Well, if one thing never changes, it's that everything changes.
I've not been on BGG much lately. I've been super busy as life has had a lot of changes in store for our family. We just moved to a new house, and we moved my parents into an in-law suite in the basement. On top of that, my job has kept me crazy busy... I've more or less doubled my average hours. It's been good overall, but tiring.
So with that in mind, we're going to talk a little about changes. We'll start broad. Have you had any major life changes recently?
How about your gaming habits? Have they changed over the years?
This one's a bit of an oddball, but we've had a number of new people since I've last heard the response. What is your favorite game? And, in the theme of change, how often does your favorite change?
5.0 Enchanted Forest x2 (6 all-time)
5.0 UNO (29 all-time)
Pretty sad showing, but moving didn't make it easy to get stuff played!
They explained everything in detail and at great length. After they finished I sat, despondent, contemplating a bleak and empty future. "I’m glad you’re depressed" said one. "It means you’ve understood the situation.”
6.5 Test of Honour: The Samurai Miniatures Game
Played my third game of this last Thursday. A session report is pending Geekmod approval.
Long(ish) story short, I won in a walkover not due to great tactics but rather my opponent's poor luck. wasn't much fun either.
Not fully convinced by this system.
Session report is here:

Board Game: Primar
[Average Rating:9.00 Unranked]
What are you doing!? I don't even know you!
I received a preview copy of Primar - it's a Chilean-Taiwanese coproduction, so just my field of interest. The box contains three microgames for two players and is about to go on kickstarter (later this month?). I very much like the first of the three games, am indifferent about the second and love the third, which is a short trick-taking game. I don't know about the price, but it's going to be a small box and if you care about 2 player microgames at all, don't miss it.
The other new to me games weren't too remarkable. If you wonder about the absence of The Mind on my list, that's because the weekend before last, I played it at some friends' place and they insisted that I leave it there. I have bought a new copy since but haven't opened it yet because a friend who wanted to play it with me had to cancel at the last minute. It will be back. But The Mind shows its presence on my list anyway, because I had rated it on the NSV website. Apparently there is prize drawing for everyone who does that, and I won Habe fertig that way. Alas, that game didn't impress me much and went on to the trade pile after one play.

Games, games and more games!
Busy week of gaming for me - firstly the children are on school holidays, and secondly I had a gaming weekend!
Highlights of the weekend:
My husband's face when with a Tichu hand of 1-King run and a Dragon, he didn't manage to go out first (wished for a 2, my partner played bomb of 2s, then promptly went out himself without playing a single!).
Two hilarious Time's Up games, including clues such as "the colour I can't see", and guess like "two things that are different from each other" "Twins, identical, the same!", followed by "no, like 5 and 7" "12", just for added hilarity. I haven't laughed so much as I did in Friday night's game for a long while!
A very amusing Clank game, where I went for lots of feet (two Dead Runs as my first two card buys), and ended up in and out of the dungeon with the 20 artifact before anyone else had even reached the depths!

*With students in the game club*
8 TransAmerica (9 all-time)
TransAmerica has never failed to impress me or the people I introduce it to. I hope this group of students continues in the club next session. They're good friends who know not to take each other too seriously when playing games. This was the first time I had ever played with the Vexation expansion, and everyone relished placing their bits that couldn't be crossed. Thinking about purchasing the new version that is coming out soon.
*With the kids*
9 Catchup (18 all-time)
9 Carnivores (12 all-time)
7 13 Dead End Drive (9 all-time)
7 Love Letter (11 all-time)
6 Best Treehouse Ever (10 all-time)
8 Pit (6 all-time)
7 Timbuktu (2 all-time)
7 Doro-Doko (4 all-time)
6 BUS (2 all-time)
Many games with the kids last week. It was very good to revisit Carnivores, and Y seems to prefer this over Catchup. (Y bit me on my arm when I won.) Doro-Doko was fun, but I've realized that it's a little better with four people instead of three. And Timbuktu combines some of my favourite things in games but it's just too long to work as an after dinner game for us.
*With the adults*
7 Tchu Tchu Train (2 all-time)
9 Kontor x2 (11 all-time)
N/A Fresh Fish NEW!
Finally played Fresh Fish, which I got in a math trade a few months ago. It's much easier to learn than I had anticipated, but we were playing with the rules from the most recent version. Several people have said that the old rules allow for meaner moves--surprising since all three of us were waving our jerk flags this night.
On a side note, is anyone aware of any laws that might restrict the printing of coinage in games? I was a little put off by the plastic
coins bingo chips that were included in what is otherwise a really beautiful production of Fresh Fish. Only thinking of this after listening to an episode of 99% Invisible. Link
Lots of gaming this week - school holidays, with Helena having lots of time off.
Gulo Gulo x 1 (4 all time though I suspect many plays didn't get logged as I didn't use to bother doing so for games with the kids)
Terraforming Mars x 2 (13 all time)
7 Wonders x 2 (156 all time)
Sorry! Sliders x 2 (15 all time)
Turf Horse Racing x 1 (5 all time)
Race for the Galaxy x 4 (772 all time)
Alien Frontiers x 1 (8 all time)
Dungeon Raiders x 1 (13 all time)
Boggle x 1 (40 all time)
Upwords x 1 (14 all time)
Apples to Apples x 1 (59 all time)
Machi Koro x 1 (31 all time)
Caverna: The Cave Farmers x 1 (6 all time)
Smash Up! x 1 (3 all time)
Apart from not logging the kids games, the all time stats are definitely on the low side for the older games - Turf Horse Racing and Boggle predated me logging games at all!)
Some light gaming only last week from an "in scope" point of view. But in other news, Miss B and I also played Dungeons & Dragons, with me DMing her through a small, one-on-one adventure, which was her first play ever and my first for many years. Hopefully we'll get a group together and play a bit of a campaign.
8 Deep Sea Adventure x2 (8 all-time) - Another lunchtime session, with one new player.
7 BraveRats x5 (47 all-time) - A good spell of play with Miss B at one of our local coffee shops, and a couple of these games came to really tense endings.

Gudjon Torfi Sigurdsson
The week of 2-8 April:
Last weekend I met up with my friends in a rented house midway between where we live. We managed to play quite a few rather complex / lengthy games, most of them new to me (as one of us has been quite busy buying games for last couple of years). Of these games, Near and Far was my favourite, as it's something of a RPG-on-a-board. Gives me some RPG vibe, while not being too long. Rising Sun was also an interesting game, especially the betrayal option and it's effect on your honor. Eclipse was fun as well, but maybe that was because I managed to expand without much resistance while the others were a bit boxed in.
N/A Century: Spice Road x2 (8 all-time)
8 Colt Express (11 all-time)
N/A Eclipse NEW!
N/A Istanbul: The Dice Game (None all-time)

Shall I compare thee to a chevrolet?
...the headlamps of your eyes will make them dream.
ideal natto 3p x1
Soy sauce is a noble thing
mustard also reigns as king
but other toppings must decide
if they are worth a regicide
This game continues to be impressive, although it does require a bit of card memory- which meant that Megan is still wary of trying it.
unpublished prototype 3p x1
Values mutable and smeared
who will wear this precious beard?
Co-designing a game with co-worker. It may have legs, it may not. It will mutate for sure.
Sweet Honey Bee Mine 4p x1
Honey, honey everywhere, and not a scone in sight
I'd kill for yeasty fluffiness and Devonshire delight
Instead I thrust and parry bluffs and throw about my might
so i might have this honey trove to help me sleep at night
Holy snap what a hilarious game. It is much better with more, as you get more information, and stuff gets more of a chance to go around. I was terrible in the first two rounds, so I though, ok, I'll be far more conservative this time. Oh wait, it's the first card, I can take a gamble. There are two fours already in view, so there's like, a 1 in 26 chance he's trying to bone me. No way.
Of course, I get hosed. Ah, probability, you lying bitch.
Seven 4p x1
seeking sevens scuffle
Sevens. To my mind, the best intro to partnership trick takers. The pass is beautiful, the play is beautiful, and there are real nuggets of smart play- which are then upended by the odd deck distribution. Love it.
The Mind 2p ww x.3
a dainty wee satsuma without its outer rind
a wiffle or a golf ball or some other of its kind
these are the best comparisons i think that you will find
when looking for a metaphor for sizing up my mind
Megan was not impressed. Not angry, but not impressed. Indeed, not impressed enough to finish the game. May try again with more in the future. With a 6 nimmt deck though, as I got a good trade.
Sagrada 2p ww x1
a camel is a horse
by committee, but of course
a platypus is crafting
a horse by vicious drafting
A perfect little wind down with Megan. It was only like 15 minutes, but it was brutal and fun. We now play with the secret goals divided by half (rounded up) as sacrosanct.
She had a perfect board, despite my sniping all of her colour.
