This geeklist is connected to the 2018 Santa's Little Secret One Exchange
( More info here: ..... )

Use it to post information to augment/complement your wishlist for the exchange. Describe what you want the most, what type of games you don't enjoy, highlight specific games you'd like, highlight subject matter you're interested in, publish the link to your wishlist-geeklist etc.

Each participant needs to have his or her wishlist updated with each game the participant would like to receive as a solitaire game. Since many of us like to play multiplayer games solitaire while others may only enjoy playing games designed for solitaire, it is important to note the comment field of such games with text or symbols that stands out and makes them easy to recognize; Solo, Secret One, 1 or use 1, d10-1, 1 or 1.

Wishlist is enough but please use this space to offer extra information to your Secret One. Especially if you want to keep your profile page "clean" from any communication between you and your Secret One.

Finally, to all you Secret Ones out there, feel free to use this list for PDTs (public displays of taunting)!

Enjoy yourselves and Happy Holidays!

Since I am the exchange manager I will not participate in the exchange. If you are out of ideas for games to put on your wishlist, want help finding the perfect gift for your target or similar feel free to contact me and I will try to help as best as I can.

My wish is to complete the exchange grinch-free and if so I will repeat the offer from last year. If the exchange is completed without any grinches I will send an extra gift to at least one of the participants in the exchange...

Enjoy the exchange!

Here we are again. The Secret One Exchange.

Thanks to Jessica for running it!

My Wish List contains alot of solo goodness. A few Arkham Horror: LCG expansions/Mythos packs but also a bunch of other games. I like surprises too!! All my solo games are marked with 1 to make things easy. My wish list will be in flux until I lock it down on October 31.

Might as well do my thinking out loud.

Hi my name is Mike Hostetler. I used to be more regular here than I am now. 2018 hasn't been an easy year for me, personally, so board games (solo and otherwise) have taken a back seat. I have played more video games this year but there is something about moving bits around a board. Or laying cards down or whatever kind of game you are playing.

I've been updating/tweaking my wishlist. But I can safely say that I'm open for anything and everything. What I've been liking lately:

1 Quick games that can play 2-3 in a session (if not more)
2 Games that travel well
3 Tile-laying games
4 Deck Building

If you read this list and thought Oniverse, you are correct -- I love the 3 Oniverse games that I own (but I haven't played Sylvion as much as Castellion and Onirim).

Solo Games I've been enjoying lately:

1. Forbidden Island
2. Castellion
3. Star Realms
4. Zulus On the Ramparts
5. Solo Decktet games

Multiplayer games I enjoy solo:

A Forbidden Island
B Harbour
C DC Comics Deck-Building Game

I've also been enjoying the Fabled Lands Gamebooks. I have the first 3 books and any other books in the series are welcome.

There are a lot of designers that I like but if I'm a "groupie" for anyone it's Todd Sanders (i.e. dumarest123). I generally don't get into theme but do like the imagery he puts into this games as well as the different mechanics he adds in. They also seem to fit my niche. Excited to get his Pulp Detective from KS in the next few days!

If you need a list or more concrete ideas here are some games I've been eyeing and have yet to pull the trigger on:

1 Nautilion
2 Urbion
3 Sprawlopolis
4 Limes
5 Deep Space D-6
6 Mr. Cabbagehead's Garden

Final Note: I don't mind used games. Some of my favorite games I've found used.

Like my daughter, one time a year I'm ready to believe - because of the magic of gifts. It's so nice to give them, it's so cool to receive.

I really like surprises, and I'm ready to try any board game. I won't be put off by a theme or mechanic in advance. Having something new on the table, discovering what's good about it, going on an adventure brings me joy.

And by "new" I just mean new to me. I buy second-hand games, I have no problem at all with receiving a second hand game.

So if you happen to be my secret Santa, you might want to ask some questions and then surprise me. Or you might prefer not to chat, and that's also fine, I've put some extra stuff on my wishlist, so hopefully you'll find something there.

Anything on the wishlist would be great (just not the ones I've marked "5 - don't buy this"). Sometimes I made a note that a Dutch version exists. If you happen to buy online in/near The Netherlands I'd prefer to have that version, though English language versions of games are fine. I cannot read German or French though.

Hi everyone, Since i am from a less wellknown country (Chile) I was suggested to post an item with the info to some questions:

We have a bunch (not many) of FLGS, some with online operations, but prices are quite steep. Sometimes it's cheaper to buy in the US (amazon, miniature market... etc), and taxes shouldn't be an issue if the box is not too big or heavy.

Are there any good webshops for boardgames in chile that you can recommend?
i would recommend this:
https://www.planetaloz.cl/
http://www.guildreams.com/
https://www.warpig-games.cl/
https://movieplay.cl/

but i usually get my games from miniature market, amazon, games 365(shipping is cheap but sometimes takes 1-2 month to get the games) and planeton games
hope this info can be useful

well and some info about me:
I’ve just started exploring solo games, starting with euro games (and love them) and hoping to try some dungeon crawlers or app driven games (imperial assault, mansion of madness, descent, etc), i love games with some story, strategy or anything... (actually im ready to play any boargame)
games i really love:
Anachrony
Trickerion
Alchemists
Concordia
Shadespire
Sagrada
Pandemic
zombicide Green Horde

Thanks Jessica dor running The Secret One Exchange.

Dear Santa,

Where to begin? In general, I think I'm in a better place than this time last year. I'm coming to terms with certain things in my personal life. Doing so creates other problems for those around me but its it's all progress, of a sort.

Professionally, it's been a year of tying up some loose ends, which is good. I need to do more of that. It's also been one of stasis, however, and my day job promises to become increasingly difficult next year, due to pay and commute. I'm grateful I have it though, I'm in a much better situation than I was a couple of years ago.

What of my hobbies, though? I mean, it's boardgames you're most interested in, right? You've continued to give me some wonderful gifts, including games that are in my list of top 20 solo games. Beyond that list, though, I've been less active on BGG this year. Returning to lurking, to some extent.

As the 1PG has expanded I've found that my interactions have become more limited to the same group of people. The parallel growth of SGOYT, meanwhile, has seen me retreat from it altogether. I love that the community has grown so large and accommodates so many people but the sheer size has meant that I've found it more intimidating, as well as more onerous to keep up with. Eventually I came to terms with this, as well, starting my own 'SGOMT' geeklist in the middle of the year. I feel like I ought to give back more the the community, via SGOYT, but this list has helped keep me participating at a level I'm comfortable with right now, with many of the people who were regular SGOYT posters, when I first started, regularly commenting on my list. It's a community within a community and I'm lucky to be part of it.

Meanwhile, I was told in June that one of my game designs was going to be taken to Kickstarter, next year. That promises to bring another interesting chapter to my life and, in the meantime, the publisher invited me out to Essen this year, the first time I've attended. It can be summed up as 'a lot of people and a lot of cardboard'. I enjoyed the experience but I really don't think I would if I was attending as a punter, scrummed in the halls and sniping game demo's and purchases. It's a lot to take in.

Anyway, I've kept my profile page and wishlist up to date. I hope you find them helpful. Remember that I don't mind receiving secondhand games in good condition, or surprises you think I may like. Do ask if I can help you with anything.

I hope to hear from you soon.

Love,

Lee.

Dear Santa,
I have tried so hard to be good this year: I continued my teaching job after considering leaving the profession, I performed some weddings for free, and I allowed my mother-in-law to move into the house. I preach to my students the importance of kindness and I try to live what I preach.

Also, I tried getting a consistent game group for the first time this year (my 2018 New Year's resolution), but alas, my efforts were in vain. My schedule is just too hectic and my obligations too strong for me to have consistent game nights. However, I am very thankful for solo games this year! Nothing clears my mind and helps me recharge like an hour or two of alone time at my table. As always, I have been playing a lot of the Lord of the Rings LCG. I can never play enough of that. I have added Anachrony and Nemo's War to my collection this year and I love them! They fit right in with some of my favorites: Fields of Arle, Nations, various forms of Pandemic, and Scythe.

My tastes are getting heavier and heavier. I can't wait for my Trickerion Kickstarter to come in and I love my play of Gaia Project on one of the game nights I was able to attend. This year for Christmas, I want to explore some heavier titles by some designers who are blind spots for me, particularly Vital Lacerda and Phil Eklund. Of course, I am always up for another Rosenberg game! Not to mention, adding more to my Lord of the Rings LCG collection would be fantastic! My wishlist is updated for your perusal. Also, I do not mind used games in good condition one bit; almost all games I buy are previously owned.

But I am getting greedy, Santa. Truly, what I am looking forward to is making the holidays special for others. I have holiday events planned for my family and my students. I hope that I can add some smiles and love to the holidays. Thank you for listening, Santa. Peace.

Kevin

OMG. I forgot that I signed up for this awesome exchange, so can you imagine my surprise when an email popped up about my target?!! laugh

Woohoo! I'm here now and I'm ready to go.

My wishlist is up to date. I have added a solo die to those options that will work best for this exchange. I am constantly optimizing, so things could be added, but anything on there now is a very safe bet.

goo I have already taken a look at my target's wishlist and things are looking good.

If you are my secret Santa, thank you for participating and "choosing" me. I can't wait to chat. If you are from outside the EU, please make sure to take a look at my profile page for some info about shipping and some very good stores in Denmark or the EU. And please, if you have questions or just want to chat, reach out to me.

Off to participate! Have a very merry holiday season everyone!

P.S. I am also in the Thrifty EU Secret Santa exchange and I am contemplating the big BGG one as well (yes, I love Christmas time), so some people might be contacting you in the next weeks to ask what you have decided to gift me.

Hello Guild, and hello Santa!

This has been my first year-plus in the 1PG, and I have had a wonderful time participating and learning about my fellow solo gamers and the games they love. I did the Secret One exchange earlier this year, and it was a fantastic experience. Thank you, Jessica, for serving as our conduit to Santa.

I have been a solo gamer for only slightly longer than I've been in the guild (my long, rambling, illustrated origin story is here). In general, the games I enjoy the most have strong themes. I tend to like sci-fi and horror games (though I prefer creeping dread to zombie apocalypse), and am lukewarm-though-not-entirely-opposed to fantasy themes. My all time favorite game is Android (not to be confused with Android: Netrunner), and I've been itching to try one of its fan-made solo modes. I've recently trended a little more towards Euros, having fallen for both Spirit Island and Anachrony, both of which are wonderfully immersive. But as in all things, I try to stay open minded.

To the extent that there are some things I shy away from slightly, I generally prefer not to play games multi-handed, and would rather play games with a "true" solo mode. I try to avoid LCGs and CCGs because of the never-ending expense. I wouldn't let any particular mechanic/ism rule out a game, although I tend to prefer games that are more "beat the board/AI" than "beat your score."

I have marked my wishlist with "*Valid for Secret One*" for games I have been thinking about, but I would absolutely be open to others if Santa thinks they fit my tastes. I have rated everything a "3" for simplicity's sake. I have a few games listed that may not be available today but are set to be released soon, and I don't mind being patient if Santa prefers to take some time.

Santa, if there is anything else that you would like to know, please just ask (or taunt). Happy gaming everyone!

P.S. I have no connection to the game I added to this Geeklist- just seemed appropriate for the season of giving.

Heya Secret One,

as requested, here are the answers to your questions:

Quote:
1) Star Trek, Star Wars, Firefly, other, or none of the above? Why?

Nowadays it's easy. Firefly. I think the mixture of genres (scifi, western, adventure) and ideas (dominance of the chinese culture and language, people are fooled by the governments,...) as well as the interesting characters made me love this show and universe.

There's still a spot in my heart reserved for Star Wars, but the last few movies/spin offs left a stale taste.

When it comes to Star Trek, i only liked The Next Generation back then.

Concerning other shows - back then i also liked Babylon 5. But i think this is a good time to admit, that i like Scifi, but i love Fantasy.

Quote:
2) How old is your daughter? What is her favorite show/movie/book series/etc.?

My daughter is 5 (turns 6 in early March). Shows change every couple of weeks. In terms of movies it's a lot of Disney - especially Frozen (i suppose she's not the only five year old with this crush ). Her taste in books is also quite wide spread. Fairy tales are always interesting and there's a book series by Ravensburger (Wieso? Weshalb? Warum?), which tackles all kinds of topics in an appropriate way for children (i think she owns at least a dozen of those). She also likes games, but not all the time (which is fine by me) - if she's in the mood, we play her games (Stone Age Junior, First Orchard, Crazy Chefs,...) as well as my family games (Dream home, Augustus,...) and she sometimes even helps me with my games (she likes Boomer in Too many Bones cool).

Quote:

3) Favorite food? Do you like to cook? Is so, what?

Lasagna, and other rather spicy food. I also like to cook myself. If i do so, it's a mixture of traditional Austrian food, all kinds of international favorites as well as trying something new (although this only happens rarely, as my daughter is kind of picky when it comes to food cool).

Quote:
4) Did you participate in the Top 100 this year? Is so, what is your top 10?

Of course i did!

1. This War of Mine
2. Roll Player: Monsters & Minions
3. Terraforming Mars
4. The Pursuit of Happiness - Community
5. Port Royal: Just one more Contract
6. Legacy of Dragonholt
7. Imperial Settlers
8. Ex Libris
9. Too many Bones
10. One Deck Dungeon: Forest of Shadows

Quote:
5) When playing any form of RPG (tabletop, board, video, etc.), what class of character do you like to play?

As long as i can play a Dwarf, i'm happy with most classes, although i prefer support classes over fighters over mages/wizards...

If you have more questions, please don't hesitate to ask.

Dear Santa,

Do you know Krampus? What’s he like? Is he even a he? Anywho, thanks for being a Santa. I love the holidays. Food, fellowship, food, family, food, friends, more food and these days, lots of gaming as well (and also food). I know I’m writing this late but life has been crazy so better late than never (unless you’ve already sent your gift and in that case, you are lightning fast sir or madam). My wishlist is up to date but I know there are games out there that I want that I haven’t added to the wishlist so you don’t have to get something off of the list. Ask me anything you like to try and nail down my tastes.

My favorites lately (in no particular order) are Terraforming Mars (w/ the amazing (sorry Stephen King) fantastic Prelude expansion), Gloomhaven, Roll Player, And I just picked up everything for Too Many Bones which I am thoroughly enjoying. This year I discovered that I do like euros. I didn’t have anything against them before, I just hadn’t really played any. Castles of Burgundy, Brass: Birmingham, A Feast for Odin, and many others have hit my table and been a big hit.

So on to what I’m looking for.....I don’t know. I like a bit of everything. Theme is usually pretty important to me but not always. I love Star Wars if you couldn’t tell but there’s not a lot of good solo games to be had there. As far as expansions, I think I’m mostly caught up on the expansions I would want. No need to get me anything for AH:LCG because I have all of that in my pull and hold at my FLGS. I do like organizers and upgrading my game components. I sleeve a couple of games; AH:LCG and TM.

Time to wrap this up because I’ve rambled enough. Feel free to taunt, joke, question, or whatever else you have in mind.

Thanks for doing this and happy gifting!

PS- Tonight I bought Mansions of Madness 2nd Edition so I guess those expansions are now on the table as well. I haven’t done a ton of research on what the best ones are. I try and update my wishlist ASAP to reflect this recent acquisition.

Just to give some random thoughts to possibly help my Santa, here goes a ramble.

I'm not picky at all. Anything on my wish list is fair game, whether solo-only, solo-friendly, or not. I play solo and with my kids, so most any game you choose will get some table time. In fact, if you look through my collection and think of something that's not on my wish list - I'm fine with that, as well. My only request is as follows: I game with my kids, all of whom have some form of special needs (one on the autism spectrum, one with pretty severe anxiety/panic attacks, one with very severe dyslexia). So, if you decide to go off my list, please choose family friendly games - no adult themes, no sexualized artwork, etc.

In fact, one of my favorite games is one that my Secret One sent me last time that wasn't on my list - Fantastiqa. So, by all means, let your imagination run free.

I'm also fine with gently used games.
