With the myriad sources of game news coming out of hundreds of publishers, large and small, it's difficult for even the informed gamer to know which releases to look forward to. This list is an attempt to aggregate what the BGG community as a whole is anticipating, omitting my own personal biases as much as I can.

This is a list of games sorted by what I call the "buzz score", that is, the number of wishlists the game is on minus the number of owners that game has. Most of the time, this will highlight games that are not yet released, but games may stay on the list after their release depending on how much people want them, and how quickly people have bought them. Obviously, games must be in the BGG database to be considered, but after that, there are no criteria beyond wishlists and owners.

I will post an updated version of this list about every two months. Here are some previous lists:

Jan/Feb 2018
Nov/Dec 2017
Sep/Oct 2017
Jul/Aug 2017
May/Jun 2017

There is also a subscription thread for this Geeklist series. If you wish to receive a notification when I post future versions of this list, go over to The Buzzlist: Anticipated Releases - Subscription Thread and subscribe.

Thanks to wildthayne, this list now has its own microbadge! Check it out here: mb

Scythe: The Rise of Fenris
Design: Ryan Lopez DeVinaspre, Jamey Stegmaier (Scythe, Viticulture)
Specs: 1-7 players, 75-150 minutes, Age 12+
Stats: 2143 wishlists, 27 owners

[Previous List: #1 (1768)]

The Rise of Fenris is the latest large expansion for Scythe. There are two modes to this expansion. The first is a 8-scenario campaign mode, which, like many recent legacy games, will include sealed envelopes and containers so that players will be surprised by game mechanics introduced in these scenarios. However, it will also be fully resetable. The second mode is set of 11 modules that can be mixed and matched into the game. Both the campaign mode and all of the modules will be able to be fully integrated with all previous expansions.

Release Notes: This expansion from Stonemaier Games should be released at GenCon in August, with copies available in retail shortly afterward.

Specs: 2-4 players, 45-60 minutes, Age 12+
Stats: 1303 wishlists, 65 owners

[Previous List: #2 (1197)]

The Rise of Queensdale is a competitive legacy-style dice worker placement game. In this game, players are competing to build a palace for the queen so that she can recover from her illness. While each session will have a single winner, players can also achieve a threshold that will advance them to “level” for the next game, which in turn requires a higher threshold. Successful players will get persistent bonuses that will help them in subsequent games, but players that fail to achieve the threshold will get new stickers for their dice that will help them be more competitive in future games. The game also comes with a miniature plunger that will help remove tiles inset in the game board.

Release Notes: This game from alea/Ravensburger is now available from their website in German; English language versions should be available at GenCon.

To do this, players send out their agents to different cities to collect its resources. Along the way, these players can perform additional nefarious tasks, such as destroy buildings, complete evil missions, or even sabotage the actions of other players. Agents are placed face-down to hide their specialty until resolved, which happens after three agents are placed in the same city. The game ends either when a player completes his contraption, or when all of the buildings are destroyed.

Stats: 992 wishlists, 112 owners

[Previous List: #8 (972)]

UBOOT is a real-time cooperative game that is a realistic simulation of operating a German WW2 submarine. Players each take on a role—the captain, the first officer, the navigator, and the engineer, and each of these players controls four seamen in that department, each with his own specialties. Actually, it’s more like eight seamen—the game happens over two watches, and when the shifts change, the players flip over their player boards, making their pieces represent different men with different abilities. The game takes place on a large three-dimensional cardboard model of a submarine, and a mobile app operated by the first officer tracks the submarine’s location, allows the sub to interact with other vessels, and mediates events.

Release Notes: This game from Phalanx Games funded on Kickstarter in February. They expect to ship to backers in December 2018.

[Previous List: #12 (860)]

Chronicles: Origins is a civilization game with two distinct types of games included. In the first type of game, players take on the role of leaders of a small stone age culture, guiding that culture through harsh environments and toward prosperity. After this stone age game has been played a number of times, the successful tribes created by these games can be combined into a bronze age game where the tribes have evolved into competing city-states. Naturally, only some of the city-states will survive this game, and those in turn can be used as the basis for a later-period Chronicles game that will be released at a later time. This successive journey through history is the basis for the designers' "Echo System", which will be featured in the Chronicles series of games.

[Previous List: #22 (692)]

Coimbra is a dice drafting game where players draft dice of four different colors. After being drafted, dice are placed in one of four areas, three containing cards and one containing tiles. After all dice are placed, tiles are taken by the placers of the dice in ascending die order, while cards are taken in descending card order, with the pip value of the die determining how much the player must pay for the card. Then, the colors of the dice are evaluated, with each color allowing players to take one of two types of income, move their pawn around the map board to claim bonus spots, to just claim victory points, all according to how high on those four tracks they’ve gotten. There are also variable end-game bonuses for being the highest on the tracks, as well as a variety of end-game bonus goal cards that can be claimed.

[Previous List: #13 (854)]

Like the designer’s previous games, Edge of Darkness is a “card-crafting” game in which players can create custom cards by inserting card portions printed on clear plastic cards into sleeves. In this game, players are trying to defend their cities from attacking monsters. To do this, players craft their cards, but these cards go into a common card pool and can be drafted by any player for use. However, the player who drafted the card must pay the original crafter to use actions on the card. Furthermore, the backs of the cards are the monsters that the players must fight. A cube tower is used to determine which monster fights which player and when that occurs.

[Previous List: #24 (657)]

Teotihuacan: City of Gods is a dice worker placement game set in the pre-Columbian city of the same name. Throughout the game, players will improve their technology, build structures, and advance on temple tracks, but have to make sure they can feed their workforce.

Release Notes: This game from NSKN Games will be released in October 2018.

Dragon Castle
Design: Hjalmar Hach (Photosynthesis), Luca Ricci (The Vampire, the Elf & the Cthulhu), Lorenzo Silva (Potion Explosion, Steam Park)
Specs: 2-4 players, 30-45 minutes, Age 8+
Stats: 1524 wishlists, 779 owners

[Previous List: #7 (973)]

Dragon Castle is a tile-laying game in which players are drafting thick Mahjong-like tiles that are stacked like in the computer game Taipei, and add them to their own arrangement of tiles on their player boards. Players must take a tile off the top level, and either take a matching tile with a free edge, take a shrine piece, or discard it for a victory point. Tiles can be placed on empty spots on their board or on turned-over tiles. Once at least four tiles of the same suit on their board are adjacent, they are immediately turned over and scored according to their size. Shrine pieces are also added on top of flipped-over tiles, which prevent further upward growth, and also score according to their height. Players can choose to add variable rules cards in to change up their games, or change the initial configuration of tiles in the center board.

Release Notes: This game from Horrible Games was available in limited quantity at Essen 2017. CMON is doing North American distribution, which should happen around May 2018.

Batman: Gotham City Chronicles
Design: Frédéric Henry (Conan, Timeline)
Specs: 2-4 players, 60-90 minutes, Age 4+
Stats: 916 wishlists, 208 owners

[Previous List: #6 (1086)]

Batman: Gotham City Chronicles is a scenario-based tactical miniatures game based on the game system first found in Conan. One player takes on the role of the villains, while the other players play as a hero from the Batman universe. Players each have a number of action points that also double as hit points—actions used move these points from the active area to the fatigue area, and hits taken move those same points from the fatigue area to the wound area. There is no turn order for hero players—they can perform actions in any order. The villain player can activate his units by spending his own action points, and the number of action points it takes decreases depending on how long it’s been since that unit has last been activated.

Release Notes: This game from Monolith successfully funded in Kickstarter on March, and late pledges will be available starting in May. The game will ship in April 2019.

Design: Uwe Rosenberg (Caverna: The Cave Farmers, Agricola)
Specs: 1-5 players, 20-100 minutes, Age 12+
Stats: 1917 wishlists, 1217 owners

[Previous List: #14 (812)]

In Nusfjord, players take on the role of fishing companies in the eponymous village in northern Norway. Like many of Rosenberg's previous games, this is a worker placement game, where players have to place workers on action spaces on the central board in order to take actions like clearing forests, buying a cutter, or constructing a building. However, this game also adds a stock mechanism to earn a player extra money--if purchased by another player, stocks will allow that player to benefit off of another player's success.

Release Notes: This game was originally from Mayfair Games, which was recently purchased by Asmodee. As such, the release is up in the air.
