Yeah ...
I think, this month is going to be a lazy on ..

So, I'll just pretend to craft a game where I can pretend to roll dice for imaginary ressources ...

I've had this together for a while, but after playing, the dice were too light, and the edges too rounded. It would fall on a whim.

I finally got some blank dice for another build, and I used extras in mostly the jellybean colors. It just barely fits in my mint tin. Easier, but not so crazy easy that it won't fall.

Sad that this PNP was taken down. Hope the game gets published eventually.

brand new game, The Thrifty Collector. First impression: the art is beautiful! The colors are fun, the font is whimsical. I don’t have to at this early beta stage, but of course I’m constructing the cards with backs. And I am excited to play it right away!

Hello Guilders,
i´m impressed since winter 2017 from some 18xy games, so i decided to craft a P&P the expansion of 1867 Canada for our original 1861: The Railways of the Russian Empire from Lookout Games. 1867 luckily uses nearly the same hex-tracktiles and nearly a same rulebook as 1861 Russia and is created fromIan D. Wilson.
I will add some photos during the manufacturing proceeds. Have a nice dice summer!

‘s new game, Evolution Island, an entry to the 2018 Solo PnP Contest.

Cost: free

Build Difficulty: Easy, 32 tiles and 32 cards.

Notes: this abstract game is well-designed and easy to learn — within 3-4 turns I had a pretty good handle on the gameplay. Play requires you to recognize and build upon two visual patterns on the tiles: the animal pictures (Herds) and the tile color (Habitats). Your goal is to connect as many of these two types of tiles together as possible. The more you connect, the more points you score. Unconnected tiles substract from your score, so you want to minimize those. However, there are Move cards that you must play each turn that throw a monkey wrench into your plans. It’s a game with elegantly simple mechanics that quickly forces you to make some brain-burning decisions. Fans of abstract games will likely fall in love with this game.

I've put a copy of this pnp game together. Reading the rules reminds me a bit of Kingdomino with drafting (scoring works a bit differently). Hope to get it played in the next couple of days. A bit uncertain on how some of the billboards get scored (I assume the conditional ones score you zero if your opponent has a bigger aquatic exhibit than you do for example).

There was a game from the 2015 children's contest that was later revised, called Raindrops. The designer had lost the art, so I broke out my inking pen and my son's crayons and drew up some flowers.

A headcold is slowing me down. [Update: Got it together!]
From gallery of yamaraus

For those with very little ones, this game seems promising. My son (age 4ish) is excited to try it.

Update: My son really loved playing the raindrops and growing the flowers. He really wants the seeds watered though, so it's more like "rain placing" than "rain drops"

Long-time PnP lurker; first-time poster.

Last night, I got a wild hair and printed out the grayscale PnP files that have been made available for this little kickstarter game. It's admittedly a very primitive build -- regular printer paper cut and glued to a couple old decks of playing cards -- but I gotta start somewhere, I guess.

The picture shows just a few of the cards, but it's 108 cards altogether. It would be so much better in color, but I'm still stoked that I made this and was able to have the enjoyment of playing it right away.

Nexus Ops Conquest (Continued)

I found the 3.9" tiles and 1.25" wooden tokens at printplaygames.com. The tokens I'll paint with marooon satin Krylon.

I printed the tiles and tokens on 26lb quality bond which has a sem-gloss sheen and shows the ink well.

The hex tiles are a problem. Many are single, but some are double and there are three faction sets of 3. The hex tiles I got from PPG are singles.

I've created a blank set of hex tiles which I'll use as a backing to sandwich the tiles in place. For strength, and to keep them from bending in the middle, I'm going to try gluing them together between the laminate.

I'd originally considered making them foldable, and still could if I work out a method of a hinge that's not too thick, which would mar the smooth surface of the tile.

From gallery of oshiricohn

Continuation: Here is a picture of the finished tokens and a mix of the tiles in various stages. Still working on them but they're coming together.

From gallery of oshiricohn

The wooden tiles have four layers of Krylon primer/paint satin finish maroon. The printing is done on Avery internet labels.

I sprayed adhesive on the tiles and laid them on the image. Not perfect at all, but playable. The double tiles are both glued to the paper and then I opened the seam slightly and ran a bead down the middle. They're all now resting between sheets of waxed paper under about 10lb/4.5kg of books.

Update: Starting to look like a game, very nearly playable. I assembled the triple tiles this evening, but have not yet glued them at the seams. I'll do that tomorrow.

I still intend to glue a white layer on the other side to sandwich the glued together tiles for additional stability.

The cards were provided by the original creator, who sold me his spare set. That just saved me TONS of effort, not to mention paper and ink. I plan to play this weekend with some friends.

Various angles - taken from an iPhone and apologies for the angles. I'll edit them sometime this weekend.

to the 2018 Solitaire PnP Contest.

In this game, you are stumbling through a mansion with many rooms, one-way doors, a secret passage, and a ghost. You are searching for Eva's bones, which are hidden somewhere in the house. You must find them, return to the Main Entrance, and return her mortal remains to the earth, so that her restless spirit may finally be laid to rest.

The game features an ingenious mechanic that randomizes the order/sequence of three clues each new game, plus the random shuffle and distribution of the 13 Secret Cards throughout the house -- thus ensuring that Eva's bones are found in a different room each time you play. Another plus is that the game is played using a standard deck of cards, where card numbers represent one-way doors between different rooms in Eva's mysterious mansion.

A quick build, and a quick, puzzly card game.

Crammed this solitaire game with some quick paper playing pieces and mini D&D dice into an undersized mint tin.

Board Game: Oh My Lair!

Not sure it's my cup of tea, but my son had fun co-playing with me, so I'll be giving it a few more tries. Cute art, short and fairly clear instructions, if you're not trying to learn while telling a 4 year old how to play, while also under a head cold.

My son's advice is to mine gold every round.

‘s new card game, [WIP]Around the World in Eighty Days[2018 Solitaire Design Contest - Contest Ready], after which I provided a session report and feedback to his WIP thread.

Verdict:

This game is super fun, and provides some tense yet deliciously enjoyable moments! I had my issues understanding the rules, but these were not enough to stand in the way of my immense enjoyment of this light, fast-paced (20 minutes or so), eminently playable filler game. The card play, choice of travel cards, and the Travel Bar mechanic is well designed and well thought out to provide a sense of enjoyable tension all throughout the game. Janine Viglietti’s variant game board / map really heightened the theme and feeling that I was Phileas Fogg, in a mad dash around the world. Highly recommended!

Cost: Free

Build Difficulty: Easy, 48 cards to sleeve, Player Control Panel and Scorecard to cut and laminate.

Played?: Yes

Notes: The other sub game I built is Rack Patrol, a solo, completely card-driven, small-footprint, tactical simulation of sub warfare during World War II. You take command of an American sub hunting Japanese subs. The cards look overwhelming and packed with information, but you only ever need one bit of info from each card, then discard it. It’s an ingenious system, actually. And unlike more in-depth and grander submarine simulations, this one can be played in around 10-15 minutes. Perfect for a submarine warfare fan like me (read my Dad’s copy of “Run Silent, Run Deep” when I was eight years old) who doesn’t have the time to invest in multi-hour detailed strategic sims. Since the designer provided no card backs, I decided to sleeve the 48 cards. For the first time, I also laminated components - the Player Control Panel, and the Scorecard. Now the submarine enthusiast in me is happy.

Build Difficulty: Medium, have to build hex tiles. I used two layers of vinyl for the core, two layers of card stock for the top and bottom images. Nice feel to these large tiles. Looks good on the table, for a PnP. The tokens are ugly though, I have to search for submarine meeples and apropos cubes.

Played: Yes

Notes:I built Pocket Sub, a quick filler submarine-themed abstract game about moving submarines, placing and avoiding mines, and becoming the last sub standing. Not a sub simulation by any means, but I was attracted to the large hex tile modular game board, and the challenge of devising a solo variant for this game (not hard).

Will be making this from scratch (finding out that drawing pentagons without a compass or protractor is not as hard as you'd think!)

The Christmas 'episode' of this is what finally made me decide to print the whole game up. Finally had time next to a printer to make it. This game is pretty small when it's cut into components.

I thought it'd be fun to make up a "Christmas Game Box". So it'll go in there.
