The idea behind these lists is to post what you're currently playing, or just played. It's interesting to see who's playing what, to see if people are playing the same things, and to ask questions that might otherwise be relegated to a forum about a game with the benefit of the responses coming from someone who has it fresh on their mind.

While there are several regular posters to this geeklist series, anyone is welcome to join in and post and discuss your games!

Here's last month's list: What We're Playing - July 2018!

222 August Challenge! 222

Play two different games that share a theme (Ex: Marvel HeroClix and Marvel Legendary), strongly connect in mechanics (Ex: Agricola and Caverna would be a strong example), are part of a series (Ex: Forbidden Island and Forbidden Sky), or in some other way connected.

A card game I played a few times as a kid - kind of like a 53 card UNO - but more in a style of a simplified Crazy Eights (1930s).

Quite nice game to relax to and can be played with shown Olsen cards - or with a standard deck of cards.

Another old card game; It can be quite fun, but is also quite repetitive: It's actually only fun if you play it fast. Else it is mostly for the kids.

Ready to avoid World War 3? Game is set during the Cuban Missile Crisis and each player take the part of USA or USSR - trying to gain most influence without starting a nuclear war... Kind of a simplified version of 13 Days: The Cuban Missile Crisis which is kind of a simplified version of Twilight Struggle.

This is where physics come into the boardgaming: You have some ants and you try to capture the other player's ants to build them into an Ant Queen.

How the "combat" is working is no dice roll, no combat tables - just place your ant on top of the enemy ant (or stack of ants if they already captured some), then let... Newton(?) decide who wins: Inside the ants there are magnets and they are either negative or positive on the bottom so you will either stick to the enemy ant or reject it. If you reject it, turn your ant around and place the opponent's stack on top of your ant - you just lost an army ant!

Bring the ants back to the lair where you build the ant queen of seven parts - you do not use your own colours and you send any doubles to the Ant Prison where they can be picked up by either the owner (rescue) or any other player (capture).
If you have build the Ant Queen by your own colour by accident - you loose.

Nice game, and the stacks can be crazy high if you are lucky...

My KS of the two Brass games arrived this week so I played one 2 player game of each on successive days. Firstly, production quality is excellent - components, artwork, its all brilliant. Secondly, gameplay is 99% unchanged for Lancashire, while Birmingham adds beer (acts a bit like coal in that you need it for certain buildings when they flip) and potteries, which are like an alternative cotton mill. I've always loved Brass - a top 10 game for me - so these versions are very welcome. Due to the novelty, I'm enjoying Birmingham a little more than Lancashire.

This month has been a bit of mess so far. Today was no exception, as our computers were crashed by a power surge (maybe?) and Lisa's wouldn't restart. Spend quite a while today dealing with it.

So, games for the last week...

We learned this fun roll and write at the con last weekend. Its super-addictive!

We've played several games of it, having put together a homebrew version to last us until we can get a real one.

There's also an app version, which I've played a ridiculous amount of since getting home.

Had to play some Space Base as we were deprived of it all last week.

Still addicted to this light die-roller. The other day Lisa won with a combo of swapping powerful cards into better numbers. Today I won with arrows from 8-9 hitting a lot of points and a doubler; I got 15 points in one roll!

Strange push-your-luck die roller, in which you start as a dreamer but can turn into a nightmare with different play conditions if you push your luck too far.

Liked this a lot originally; while its still fun, we've had some recent light dice games that we like better.

And of course we have to play some Spirit Island! This game we had Sharp Fangs Behind the Leaves and River Surges in Sunlight. We took some early corruption hits but cleaned them effectively and had some really good combos of cards to put out beasts and attack with them. 100+ plays in the last few months and not even close to being bored with it!

Another try of Everdell! Out of silliness, we decided to try playing the solo variant with some minor mods as a co-op (doubling the AI player's score) to make it comparable. Some kinks to work out, but that worked pretty well; the solo game seemed a bit less dynamic than the real game though.

Really cute. Starting to see more of the ways to chain cards for better effects.

Recently arrived from KS!

We decided to try the Oblivaeon scenario...then after getting it set up, which was exhausting, and playing one round that took almost an hour and had most of the heroes almost dead, we decided to scrap that and just play the new heroes vs. good ol' Cosmic Omnitron, which was way more fun.

I don't know that we'll ever play the Oblivaeon scenario. It just looks ridiculously fiddly, and so hard its pointless. Oblivaeon did 14 damage to all the heroes on the first card of the game!

Jason taught Justin and I how to play CV. I like this better than the other "Life" game we played. It was work replacement and more in depth. This had all the good qualities. Which is creating a life story for someone!
My lady was married, had work friends (but somehow never had a job) inherited an apartment, lease out a farm house, worked out, volunteered and finally started up her own business (which I am sure had to do with farming!)

Jason and I got invited to a friends house for some games on Friday night and we played a few games.

Booty was a surprise for me. I thought the whole "grand master" chosing sets of cards for people to choose from and the grand master changing to different players in the middle of a game. Was confusing at first but really enjoyable.

Antidote X2- I am not into deduction style games. After I understood this one, it was more pallet-able the other games of the like.

Cockroach Poker: Simple game. I like it better with a larger group!

Werewords Deluxe Edition X6: I enjoy this game. This time I was the Seer 3 times in a row and I got caught 2 times. On the third time, I didn't ask many questions so I was accused the the Werewolf. Fun times!

While the Oblivaeon scenario seems like a bust, the new Void Guard heroes were quite fun. Idealist especially is a blast to play. We played against Skinwalker Gloomweaver, who was an entertaining foe. We did a very good job of keeping him from getting extra card plays, and Dr. Medico's fantastic healing kept the heroes in good shape. A very fun games.

Another game night is over... Starting of only four had turned up of the 15 signing up, so we started with something relatively simple as we waited: Just as I explained the rules two more showed up - and while we were in-game a seventh attendee arrived; so we played the game to the completion - in which I was delivered the victory!

I mean you have to say Dump each time you exchange letters (1:3)! And you say Peel when you use all your letters and draw one more... And so on.

Pairs was appairently also a game that was playable for up to eight - and this I did not know much about; I just bought it because it was cheap and because of the cute art, but it is quite well.

A bit unfair the more players you play because at seven players you lose once you get nine-and-a-half point (60 divided with the amount of players + 1) - we rounded up to 10. As 10 is the highest pair you can get, and there are 10 of those cards vs three of the card numbered 3, you can lose the game in just one round - on your first turn, as you get the number equal to the pair you got.

I had some pre-gamenight gaming; also because I seem to get a headache when I play Final Doom during day time (too dark so my screen reflect and I can't see a thing so I concentrate too much, I think).

I have kind of wanted to play a WWI wargame for some time (also for the 52 Games Challenge), and I think I have three WWI wargames, but GoG have long been on my list of games I wanted to try!

It's quite good. Relatively simple, but entertaining. It was really nice to play!

I don't like that having to think 8 vs 6 - that 4 vs 3; is that 2-1 or is it 1-1? math around the combats (it's always rounded down but sometimes you have some really annoying numbers you have to calculate).

But one less game that haven't been played (It have been unplayed on my shelf since October 1st 2015).

Saw the KS for the reprint/expansion of this game and was curious, so I found a copy to order. Techno-fantasy co-op "defense" game. Much easier to play and more exciting that the other defense games we've tried (Orcs Must Die and B-Sieged). Played two tiers and won (though we were in perilous shape in both!) Looking forward to playing more.

On the downside, the base set only includes 4 heroes and you use all 4 each time, which seems lacking in variety. I got a set with the KS extras, which is another 10 heroes. Much better!
