This Geeklist chronicles some of the many games played at this weekly meeting of the Columbus Area Boardgaming Society.

The Columbus Area Boardgaming Society (CABS) is a club dedicated to boardgaming in central Ohio. The club started as a group of 15 friends back in 1997. Since then, CABS has grown to over 400 members with meetings almost every weekend. Our members play everything from Eurogames to Wargames to light family games. Our club also maintains a library of over a thousand games, which members can "check-out", just like any public library.

Come visit us at a weekly meeting. Your first meeting is FREE!

March 24, 1930 was the birthday of actor, Steve McQueen. McQueen played Vin Tanner in the celebrated western action movie, The Magnificent Seven. To celebrate his birthday, play a game of Flick ‘Em Up! and defend your town from bandits.

Sam appeared. I used Bios: Megafauna (2e). It was super effective. Also, Rachel and Tom were eager to try it. Our continents slowly merged into pairs, and then into Pangea, and never split up, although they did end up drifting as far south as possible just before the game ended. I'd never seen this happen.

In the fascinatingly brutal planetary conditions that occurred this game, although I managed to get creeples spread over a couple of cratons, my three species experienced mass extinctions in another one of our big die-offs (I was not doing enough neoteny to compensate, and the climate took a left turn), and we ended the game with so few creeples on the board (I managed to re-enter the game with 1, using my plants' 1 solitary action on the last round.

We ended the game 10-10-10-9. laugh We recounted that 9 quite a few times, because obviously we all had to have the same score.

Three rounds of clue givers. Favorite clues were “Kabuki”, “Cavity”, and “Vending Machine”.

I saw Tom, Rachel, and Donna sitting there with the rulebook, and I offered to teach. So, they offered for me to play. Yay!

I had never played the "short" game (6 rounds instead of 7; I never saw the point), but I got a perfect score! 87 points! …minus 87 points, equals 0.
laugh

Edit: Clearly I am accustomed to having 1 more round to work with. blush

First time. Pretty cool little abstract game. Chess that's not annoying, more or less, or different.

I could have skipped the last round and still won. Sometimes the dice go your way.

Closer for the night, with a full slate of 5, three of them newbies to the game. 2 of the newbies did very well, being within the classic "I needed one more turn" to win window.

This one hardly ever sees the light of day. It's a tough sell; a heavy economic Euro set in Meiji era Japan, building factories and distributing those products around the country. Hmmm... what else ya got? But when I can get it played, it's so delicious it's drool worthy. Perhaps a CABS school session? IDK. As I said, it has no sex appeal whatsoever.

I had the worst draw experience of any Orleans game I've ever played. Finished with a respectable 93, but far short of competing. Stupid bag...

I've said it before, and so has Starlost151 (Vince), this game is an under the radar gem of a filler. I believe the club has its copy still. Worth a look for a no luck 1 hr or less filler that is challenging. It is an unapolegetic cube pusher, so if cube pushing turns you off, by all means, steer a wide berth. If not, take a gander at it. Downside; Mr. Rulebook is not so completely clear. First play may be a bit rough if everyone is new to the game. Aside from that... cheers! laugh

My workers simply ran around in circles, but didn’t help me out much.

I can see why this appeals to people. It wasn’t much fun to me.
