"Several times over the past few years I have mentioned Caudillo (pronounced “caw-DEE-yo“), a 2-5 player card game I designed three years ago on power politics in the fictional Latin American country of Virtualia, after the departure from power of its strongman leader Jesus Shaves (pronounced “hay-sus sha-bezz“)."
"The game was of course about a thinly-disguised post-Chavez Venezuela (though in 2013 it wasn’t post-Chavez yet), and just to drive it home, its original title was Dios o Federacion, a takeoff on “Dios y Federacion”, the national motto of Venezuela."
Today was release day. Went to Target because it showed as available. Searched shelves but could not find it. Not even a spot for it. Asked staff who checked stock number then said, “Oh, they’re still in the back. Want me to get one for you?”
Read Rulebook online and played tutorial. Interface is decent; occasional bad moves more my fumble-fingers than poor design. Some complain of slow AI. I don’t notice as I am still slow taking in board state.
Will have to wait until end of our Scythe: The Rise of Fenris campaign to get to the table but once it does the addition of new rules & alternate approaches to play should keep Scythe epic for many plays to come.
