Four usual suspects today, not sure if this was an extra or a regular meetup. It seemed a little less busy in the shop today with regards to general attendance. Some heavy gaming was enjoyed.

First up today was this Martin Wallace classic in reprinted form. I was new to it and the others had all played before,a albeit once for Micah and Tim.

Building factories in the industrial revolution is no easy business. Godfrey got a good lead in the canal era, but also had a decent base from which to progress come the age of steam, and managed to hang on for the win. Micah took some major loans out early on and had a strong finish with ships. Tim got rid of his poor buildings and had a good solid income base. I didn’t have much of a clue never mind a strategy and finished a very distant last.

Deep strategy game that definitely would reward experienced players. It’s not especially intuitive and board position is more important than I realised initially.

Look forward to playing again.

Another one new to me. Don’t be deceived by the cute meeples and twee artwork this is a wargame.
Here is my take on how this played out, interested to hear how others saw it:
Animal factions fighting over the woods that have been taken over by the cats (Godfrey). Initial board presence and plenty of territory saw the cats build up a formidable looking army but they distracted by the Woodland Alliance (Tim) and never got to use their numerical advantage. Seemed to find it difficult to score points. Not helped by the Vagabonds (Micah) allying with them and then moving their forces around.

The Woodland Alliance scored points freely, but should have been more aware of the dangers posed by the Eerie (me) who were largely left alone to spread out around the edges of the woods. The Eerie’s ability to break ties is a huge benefit but it wouldn’t have taken much to break their “decree” and stop them in their tracks.

I’m not sure about the Vagabond, seemed to score consistently, liked the cats despite being maltreated by them regularly and made enemies of the Eerie but didn’t make much inroads against them.

Cool game, not one I’d buy as it’s a bit too much war game for me to get it played much, but I’d really like to explore this further. There’s a lot of game in here and plenty of scope for expansion.

A very nicely presented trick taking game. We only got to play a few hands. Safe to say this likely won’t get much play at BGA, more of a family game. Should prove to be an introductory trick taking game.
