The idea behind these lists is to post what you're currently playing, or just played. It's interesting to see who's playing what, to see if people are playing the same things, and to ask questions that might otherwise be relegated to a forum about a game with the benefit of the responses coming from someone who has it fresh on their mind.

I'm experimenting this month with a minor title change, to see if "you're" instead of "we're" makes people feel more welcome to post. We'll see...

While there are several regular posters to this geeklist series, anyone is welcome to join in and post and discuss your games!

Here's last month's list: What We're Playing: February 2018

sheepsheepsheep March Challenge! sheepsheepsheep
OK, I'm going to keep doing monthly challenges.
There's a saying about March - "In like a lion, out like a lamb". So, this month, play a game with lions. Or lambs. But since Lion is awfully specific, we'll include any kind of cat; wild, domestic or otherwise. (Sure, you can probably do any kind of hoofed animal instead of a lamb as well, but let's be honest - we want games with cats!)

EDIT: To open things up more, it doesn't have to be a game about cats. As long as there is at least one cat in it as a card, piece or other element of the game.

==================
People who have accomplished the March challenge:

CrazyCatman
Ashtrix406
Marble911
StormKnight

Looks like I'm kicking off the list with an RPG!

Vacation

Last episode, Beth tried to teleport herself and Jasper home from the faerie world and missed her mark; being distracted thinking of how she could use a nice relaxing vacation, they wound up on a beach far from home.

A nice relaxing beach. On a nice island area with low tourists traffic.

Relaxing beach, warm water, gentle waves.

Nice, attractive, friendly people...who are unusually enthusiastic about getting strangers alone with them in the woods...who sometimes start acting all in perfect unison...and who on closer examination all have a puncture wound in the middle of their back...

Plus a mysterious talking fox skulking around the woods.

So, typical monster hunter vacation!

I just played a 2 player game of this with my officemate over lunch (I had to bring it to work - I work in a physics department!).

It ended up being a tie game, with him winning the tie-breaker. He could have won outright, if he'd gone for a Theory instead of an Inspiration on his last tun - it would have gained him one more point.

Some dice games tonight!

While we've played Roll Through the Ages: The Bronze Age a lot, for some reason we haven't played Iron Age much. Its a fine game with some neat twists that make it stand our from Bronze Age. But Lisa always clobbers me at it.

===========================

We also played some Las Vegas on Yucata. Meant to play a 3 player game, but I just had it set for 2 player; so one 2 player game with just Lisa and one three player game. Very fast dice game. A lot of luck, but very fun.

Dice Forge: The goal of the game is to have the most VP at the end of so many rounds. There are many ways to get VP which knocks it down on my list of likability, but you get to play on every round. One of the way to gain more VP quicker is to upgrade your dice, which means that you literally have to take little tiles off the die and put your upgraded one back on. It slows down the game a little and is a tad bit cumbersome, but all in all a good game. I will always be up for playing this game but as of now I would never buy it for our collection.

Century: Golem Edition: I know this is silly, but I really liked this game a lot better the Century: Spice Road. Maybe my girlishness showing through, but I liked playing with the gems a lot better. This isn't a game I would always be in the mood for but I will play again sometime. (Not Spice Road only Golem Edition! heart

Downforce: 2nd time playing this one and it's slowly earning its way on the I want to own game. Its so simply yet so much fun. If I played with kids, I would let the kids control there own cars so they could get more play interaction, and if they get stuck behind a group of cars in a turn, its would be no one's fault but their own.

Spellcaster: The person who recommended this one, said that he thought it was the 2nd best 2 player game besides Dead Man's Draw. Being that I love Dead Man's Draw I was willing to play it. But I didn't like it. Its way to competitive for a two player game.

Potion Explosion with Potion Explosion: The Fifth Ingredient: Jason bought this for me with the expansion and a wooden marble holder. He has been playing the game online on hard for quite a while now and I thought I had lost by a huge margin for how well the marbles lined up for him. But I was wrong. I only lost by 1 point.

Onitama: I like to play this game, its quick and makes you think about. I was lucky enough to download the beta app for this game for free, so now I get to play it on the go as well as at home!

We finally got around to playing another round of Charter Stone. It went quickly and I was actually pleasantly surprised at what came out of the latest tuck box.

Well, I was going to come back and add all the other games but it looks like Jason already added them! He did however forget 3 plays of Dead Man's Draw.

Went to a game day on Saturday. Met family before-hand for lunch at the White Chocolate Grill, which was super-delicious; the food there is always fantastic, not even counting the sinful desserts (which invariably involve white chocolate, of course).

We started with Dice Throne: Season One; "Season 2" of the game is currently on Kickstarter, so I curious to try it. Played a 2 vs 2 game. It was very close, but the other team (playing Monk and Pyromancer) defeated our Paladin-Dwarf combo. Basically yahtzee with special symbols where you roll combos to attack other players. It was fine, but I think I prefer King of Tokyo/New York for dice-based fighty games, and Favor of the Pharaoh for the Yahtzee type rolling.

(Plus, points against for calling things "seasons" )

==========================

Rising Sun

Finally got to play a "real" game of this. We debated about which copy to use, and went with Mark's...and then I was quite disappointed to discover he hadn't brought all the KS aesthetic upgrades like the plastic strongholds. Ah well.

I got a solid victory with the Turtle Clan. I got two of a card that let me steal money from the richest player when I summon, which seems like a good card to begin with, but having 2 was just awesome! It cost an honor to use, but I was on the bottom of the track anyway.

I enjoyed this (despite not being overly fond of the blind-bidding combat), but Lisa wasn't fond of it. And we can't play it two player. So...an uncertain future for it. Should probably just sell it.

==========================

Pulsar 2849

Latest hit from CGE! Really enjoy the huge variety of things to do in this game, though I feel like trying to get gyros going always loses out to exploring, which makes the game feel a little one-dimensional. Hmmm.

Sunday morning, tried The Shipwreck Arcana on Tabletopia. A co-op deduction game. Awfully easy 2 player, but nice light fun (though the Tabletopia interface is a pain). Played some games on Tabletopia, then happily discovered I could pre-order the game, including the KS bonus, quite inexpensively.

======================

Played a co-op variant game of Machi Koro. We were running out time due to a slow start, but got some big income boosts to win.

======================

And a co-op variant game of Terraforming Mars. A good high score with Terractor and Saturn Systems.

======================

And some Ticket to Ride with Ticket to Ride Map Collection: Volume 1 – Team Asia & Legendary Asia. The Team Asia is a really fun variant, but I'm just not all that crazy about TtR overall. I dislike the blocking and am just not spatially inclined enough for it.

I haven't logged this play yet and also not added it to my own lists and challenges... So you've heard this here first!

During my travel to Spain this week I had with me one multilayer game and one solitaire game. My friend do not seem to be really into playing games so he's multilayer game is still in it's shrink wrapping. And I am not waiting anymore so I will soon open it and play it with my sister!
Instead I had a play of Crazy Cat Lady. A game I like bringing to travels because the PnP version I have is nice and compact so it fits perfectly among my travel documents! I didn't win the game unfortunately, but also I did make a few mistakes.

I need to stop this terrible habit of drawing tickets near the end of the game, deciding I can complete all 4, then having someone trigger the end of the game.

But, like, I only needed two connections to get all 4 cities! It looked so easy to do!

KS game from a while ago. Sort of a mix between a tableau-builder and King of Tokyo, which a vaguely post-apocalyptic "diesel-punk" (as they call it) theme. Played it once and forgot about it, but I got curious to get it back to the table. Its got some rough points, but had fun with it.

The die rolling is weak; while its got the standard "roll three times" die rolling, there aren't any combos or anything; you just want high values on the dice. So the rolls are pretty boring. However, there are a variety of cards to get with lots of different abilities, and the constant fight for the point-scoring Ark is fun.

Would like to play some more of this.

Cat game played!

We went to our weekly game meet-up last night and played a few good games.

Labyrinth-I liked this game a lot. This game is simple to learn but hard to explain it without the board to show. The goal of the game is to travel through the moving maze in order to get to each of your destinations, the first person to do so is the winner. There is a little of take-that in the game but mostly you trying to manipulate the maze in your favor, so you can get to your destination quicker than everyone else. I would buy this one if given the opportunity.

Favor of the Pharaoh - It's a dice manipulation game which I think I may not be the biggest fan of. In the game you use your dice to buy more dice or other cards that give you ways to manipulate your dice. The end of the came occurs when someone gets 7 of a kind. But then others get a chance to beat that. So player 1 ends the game with 7 dice of 5's. A person could then win the game with 7 dice of 6's. It's a nice game and I would be willing to play most of the time.

Cat Lady - A cute card collection game. I really liked it and would love to own it. You have to collect cats and the food to feed them, cat toys for them to play with and other random items like costumes. The winner has the most VP.

The Fox in the Forest - I only played one single round, not to game ending VP. I defiantly want to play again.

Sorry, I didn't actually play "Zauberkater" - one of my favourite games from when I was a little kid. It's stored at my parents' place, so I don't have access to it right now.

I'm just using this to re-post my comment from below the geeklist, for easier access. I'll try to make up for it by playing both a cat and a sheep game before the month is over.

Here are cat components from 31 different games. There are probably a few more that I didn't think of, but this is what I managed to put together on one evening. Wanna see how many of these games you can name, either on your own or in a team effort?

I hope I can still remember what games I pulled them from so I can put them back! whistle

New KS arrival. We played a co-op game against the "automa" enemy; not quite a way its meant to be played, but it seemed to work well, though I think we messed up a lot.

A conquest/build up techs type game. Not bad. A bit clunky - we'll see if that speeds up with more play.

Gloomhaven: A guy that sold us Eclipse: Rise of the Ancients along with a couple other expansions invited us to a learning session of Gloomhaven. Jason got to play 2 scenarios while I only played one, which we lost by a huge margin. There is a lot to this game and to host newbies is a great feat! So thank you Long! While it is only a four player game, there seems to be a lot of down-time. Not because of your partners but because every freaking single monster has to move and attack just like you do and sometime they spawn even more monsters which cause addition set-up time. For me, it was an alright game. I would never want to be responsible for pulling the game in or out. The initial set-up, additional set-up during game play and the packing up for each single scenario does not make it a worth while game to me. I would be happy to play this along as I don't do any set-up, GMing or, packing-up. So yea, an alright game.

DC Comics Deck-Building Game : We didn't get to play the whole game, but it's a pretty good game, even if you aren't into super hero's or know who the heck is who. Everything is listed on the cards and its a pretty simple straight forward game. We will be replaying on Thursday. I would play anytime but would not own.

Santorini : I really enjoy having this game and playing it with my husband!

Patchwork : Another 2 player game that I really enjoy. I got to try some of the 1 play variants soon.

We played we our friend Kenny, since it was only his second time playing we didn't play with the super hard cards from the new expansion. We did take away 50 tiles for the 1st round we used the expansion and boy did our ships look like some drunk astro mechanics but it together! Open connectors everywhere!

I'm just going to put my weekend game in one item. Spent a lot of time this weekend doing taxes. Ugh. And just crashing watching TV from being burned out on taxes. We just finished rewatching the series RWBY for the second time in short succession; guess we need to find something else now.

We played two games of Spirit Island. Both games were pretty quick; enemy hit hard early, then we recovered and wiped them out. One of them we played the scenario "Powers long forgotten", where either invaders or spirits can find tokens with powers on them; the invaders got two right away (one was on the starting setup) which hit us with a ton of blight and blighted the island. However, we got them under control. We found the last power token, which let us destroy everything from one spot on the island; this let us wipe out the last buildings the same round we got the terror to level 2, for a very quick win.

=========================

Heroes of Land, Air & Sea
Another play. Its OK, but we're just not getting into this.

=========================

The Quest for El Dorado
Great deck-building race game. But hint on building boards; don't put just a little half-tile beyond a barrier as the last thing before the goal; makes it too easy to be in a situation where whoever gets rid of the barrier just lets the next player get to the end first.

=========================

Dream Catchers

Upcoming light co-op, currently available to demo on Tabletopia. The Tabletopia interface is poor normally, and just awful for a game with this many cards. Game itself was uninspiring. Cute art, but game seemed lacking. Hard to judge how it would be for kids, since I almost never play with kids.

Jump Drive
Lisa made almost as many points in her last turn as I did all game!
Love this little filler tableau-builder, but I feel like one development is overpowered.

=========================

A few games on Yucata:

Mystic Vale
Zooloretto: The Dice Game
The Hanging Gardens

=========================

In Spirit Island I played Sharp Fangs Behind the Leaves, which has lots of cute little cats...who eat explorers!

The Foreign King is a "big", but compact game about the German born Leopold who became the first King of Beligum (Leopold I). The game is designed by a guy from Spain - and published from a company in Italy. Luxembourg is also a region in this game.
I played The Foreign King with a handful of foreign players: In total we were players from Denmark, England, Latvia and Greece - in a Spanish game about a German guy being the Belgian king by an Italian publisher.

The game is great; And I actually like that it is compact - yet deeper than most small games.

After The Foreign King had found Daria of Riga his favourite, the rest of us fought for our honour in this beefed up Snap game.

I am not getting used to the various way to make a "Hit" (Snap) which is different from Snap. Apart from this, the game is actually okay. Not good - but okay.

We finally got to play the Exit: The Game – The Abandoned Cabin our friend SK sent us! It was challenging but luckily with Jason stuck in the cabin with me and a handful of clue cards, we got out! We got 6 stars and completed it in a little over an hour. I wonder if all the other Exit games use the same kind of puzzle mechanics?

Qwixx: My dad came over to help me with some work and a wrangled him into a quick game of Qwixx with Jason and myself. He liked it and wants to play with my mom next time they come over.

Yesterday, I played two games of Baseball Highlights 2045 (each game is each actually a series of mini-games where the first team to win 4 games wins) solo.

The official solitaire variant that comes with the game works surprisingly well, but if you find it too easy, mortenmdk has a simple variant to add difficulty:

Had to stay late at work yesterday and feeling clobbered, so we partly just chilled out and watched silly stuff. Played a quick game of Dark Seas before bed though. This is a very luck-heavy little game of rolling dice and building a little "island". We find it very enjoyable though.

Lisa started off with a good lead, but I recovered and put out a lot of pirates near the end (as well as having a bunch of treasures) to grab the win.

This just arrived! Co-op deduction game. Really quick to play and fun. Very easy with 2 players, but that kind of makes sense for a deduction game; deduction done well is solvable, so unless you make mistakes it kind of SHOULD be easy. Played twice last night. Expect to play this a lot as good light filler.

Kanagawa: I enjoyed this game despite having an overly hyper confused lady in the group. I feel that this would be a nice chill game. I may try to get to play it with Jason this weekend.

Hamsterrolle: What a awesome filler game. It is press your luck game with with physics! I can't explain the game, you will just have to watch a video. Cute game, would always want to play but would not own. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ETdvmIcAqJk.

Santorini: I love this game! I guess I am sucker for simple puzzlers.

Simon's Cat Card Game: I think this game is based off of another card game but I can't remember the name. Instead of matching number or suits your are trying to match number and color. If you play a pink 5, I can play a pink card with any number or a 5 card of any color. If you can't lay a card down you have to take the mess of cards. Person to loose 3 rounds looses the game. Would play again, as it is simple, quick and somewhat fun. Would not own.

Jason played The Grimm Forest.

Dominion: Intrigue: This was my second time playing this game. I was too busy chasing silver and gold rather than the VP points so I lost by a large margin. We own this game and I do enjoy playing it when we do.
