Basic programming concepts are at the heart of this whimsical game for kids 4-and-up. Program your turtles to run a maze, "debug" your mistakes, and win! This game is a "one against all" game, in that the adult is meant to be assisting as the "computer", while the kids do the programming. Plus adorable turtles. Get this one, geek friends!

Take on the roles of the brave stuffies protecting their small person from evil masterminds! This game is a light RPG flavored game, where you are storytelling, exploring, and battling. The minis are adorable, and kids and parents alike will get a lot of fun out of this. Playtime is a bit on the long side for littles, at 90+ minutes per game being an average, but if your child likes games, it will be plenty engaging and time will fly by!

One of my top co-op entry level games for kids and adults alike. It's a simple game to learn, but challenging to win. Some degree of randomness keeps you on your toes. Communication is key, so work out your strategy with your team and slay those monsters before they tear down your castle walls!

A dice-chucking game with a board that will seem familiar to players of Castle Panic, but with a very different goal and theme. Players are working together to bring ingredients for a potion together into the "cauldron" in the center of the board. This game is fairly heavy on luck, as it relies on dice rolls to determine what you can and can't do. But it has some simple math built into this that could be valuable for little learners--odds, evens, and addition.

Not to be confused with a 2017 game of the same name, this is a deductive reasoning and memory game great for a wide range of ages. Scalable difficulty options for different ages, as well as to grow as the children gain more experience with the mechanics.

Lay out your tiles, set up your timer, and help guide Leo from his bed to the barber. But you only have so many hours in a day, and only so many days in a row, to complete the task before his mane gets completely out of control! A memory game with a twist, limited reading necessary, with color-matching, communication, and programming (planning turns ahead to meet the necessary conditions). Colorful, cute art, and Leo's mane puzzle is a fun little tactile touch.

Battle ghosts as they appear to haunt your treasure hunt. Search for hidden jewels while battling the waves of spirits that block your path.

Note that many players say a 3-player minimum is best, though it CAN be played at 2. If you only have two players, and find yourself struggling for wins, perhaps consider having a third player that is controlled by both players?

I feel like savvy kids of younger ages can grok this game well. You are a team of explorers trying to unearth hidden relics on an island that is sinking. Will you get all the treasures and all of your team to the heli-pad to escape before the ocean overtakes the land?

There are asymmetrical powers in this game, so everyone takes on a different role to help drive the team to victory. I'd put this in the 7+ category depending on the child (listed as 10+). YMMV based on your kid's interests and attention span.

You play as a team of firefighters trying to put out fires and rescue people and pets from the building. Smoke turns to flame, flames grow and eventually spread to other parts of the buildings, damaging the structure and blocking ready paths through the house. Your crew must plan their turns together to save the day! There are simpler rules for younger families, and more advanced rules to grow into, plus multiple expansions if your family enjoys it and wants more in the future. Plays up to 6 players.

NOTE: Depending on the sensitivity of your child, the aspects of people in burning buildings may be a bit heavy, though it is treated very lightly in the theme. Just mention it as a "keep in mind."

This is a game about collecting ingredients in the wild, for both food and medicine. While not a primer in actual herbalism, kids will potentially learn some basic plant identification in the course of playing this game. Work cooperatively to help grandma bake, as well as make remedies for yourself to come home happy and healthy!

I admit, I have no experience with this game, but in researching the games I have experience with, I came across this one. The theme looks great, the art looks great, and the price is so right at about $13 on Amazon as of this writing. It is said to be "7th Samurai meets blackjack", with crisis-management gameplay. Note that reviewers say this game is easy enough to learn but HARD to win.

A little on the young side of the spectrum, but I wanted to make sure I had some stuff for little-littles as well. Play your tiles to collect keys and beat the ogre to the treasure. Dice rolling and communication combine to keep the little treasure hunters on the run to the end.

Apparently this has been around since 1985, but there was a release in 2018 that has come across my radar. Bonus: it upgraded from a candle to a tiny little LED lamp! I loved anything and everything in the dark as a kid, and I would have loved this game. One-against-all gameplay with one game master controlling the lamp and the "Shadowlings" trying to find their way through the shadows, avoiding the light beams between the trees, to gather together and win. Glow in the dark die? Even better!
