection as opposed by games that leave our collection. My goal for 2018 is the keep it at a 1 to 1 ratio or lower the total number of games I own. Originally I was going to try and keep to attaining "x" number of new games, but I enjoy the selling/trading aspect of the hobby and I'm still interested in trying new games so I decided against doing that.
January: -3, 8 new games total.
New games/expansions in my collection (8): 10 Days in the USA, Claim, Clank! In! Space!, Downforce (B-day gift, thanks Mat!), Evolution: Climate, Hunt for the Ring, NMBR 9 (plus the promo tiles) and Tatsu.
Games/expansions that left my collection (9 games + 2 expansions): Barenpark, Camel Up, The Castles of Burgundy: The Dice Game, Fabled Fruit, Honshu, LYNGK!, Montana, Space Race: The Card Game, Vs System 2PCG: The Marvel Battles, Vs: A-Force, Vs: The Defenders.
As always thanks for reading and please feel free to ask any questions.
Thinking about my next move.
So, if my only options are these, then I shall...
Hello, people! A great month of gaming, going to 163 plays for January, a huge increase of ~61,3% over last year, which had 101 plays.
The most played, as often is the case, is Lord of the Rings: The Adventure Deck Game, with 24 plays. But the big deal of the month is Samurai Spirit, with 16 plays. I sold Samurai Spirit, because it simply became too easy - it was just a matter to see if I could reach the perfect score at the highest difficulty - something I did 3 times. Yet, I had good times with it, and won't mind playing again.
The most played in January were:
1) Lord of the Rings: The Adventure Deck Game x24
2) Samurai Spirit x16 -- good, but too easy to beat
3) Solitaire x15
4) 1572: The Lost Expedition x6 -- new to me, and a nice push you luck mixed with exploring and storytelling
4) Black Stories: Superheroes Edition x6 -- new to me and probably the worst of the series and a contender for worst of the year already
4) Maquis x6
7) Port Royal x4
7) Regular Show Fluxx x4
Notables with 3, 2 or 1 play:
Crokinole x3 -- new to me
Space Hulk: Death Angel – The Card Game x3
Sword & Sorcery x3 -- campaing going strong
Bohnanza x2 -- out of the dust
The Castles of Burgundy: The Card Game 2
Gloomhaven x2 -- new to me, and very good. Yet, I have a pevee with it, regarding trading, that is bothering me quite a bit
Wizard Kings x2 -- new to me
Alhambra x1 -- out of the dust
Cat Lady x1 -- new to me, and a very good set collection filler that gives a nice amount of decisions
Friese's Landlord x1 -- new to me and the worst Friese game I have played
Lords of Scotland x1 -- out of the dust
Middle-Earth Quest x1 -- nice!
And that was it!
Up Nort' Der
We must move forward, not backward, upward, not forward, and always twirling, twirling, twirling towards freedom!
January ended with 77 total plays, beating my previous best from way back in January 2009 by 10!
A large chunk of this was from our annual post-holiday family get-together, which over the past few years has shifted away from running around to do assorted activities (waterparks, etc.), to being a full weekend of gaming.
Most-played this month was Coup, which is a popular one to play there, even though I'm mostly lukewarm about it at this point.
Just behind that was Sleeping Queens, a really great kids' game that my daughters have been asking to play quite a bit lately.
The only new-to-me game this month was Bears vs Babies. I was expecting it to be just as bad as Exploding Kittens, but was pleasantly surprised when it turned out to be halfway decent. Not a "great" game by any stretch of the imagination, but at least it won't leave you scrambling for excuses to avoid it.
Also of note this month:
I finally finished and released my 36-character expansion set for Everything vs. Everything. It started out on a whim when I created one custom character as an inside joke, but once that card template was set up it became super easy to create more, and ideas just kept on coming and coming until I finally made an effort to cut it off at four full sheets of 9 cards each. More details and the download link are here: New Characters Expansion!
The miniatures and expansion for Vast: The Crystal Caverns arrived, so of course that saw quite a bit of play:
My Play-By-Forum game of High Frontier finally finished. Despite a number of mishaps throughout the game, I managed to pull out to a narrow lead near the end and held onto it to win.
There's been a huge uptick in general gaming with my daughters this month. Almost every night the past few weeks they've been asking to play at least something, which has seen the reappearance of several that I hadn't played in many months or even more. One of these nights when there's a bit more time I'm hoping to introduce them to a few more games that will be new to them, starting with Small World.
