Board Game: Singularity Deck


The Singularity Deck is an evolution of playing cards that is infinitely expandable and allows for an immense number of games to be played, adapted and original. The card back and suits have been released to the public domain so anyone can add new cards or expand the deck.


The deck is available to download through my patreon in full resolution jpegs. It's pay whatever you can afford. Patrons also help me decide what projects to work on next.

This geeklist includes a list of adapted games that can be played with the singularity deck (along with some other bits). If you know of any other games that can be played with the deck feel free to add it below. The singularity deck consists of up to twelve main suits and one special 100 card suit. Each main suit contains all standard playing card ranks (A thru K) plus a few extras including an 11 & 12, a singularity card (ranked infinity and 0), a City/Tower card, and an Ω card. They each include three copies of the A-rank and one copy each of the other ranks, for a total of twenty cards (A,A,A,1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,10,11,12,J,Q,K,C,Ω, and singularity) per suit. The omega card represents a catastrophe associated with each suit. The idea is that each suit begins with alpha and ends with omega (excluding the singularity itself). Additionally the cards have secondary suits called shields, and secondary dice ranks. In addition to the main suits, there is a special, stand alone, 100 card suit called the Spacetime set. The card art depicts an hourglass counting down to the inevitable heat death of the universe.

To get the most use out of the Singularity deck it helps to have some other bits, including some dice, meeples, and tokens.

Use 3 suits, ranks 1-9 (Ace representing 1), with different shields for the main cards, plus 1-4 of the Spacetime suit for the rockets. Use the 3 suits with matching shields, ranks 1-9, for the task cards. The reminder cards are optional, but you could use any face cards, and just hold them facing the other players.

You need the logbook and tokens as well.

Amazing game...if you can find 4 players who all know it reasonably well. I mostly play it on my phone, although you could play it with the singularity deck by just mapping the special cards onto some of the extra ranks.

An area control game, with I cut, you choose mechanics.

You need 7 suits. Each suit needs a geisha card of the appropriate rank. You'll need three rank 2 geishas, two rank 3 geishas, one rank 4, and one rank 5. You'll also need a number of item cards for each suit, equal to the rank of the geisha. The rank of these item cards is unimportant.

You'll also need 4 tokens for each player to represent the available actions you have remaining for the turn. You could map these to unused cards, with a player aid explaining the actions.

Ideally, you'd want 7 victory markers, one for each geisha. But lacking any sort of marker, you could start each geisha sitting horizontally between the players, and turn them vertical, with the dice pips pointing to the winning player.

Given the current status of the reprint it's looking less and less likely that I'll be able to get my hands on the retail version which is a serious shame, because the production is beautiful. At least it's still playable with the singularity deck.

Edit: Good news, given the release of the new version of the game I was finally able to pick up a copy. Even better news, the art was done by the talented Beth Sobel.

This game is fantastic and deserves all the praise it gets. It's also my most gifted game, as I think it has a wide appeal. This is easily playable with the singularity deck as it contains 3 Aces which work as the handshake cards and it has enough suits. It also has city cards which can replace the board from the original. I'm actually working on a variant design of the game that uses the singularity deck specifically.

With the dice ranks on the bottom of the cards you can play hanabi. The deck comes with 3 A's each with a 1 pip dice. Each of the other die pips are represented twice within a suit. The discs can be used to keep track of the clues given.

Fun little dice game. The singularity deck maps onto the currency distribution pretty closely. You just need some dice for each player.

I went ahead a whipped up some cards for indicating the casinos. I decided to go with a slight retheme and make it so that players are fighting for control over different islands. If your dice represents armies it kind of explains why equal numbers of dice eliminate each other, as evenly matched armies take each other out allowing for weaker armies to sneak in and grab the spoils of war. The question mark card is the slot machine in the expansion.

This is a beautiful looking design and fantastic game. I'm definitely getting a copy, but for the time being it was great to test it out using the singularity deck. It is playable with either the cosmos or earth set. It requires 18 cards of 6 suits, rank is unimportant.

8 suits, ranks 1-13 (you could use Jacks for 13 if you don't have extended ranks), plus 5 "joker" cards that are wild. For the joker cards, you could use face cards from an unused suit or cards from the Spacetime deck. A player turn marker would be useful.
