Warmer weather today, so of course the heating is on full strength in the hall...

Oh, well, a very good day of gaming, and a decent attendance.

Pretty much spoiler-free, this summary.

Another excellent scenario in this series, one of my favourites so far. Genuinely, as advertised, For Mature Audiences, not because of titillating or exploitative reasons, but thanks to an increasingly grim storyline & series of events. Not a lot of jokes in this one. There were, however, sufficient pop culture references & in-jokes to raise a knowing smile now and then.

The game itself was, I think, considerably improved by changes & additions to the rules, giving us an especially triumphant ending as we entirely avoided the often tedious drudge retracing our steps just to return to the point where we took a wrng turn last run. This, despite some truly atrocious die rolling throughout the game...

Sadly, they seem to have forgotten about the importance of green goo; hopefully it'll make a reappearance sometime soon.

A five player outing for the base game, lots of skirmishing, junk collection and contesting resources. A simple enough deck builder, and has expansions in the same box.

Andy, Brian & Iain set out on a mission to terraform mars, but to be honest they were really bad at it! Oceans were scarcer than hen's teeth! Cities few and far between and only a handful of greenery! Oxygen levels rose, the heat index rapidly improved and before we knew it...time was up! LITERALLY!

A late start due to transport issues but had little impact as this was probably one of the shortest games of this I am likely to witness.

"After a fairly uneventful start the crises quickly ramped up with the sudden appearance of basestars that resulted in the rapid deployment of raider fighter ships. The President hastily responded by creating an opportunity for the lone crack pilot "Apollo" Adama to retaliate, but this instead led to a sudden revelation that threw a spanner in the works.

The timing of this was perfect for the turncoat, who proceeded to activate every raider known to man and machine. The losses to the both the viper force and colony ships were swift and devastating. To make matters worse this was shortly followed by a synthetic snafu when the resolution of a crisis removed any lingering doubt that the chief engineer was also, in fact, rooting for the toasters. The chief made every effort to resist but it wasn't long before he was seized and forcibly relocated to the Brig. However with the majority of the viper fighters in the repair bay and the chief engineer now indisposed, all but the faintest of hope was slipping away.

In a bid of desperation the commanding officer ordered the FTL team to initiate a premature jump in a bid to evade the Cylon fleet before their main weapons were primed. This was successful but the sudden nature of this decision resulted in dozens of colony ships being left behind, sealing the fate of the crew and thousands of civilians. This slight respite was short-lived however as the Cylon forces gave chase and another two basestars appeared shortly after. These metallic behemoths began pumping out raiders into a ball of death that slowly gobbled up the remaining ships and fighters. With the fleet fragmented and morale at an all time low, it was almost over. With one last stand the remaining few fought valiantly, but eventually succumbed to their own "perfect" creations.

Better luck next time, eh guys?

And here's one that I thoroughly enjoy. Whilst the vanilla version looks good is it must be said that the Golem version is absolutely gorgeous. Love the crystals!

A fairly tight game with almost all the market cards being snapped up by the end. It seems that there's was a bit too much focus on building engines however, and this allowed one player to grab the final scoring card without anyone being able to react. Well played! thumbsup

A five player game of this wonderful, chaotic, card game. Michael, David and I had played it before, and Chris and Tony picked up the rules very quickly (impressively so!) and we soon began the rebuilding of Rome. The way the cards multi function is a joy, while at the same time being quite tricky in terms of planning. Michael exploited his clients masterfully and stuffed his vault full of materials, running out a comfortable winner.

I did however read the rules tonight, and I got the scoring wrong and the timing of "think" slightly adrift (sorry chaps!), although it wouldn't have prevented Michael's victory as he was on a Caesar like roll.

When you pass ("think") you immediately draw back to your hand size or take a jack/extra card. And when totaling the points you actually get points for all your influence i.e buildings as well as the materials in your vault. I can't believe I missed it, or saw it and subsequently forgot it! I'll remember for next time...Glory to Rome!

5 player game of this very nice, essentially set collection game coupled with resource management.

It is pretty much impossible to calculate who is leading at any point in time and ended up being the closest game of Concordia I have played; three of us scoring 118,119 and 119. The remaining two players were very respectable in at around 100. I ended up winning on my first tie break.

Very interesting playing different maps and the layouts are slightly different. Well worth a shot if you have never played it.

Now I have to go buy some of the expansions for my base game
