Welcome to
Solitaire Games on Your Table
January 2019

The Home of “Together, We Game Alone”

Before anything else,

HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!

and welcome to another year of awesome solo gaming.

Guidelines

1 PLAY a solo game, a solo variant, or a multiplayer game solo.
2 Add an entry to this GeekList and tell us about it. Get the most out of the SGOYT Aggregator by using at least one of the following tags:

1 Add the <summary></summary> tag to include a short overview.
2 Add the <rating></rating> tag to rate a game on a scale of 0.5 to 5.0. Only the most recent rating for a game is recorded.
3 Be nice, but most of all have fun!
4 See something you like? Give it a thumb.

It's extremely helpful (but not mandatory) to include some thumbsup and thumbsdown describing the pros and cons of the game you played. They're great visual aids to summarize your post, and might help to keep the wallet damage down a bit!

About Me

Hi! some of you may have recognized me post in SGOYT and the 1PG forums, now here I am. I started joining this hobby on the last quarter of 2017 and sooner after that I found this awesome guild. Since then I've been lurking, occasionally posting and researching of what games I need to add to my collection.

So this month is the start of a new year and a new beginning.

Board Gaming Resolutions

Our theme for this month is of course, Resolutions, resolutions, resolutions...this may sound cliche but we all are man of habits, sad to say we may have developed some not-so-nice habits this year, and deep down we need to change some of that. Personally, my most obvious habit that I need to correct is my overuse of smartphone, I don't play games with it, I just browse for hours on end. So it's keeping me from playing board games and reading books. In line with this month's theme, I'd like you to share a bad habit that you will change in the coming year and shiny will be given to those who shared.

All GG donated to this post will be given away this month.

Still had this set up from last night and it is very quick to reset so gave it another go this evening. I chose a different solo achievement card and played on normal difficulty. I again would need 45 points, but needed to have 35 points before counting the points in my past pile. That certainly makes for a different challenge.

Because of the differing victory requirements, I concentrated more on events and characters that generated fortune points rather than pushing characters and locations into the past. I was able to amass 41 fortune points before adding my 9 past points and 1 point for my leftover basic resources (you get one point for each five and I had eight left). So I had a total score of 51 for the victory. Once again I would have lost playing on hard as I would have needed 55 fortune points with 45 coming before counting my past.

I really like how the different solo achievements cause you to use different strategies to generate points. This is a really solid solo experience and I find it engaging and fun.

Tonight is almost Friday and i decided to play Mage Knight Solo Conquest.
What i like about MK is that setup takes no more than 5 minutes. It is with 3h of gameplay! Just amazing.

So my starting map looks okay: 1 rampaging enemy with 4 EXP (so i can level up) and Keep which should be doable.

I got enough movement to move and block some damage from catapult so took no wounds and killed it turn 1, then i took a keep (+2 wounds) and recruited level 2 silver unit:

I like Shocktroops very much. It is very flexible unit which plays good late game.

So at the end i discovered 2 cities (red level 5 and blue level 8) and was able to took them last day and then last night.

OOP of this game was Into the Heat combo:

Which buffed my units

So at the end i got +3 any attack, +3 any block for all my units from Into the Heat.

Also worth notice Sparing Power which i love to use during city assault.

You can stack almost all of your deck under it and then assault city which is so powerful.

So i won, great game as always!

At the end bonus picture, thanks for reading!

Got in 2 plays of Viticulture last night. A few others posting about it in SGOYT and I just had to bring it out.

I played a normal automa game to get used to it since I haven’t played it solo in a while. I squeaked in a win with 21 points. I never felt like I had it together and it took me till turn 4 or 5 to get a first customer fulfilled.

Then, I went for the campaign mode again. I had fizzled out on this at campaign play #3 a couple of years ago and I’m determined to finish it now. I restarted it at #1 and drew the automa. I know the strategy I wanted to employ and I was pretty successful but I just couldn’t find an extra point anywhere. I’ll be trying it again in the next few days!

Second days in a row a play Mage Knight!
Solo Conquest again.

Starting position was interesting - no rampaging enemies nearby but mage tower and keep.

I did not manage to get mage tower first turn but hired bandits unit in village nearby. They helped me get a keep and then mage tower.

I managed to get 3 mage towers and 3 keeps this game plus bought some spells which ended up with deck full of spells.

Next thing i need for them is mana so i focused on getting mana crystals and mana generating action cards.

Underground travel spell helped me a lot moving around so easily.

So last day i took green level 5 city and last night i took white level 8 city. Victory!

Great game.

P.S. As always bonus picture

Finished January off with this fun little Print and Play! Had a few good games and successfully defended my lair each time. Excited to be a part of SGOYT and can't wait to continue to contribute!
