The recent Kickstarter of the second edition of Endeavor offered the option to buy a high resolution print and play version of the newly added Exploit expansion: The Lieutenant pledge update pack. This geeklist is about the next step after pledging - of sorts .
Please leave any comments you may have about this pledge level itself in this thread. Thanks!

In the 2nd editon of the game the main part of the Exploits will be printed on 7” x 4.75” tiles (poker size cards are 2.5” x 3.5”). The additional tokens required for this expansion are either made of cardboard or were upgraded to wood or plastic miniatures.

The Lieutenant level provides high resolution files of all those components. To use them, you’ll have to print and mount at least some of them on cardboard yourself. I’m still researching how to make it look better than printing in a copyshop on normal paper. Please let me know in the comments below (item # 6) if you have good suggestions to get the best looking components out of the files without overspending.

DIY - a way to customize components
As the Lieutenant pack is a DIY upgrade project, I decided to try put my own spin on things to make it the way I want it to look. This means a lot of my spare time goes into this project when the kids are finally asleep. However, it’s something I enjoy doing as a hobby.

As of this writing, the files haven’t been sent out. However, I will only share images here (or parts of them) that are publically available either from the Exploit spotlights or the Age of Sail/1st edition game pages.

1) Rules update
The 2nd edition comes with a few rule tweaks .
Most of them can be easily implemented in the first edition without adding any extra content. I posted an updated setup file if you're interested.

2) Regional crests
The artwork of the 2nd edition has been updated and doesn’t fully go along with the first edition. Apart from changes on the game boards that impact game play (no cities in Europe have trade tokens on it), the regional images on the boards have been completely changed.

vs

To easily adjust the Exploit files to work with the 1st edition, I reworked the 2nd edition regional crests so that the central images match the ones on the 1st editon board and cards.

As the 2nd edtion frames were used for this, you can easily copy and paste the mixed regional crests over the crests in the upcoming files. (Note: the crests I made are NOT in high resolution, but should work just fine for a print and play version).

3) Changing the exploit layout – 1: maps

This is where I’m playing around with possibilities of how to make things work more to my liking. I prefer to be able to pick up a card and read the text, so tokens on the exploits is something I will try to avoid.

The easiest solution is to have all exploit texts in a reference rule book. I hope that comes with the files.

Another option is to put all maps on a single extension map board. Currently, the exploit maps (shown in the "Not for print" exploits) are fairly basic and lack details which might be updated in the final files.

However, I started to make my own version which took me waaaaaaaaaaaaay longer to get together than I thought! No career in graphics design for me at this slow rate I was getting things to work. Here's a work in progress image.

4) Reworking the exploit layout – 2: Change the size of the cards

This again is something I’m happy to play around with and might not use in the end.

The idea is to save some table space and make printing easier. While the large tiles will look great (especially in the printed 2nd edition), I’m trying to make a smaller set with Dixit sized cards that I might be able to print professionally one day. This means that the historic background will be left to the rules set and the maps be moved to a separate board.

A very basic first trial can be found here.

5) Production

With the files still a few weeks away, I’m just starting to research how to get the best value for good quality prints of the components.

Print on 300gms paper or buy some linen finished sheets? Search for a more professional local printing service that makes the print pop more/look less like a homebrew? Try to reuse some boxes that would otherwise go to the bin or find good quality cardboard (at Australian Officeworks?).

I'm excited to see how far I will come with this project and if I will make it to this last step - or even get a result that looks close to being an original part of my 1st edition box (Dreaming!).

Thanks for reading
