My friends and I haven’t been playing games for too long. But we’ve started playing more and more recently. This list contains games that we tried playing and had so much fun it made us want to play more games. Made us want to try new ones.

We all have those games that we never forget playing and these are some of those games for us, in no particular order.

I’d also like to hear what games your groups fell in love with and made you want to play more.

I’ll never forget the night I pulled this game out and said “let’s give this a go”. No one had played a game like this before. The tension and suspense was real and I could see them getting hooked. We soon discovered that playing just one game of Werewolf was not enough.

Everyone wanted to have a go at moderating and trying out the different power cards. It was real fun to mix up the cards too. I even did a game where I made everyone a villager. I’ll never forget when the first dead person realised that no werewolves were waking up at night and tried so hard not to laugh hysterically as people were so sure they knew who the wolves were.

Definitely a group favourite. Now when we have big group gatherings, I always get asked if I could bring this game.

The first time we played this game was nuts. A couple NYEs ago we sat down at the table around 1am and started playing. The first game was a little slow as I explained the rules and had to make sure people understood what they were doing. After that game they all said "oh now I understand how the game works. Let's play it again now that it makes sense".

3 intense games later it was 5am. Every game we had played was won by the same person. No mater how hard we tried, he just kept winning. I was about to begin packing up the game so I could go home when one of my friends said "No! we can't let him win! We have to go again" so we set up again for a final round. He still won that game but this time we had to pull ourselves away from the game and pack it up.

We didn't leave until 5:30am. The sun was already up and we were so tired. All because we had to keep playing. We absolutely adore this game.

I brought this to a friends place one day with a few other games and the second they saw the eerie box art they were asking questions. The first game was really fun and it got better once the traitor was revealed. Even exploring the house and adding the rooms was enough for us to have lots of fun.

I still remember my friends getting really engaged in the game, when the traitor moved close and was about to kill one of us she squeezed my arm real hard in a moment of panic and left nail marks.

For the next few months, whenever we would get together to try new games I was always asked to bring this one along too for another game.

This game may not be for everyone but damn we've had fun with this one. We went to a free board game night at a place here in Sydney called The Nerd Cave, where you play games on their shelves with friends or with strangers. We were a group of 8 and the only game left on the shelves that could support 8 people playing was Secret Hitler.

This game got real funny and intense. There was a lot of yelling but after each game there was great discussion and reflection on how we played and the strategies.

We were told to keep the noise down many times by the staff at this place cause we were too loud. After this night, a few of us purchased our own copies and we've played it many times since.

We only intended to play 1 round of this game so we could quickly move on to the next game. We ended up playing 4 times. Everyone wanted to have a go at being the forensic scientist but not everyone got a go. There were some sad faces when we stopped playing this one.

It was interesting to have all the evidence point to so many of the clues and the fact that everyone got their turn to explain their theories meant that everyone felt they were listened to and that they had actually contributed. No one felt left out.

This furthered our love for hidden role games.

We wanted to have a go at a heavier game and we were glad this was the one we chose. I know it sounds cheesy but we were on the edge of our seat throughout this game. A lot of loud exclamations were made...some celebratory, some not.

We were heavily engaged in the game. As Dracula, I found it quite fun and challenging to work around their strategies as they had some great ones. They all worked together very well. The game came down to the last minute. I had 3 despair tokes on the board and 4 vampires in a row that would slowly mature. The game was surely mine. But I was defeated quickly and impressively in a combat we all had to stand up for.

I can definitely see us playing this game many more times and we are now looking into other heavy games with lots of strategy and rich in story to play.

We played this cause it had a Dungeons and Dragons theme and we were all interested in that stuff. We enjoyed how simple the game was to understand and we definitely enjoyed getting in the way of each others progress.

We hadn't really played a worker placement game before and we really enjoyed this one. It was new to us. We read all the flavor text we could to enhance the world we were putting ourselves into.

To this day we still talk about the first game and how one of us crushed everyone else by sort of building an engine that kept feeding her points.
