This was such a fun weekend that I've decided that I should make my first geeklist for the games I was able to play for the weekend.

Before the list, a big thanks to Nate and his wife for opening up their house to a complete stranger (well, friend of a friend) for the weekend! And a massive thanks to John for driving us up to the Con

John had arranged to have Zack teach us The 2008 German Edition of Planet Steam when we got there. This was a great way to start the Con. Man, what a beautiful board, and the resources were all different shapes and sizes, making them so much more interesting.

The rule to this game, according to Zack, "You want to always go first, except when you want to go last."

I was able to hold my own in this game and at least put up a fight, but alas, experience came through in this one. But Zach did a great job in teaching us this and the game was very enjoyable because of that.

Next up was Blood Rage. I've long been wanting to play this game, my hopes were very high for this.

To be honest, this game was good, but not great. I would not be opposed to playing again, but it's not something on my must have list.

A good filler to wind down the night. Not a whole lot of brain power need for this one, but it was certainly an enjoyable game.

This game has long been on my must play list and I was very excited to play this.

We were going to play a 5 player game, but Nate arrive just in time to take the 6th players spot.

I was never really able to get my engine running well in this game. I made an early mistake in missing the use of faction's ability and then I mentally couldn't get over that mistake. Not that I expected to do well in the game.

While an enjoyable game with quick turns, I think I need to give this one another play before I make judgement on this game.

After cleaning up Scythe, Tim and Brian came in to setup a game on one of the tables, Ryan and I jumped in with them. We decided on playing Tim's Fantasy Flight version of Planet Steam.

Decidedly, the 2008 Ludo version is much nicer to look at, but the functionality of the Fantasy Flight version of the game, makes it much easier to setup and understand the board itself.

While Tim and Brian setup the game, I went over the rules with Ryan trying to teach him as well as Zach had taught us the night previous.

This time I did understand a little more "You want to always go first, except when you want to go last" and was able to capitalize on that early.

The market in this game vs the previous game was completely different which in turn made for a much different game. Unfortunately for Brian and Ryan, yeah the names were a struggle early on, so we had Red Shirt and Ryan, Tim and I cleaned the market out of water on the second last turn, preventing them from having a chance at a last turn.

A very enjoyable second play of this game, that hopefully will lead to more in the future.

Brian stepped out and in came John and Nate to make a 5 player game both expansion game.

Maybe it was the first timer's luck, but Tim and Ryan ran away with this one, with Tim taking a commanding win here.

Apparently, because I owned the game, meant I should get the blame each time. That's my excuse for the loss at least.

I really enjoy this game each time I get to play it. It's just the setup and cleanup of this game I dread each time.

Brian came back, Ryan and Nate left the table and we were left with 4.

While this game was interesting, to stand a chance against seasoned vets of the game, I'd need to play a couple more times.

I liked the cube tower mechanism and the way choices were made. I just plainly didn't spread out far enough to feel like I impacted the game enough.

A quick run to Jimmy Johns and Starbucks and we were back.

We had just a short time before Nate had to head out for the night so we brought this one out.

This is definitely an enjoyable game. There is not a ton of thinking that has to go into every turn, but there is enough strategy to keep it interesting.

This was the one game that I really hoped I would get a chance to play this weekend. And Zach, again, pulled through on this one to not only supply the game but also teach it to us.

Zach won, again, maybe he teaches you just enough to be dangerous, but not enough to win? Only kidding, if I would of payed more attention to what he said, maybe could of stood more of a chance. Chandra also made a great move in the middle of the game cutting me off and leaving me in a corner.

We ended up having a battle for second, Me - 105, Chandra - 104, John 97, and Zach with a much higher 135 or so.

All in all a fantastic game that I can't wait to play again!

John and I played a quick game of Pueblo to fill some time. But this was not just an ordinary version, this was John's handmade copy. The board is so very well made.

I didn't stand a chance at winning as John is an astute abstract gamer. Maybe next time?

We ended the night with a 6 man game of Downforce.

I picked the same car for all 3 stages to get a win in this one.

A nice lightweight game to end the night.

We started out our day with a Minnesota goodbye, followed up with the most Canadian thing you can do, Tim Hortons!

Once getting to the Undead Viking Room, Tim asked if we'd be interested in a game of Mare Nostrum.

This game was a blast. There was a little tension between Brian and I on the first turn, but ended with us agreeing if Brian didn't go <--- that way (my interpretation, semantically his was a little different) , we would be at peace. Brian had a 10% chance to win the game on the second turn, but chose to play it safe.

Turns out that Brian's idea of <--- that way and mine were slightly different. But alas, it still was not enough as Tim was able to use Poseidon 's ability to buy the Pyramids. Although, if he didn't do it, I would have done the same on my turn.

This game was a lot of fun and a great way to end CoTN. I would say it was the surprise hit of the Con for me and I can't wait until I get the opportunity to play this one again.
