So I finally decided, since I am semi retired from the podcasting world, that it was time for me to think about what my top 100 games would be. I've owned and played over 1,241 games according to BGG. Not sure if that's a good thing or not, but it is a fact. As a result, making this list was very difficult. I tried to do it as quickly as I could, to avoid the second guessing that can come from hyper-analysis.

This list has a few caveats. Here they are:
I did not pick games based on historical significance. I didn't feel the need to add "a worker placement game" for the sake of having a worker placement game.
These games assume I have any number of enthusiastic players available. I did not consider situational choices at all. No, "What if I need a party game?" etc.
I refuse to order them. I just can't, to be honest, so I'll present them in alphabetical order instead.

I hope you enjoy this geeklist. I was surprised by many things I discovered about myself when making it.

This is one of my favorite drafting games. I disagree that it is a gateway due to the card combos that can occur and the iconography, as well as the science scoring, but it's fast, interesting and fun to play. I love that you are only able to trade with left and right neighbors. This takes what could be an exhausting building phase and makes it manageable. It also does wonders (no pun intended) for the conflict phase since the person across the table with a massive army need not concern you. I still love this game, and like it more than Duel though I know that is not a popular opinion with many. Always ready to play!

This may be one of the newest to make the list. It's so powerful and unique in so many ways. The deck system and card play is so amazing and innovative. The exploration is engaging and the fact that there are small clues on the card art that actually matter makes the game even more engaging to play. I really enjoy the experience gained by playing this one.

If I want to play an 18xx game, this one has it all for me. Beautiful components and stunning production values, and so many wonderful scenarios to explore that I knew it would never grow old for me. Sadly, I had to let it go to finance my trip to Essen last year, and it may be the one regret I have to live with. A great trip for sure, but I miss my OE!

I love it, I hate it, I love it, I hate it (read like "My sister, my mother" from Chinatown). I have a strange relationship with this one. I enjoy the card drafting and play, I enjoy the tension, but it sometimes feels too restrictive which is one of those "I hate it" things. I love the challenge of the game, but wish it lasted a bit longer.

This is a great stock game, and very enjoyable to play. It is fast and always interesting to see the board evolve. The card flop can be a little random, but not to the point of frustration. I think this one is my favorite from this designer. Always welcome.

One of my favorite dice games. A really wonderful point salad style game where you always feel like you can do something good, but often can't pull off exactly what you want, so there's the tension of wondering if what you've done will be enough. A little nasty as well, which I've grown to appreciate over the years. Board graphic design is a little busy for my taste, but a wonderful game nonetheless.

Ah Brass, how do I love thee? Let me count the ways...
Thematic
Unique (canal to rail reset)
Interactive ("Oh, you wanted to use that port? So sorry, I needed it for my cotton).
Unforgiving
Rewarding (Repeated play leads to the light bulb moments)
Tight (Economy, almost to the point of strangulation, but not quite there (I know some people like that apparently, so does that mean I'm one of them and didn't know it?))
Satisfying (Feel a sense of accomplishment at what I've been able to build and achieve over the course of the game).

I still love this game. Can be so relaxing, or so nasty. Beautiful to look at, beautifully smooth to play, but with hidden depth of interaction and the dreaded farmer scoring. Who knew farmers were so crucial? Everyone always thinks it's about the cities. My farmers laugh at your cities!

A classic. It's so satisfying to play in the classic Feldian way! You're always accomplishing something, but was it the best you could do? Great fun and a joy to play with two or three. After that, I'll pass, but at that number it's close to perfect.

A wonderful game that has a soul as black as night. That provost. God I hate him, unless he's working for me of course! A game that feels timeless. Great to play, but not with two. Tough choices and not enough time or money to do what you'd like. A boa constrictor of a game at times. (Wait, is there a trend here?)

This is my go to game for that civilization experience. Unmatched, in my opinion, due to it's fascinating tech tree, as well as the cultural influence mechanism which, in my opinion, is pure dead freaking brilliant (to quote another favorite BGG user of mine). Just the right amount of randomness and chaos, just the right amount of exploration and fighting. Love this one. All it needs is some more of a trading system a la Civilization and you're done. Wonderful game!

A personal favorite. I love the opacity of the scoring that is reduced each time you play as you gain experience. Simple rule set as always, but deep game play that is always rewarding. The card system is wonderful and the customization that this adds keeps the game fresh, even without all of the wonderful expansions. The "Power Grid" of the current generation.

This is one of the best, most thematic games I have ever played. The experience is always epic (and that's a term I don't throw around casually). The tension in the action selection portion of the game is incredible, and it usually ends up as a "standing game" where people stare, pace and mutter as they wait to see what evil will befall them this time. A masterpiece of design and theme.
