So .. yeah .. shameless self promotion

Being cut off from my regular work the entire previous month I was busy finding and comparing printing companies ..
Looks like I found a company able to craft gaming stuff like, books, boxes, mats, boards - and the higher the item count the better the price ..

So I started by sending files for the favourite of my own games to their printer..

Let's see, how it turns out ..

(Oh - hey - are you interested in a battlemat? Look at the beautiful CatZmatZ: https://store.catzeyes.de )

As I mentioned in the February list, this one is spilling into this month. I have all the sheet printed except the map & rule book. Everything is coated (polyurethane) and prepped for gluing. That should happen this weekend, then the cutting begins.

Update: Progress! Got all the card/cardboard bits fabricated over the weekend. The manual cut stuff went easily & came out great. The Cricut-cut stuff is usable, but shows I need to get the machine calibrated. I should have thought of it earlier and it's closer than it was, but I still need to fiddle with the settings to get it to cut exactly where I want. The bonus goods photo really shows the issue here. Right now I'm not sure if I want to re-build these parts or use them as-is.

Just need to build the board and print & bind the rule book. Then order the wooden pieces.

Update: I have almost all the pieces ordered. Just need to find a good first player marker. I ended up going with some domestic suppliers even though Spielmaterial had everything I really wanted--it's just the prohibitive shipping killed that. I'll have white pawns instead of grey and be happy.

Okay. I’m finally going to make Haze Islands. I actually printed and cut the cards last year so I just need to laminate them to be finished. So, pretty sure it will get made this March.

I also want to make Marooned!, which has also been printed and cut. I’m sure I’ll craft some smaller games too.

Hey guys

I just wanted to show you this ..

10 years ago I typed down the rules for this game. It's plain, it's simple, it's generic - and people still contribute after all this time. Like today:

I came into possession of a candy box that's a very nice tin the size of a VHS cartridge. Not only that, it's hinged on the side.

And it was for Batman Valentine's chocolate hearts.

Is there a PNP Batman game? I'd like something of the nature of Star Trek: The Dice Game or Deep Space D6. But of course, Batman.

I'm not finding one. Seems a shame to waste the box and not be able to find something minty.

Oh, and I have one for Iron Man, in the shape of a heart, but it has no hinge.

Too cool to waste. And yes, I'll post a pic this weekend.

#Dune: Board Game PnP (artwork by Ilya Baranovsky).

d10-1 120 double sided army tokens + 12 faction tokens, everything printed on sticker for laser printers, but I have printed it on ink printer so they are desaturated. Sticked to 15mm wooden tokens. Stickers cutted with hole punch.

d10-2 Many, many cards. 10 decks. Twice 160g paper, glued with glue stick and sleeved.

d10-3 Map. Cardboard 1,5mm + sprey varnish. 6 parts. I've resized it, so it's bigger than normal board. Quality looks same.

d10-4 Box 1,5mm cardboard 300x300x70. Cover art made by Dan Mumford, bottom by Matt Griffin.

d10-5 Simple insert from cardboard, there is a little place for possible expansion. Cards are very tight, becouse of mistake on measurement, but nothing exploded.

d10-6 Box for sipce tokens. 3 colors of crystals. Yellow, orange, brown. Last two are very simillar, I hope there will be no probem.

d10-7 Boxes for army tokens and fraction tokens. Fraction tokens are 25mm on 1,5mm cardboard. Maybe will make it bigger. I still don't know if I will make leaders tokens (I have leaders cards). Both Spice and army boxes made from some tough and slim cardboard made to protect comic books.

d10-8 Combat wheels. 1 piece for every faction. 2 pieces of 2mm cardboard. Strong as hell. NT Cutter is a miracle. Thanks guys!

d10-9 Rulebook.

Started this a couple weeks ago and got busy. I didn’t like the redraw cards, no cutting guides for most of the cards, and they are tiny cards anyway. Now I’m composing larger, full-art cards. Found a nice wooden box with a sliding lid. Pix later.

Nothing fancy for me, also first time posting here. I hope it's okay to share this game as it's not really a PnP (you can buy this game) and I'm not really a crafty person...

was so kind to share the PnP files with me so that I can make this game for myself (as shipping from US is, unfortunately, really expensive).

I'll print these out and cut them as best as I can (that's about the extent of my craftiness) blush

I actually built this pnp back in February but was waiting for copies of the photos before posting it. Since I just added it to my pnp geeklist today I'm posting it here in March, or I'll get confused later.

LIVE GAME OF CLUE!!!

Both my husband and one of my brothers turned 40 this year. For everyone's 40th birthday we hold a big party. For this one my brother wanted to play a live game of Clue!

Side note: I love planning game parties and over the years have done a Halloween game party, Christmas game Party, and even a live Escape the Room game. It's a very creative, fun process for me!

Each player picked a character and had to dress up accordingly. I let family choose from a list of characters from the expanded version, Clue Master Detective, and other versions.

FULL DETAILS about the redesign, build, gameplay, the FINAL answer, and more photos are on my PNP Geeklist post.

But here are a few images for this post:

From gallery of lovemyfire

DANG IT! I missed a room! However, after putting it all together I didn't want to redo everything so I just added it by hand. I was too tired to care at that point.

From gallery of lovemyfire

I made the cards using 65lb linen paper, spray sealed with Mod Podge Matte, folded, glued with Scotch Super77 Spray, and let sit overnight.

From gallery of lovemyfire

The cards turned out great and were a hit at the party!

Instead of a gameboard we setup little tables for each room around a gym floor. My crafty mother made the room signs that were set on each table- so adorable!

From gallery of lovemyfire

Family helped come up with the weapons. I brought the wrench and poison. I was especially pleased with the latter because of the custom label I made and the awesome bottle I found.

File Sharing

Unfortunately, I won't be sharing the files as the art is not mine and I don't know who the original creator is or how to contact them. Sorry!

FULL DETAILS about the redesign, build, gameplay, the FINAL answer, and more photos are on my PNP Geeklist post.

Love making characters with my daughter in the base game, but looking forward to being able to beat up on some monsters with the expansion.

I got the PnP files from their web site, on sale currently for only $10. Will get it put together sometime in March.

With this way out of print and the more recent The King Is Dead also not available I wanted to try my hand at crafting a version.

I'm intending to use the King of Dune that was linked here - https://boardgamegeek.com/thread/1414324/king-dune-retheme

I have some 3mm thick x 75mm across wooden hexagons (MDF) which I will use for the modular board, sticking on the above print pdf and then laminating or protecting them somehow. I need some coloured vehicles, at the moment I only have some wooden cubes which will work but are not evocative.

Not sure of which box I will use either.

PnP files available in the files section of the BGG page.

1-4 player tile laying game.
Players take it in turn to score points by extending and completing Otto's arms, whilst also laying other sea creature tiles for various bonuses and effects.

Printer Materials:
61 Tiles
1 Board
4 Score Tracks
4 Score Pawns
2 Reference Sheets

TILES
50pt chipboard. Only two sheets worth tiles, so wasn't too difficult. Took my time with the cuts and they are pretty uniform in size.

From gallery of Brazillb2

BOARD
24pt chipboard. The board is in two pieces but there is a nice overlap for lining up the two halves. Cut and taped for a nice quarter fold (though the cuts don't line up perfectly, oh well).

From gallery of Brazillb2

SCORE TRACKS & PAWNS
Used 24pt for the tracks and 50pt for the pawns. I thought the added thickness for the pawns would makes them easier to move. Rounded the corners so no sharp edges. I might draw some arrows on the tracks because they are in a snake pattern instead of a normal left to right. It's probably easier for sliding the score pawn but could cause a little confusion.

From gallery of Brazillb2

REFERENCE SHEETS
24pt chipboard. Rounded the corners.

THOUGHTS
A solid medium build. I took a mini hiatus from PnPs for my periodic box making. I tend to just leave my PnPs in ziplock bags until too many pile up. I just don't like making boxes all that much. But I'm back! Starting out March with this kids game to play with the nieces. Hoping the ocean creatures pique their interest. Seems easy enough for them to learn.

Long-overdue build of this 1-5 player, 30-60 minute, medium complexity, dice placement, engine building game with lovely cartoon machine art.

From gallery of DrHenryArmitage

This is the free PnP version, which had four Blueprint cards with missing artwork (Replicator, Solar Array, University and Cryo Lab) . I found some suitable graphics online to resolve the issue.

From gallery of DrHenryArmitage

Cards made the usual way, plain paper front and back, card stock core, spray glued with 3M Super 77 glue. Rust-o-leum spray clear gloss enamel coating. Metal, energy and resource tokens are sticker labels adhered to poker chips. Dice insets cut into the player cards.

From gallery of DrHenryArmitage

Played my first solo game against The Machine. I am impressed with the elegant simplicity of this game’s solo mode. Unfortunately, The Machine raced off to an early lead in the Blue Production-type buildings, manufacturing 12 goods in 12 straight turns to trigger game end. The Machine wins with brutal efficiency.

From gallery of DrHenryArmitage

Edit: decided to upgrade my thin, flimsy player cards with a snazzy new Player Board from images posted in the game's Facebook WIP group. Old player cards on left, spiffy Player Board (mounted on chipboard) on right.

By the way, I love that the solo AI is named "The Machine". Reminds me of this classic stand-up comedy bit by comic Bert Kreischer (Warning: foul language):

Keep it up PnPer's! Let's make it an epic March!

20. Board Game: Blokus Duo [Average Rating:6.84 Overall Rank:983]
Board Game: Blokus Duo

Not a full PNP but more of an adjustment of an existing game. Although the original Blokus is a very fine game, we've always had several issues with it at home (from the most annoying to the least):

-> the biggest box in our collection that never seemed to fit on the shelf;
-> 4 player game less interesting than 2 player (in our opinion);
-> hard to find 4 people ready to play anyway;
-> we somehow lost the 1x2 blue piece.

So I finally decided to do something about this. I cut the board to the 14x14 size of Blokus duo, drilled two holes to indicate starting squares and made a simple wooden frame to it. The bottom of the box slides out so that it is possible to store the pieces and the rules inside. Not really a woodworking masterpiece but it does the trick.

PnP files available on the publisher website.

1-5 player take that game.
In this fast-playing card game, players scheme, battle and steal to be the first to collect 21 doubloons. Each turn either draw a card or play a card - cards can be played as either treasure or as an action.

Printer Materials:
47 Playing Cards
2 Other Cards

CARDS
I went with these simple Bicycle cards because I learned that Scuttle! can be combined with Ninjitsu (which I'll be building next). I also decided to use different cards for the Davy Jones and Pirate Robot cards as they are only used in specific game modes and aren't shuffled in regardless.

THOUGHTS
Super easy build for a super light game. Though there is a bit of reading on the cards, I'm sure my nieces will have no problems playing with some help. I'm slightly interested in the solo play (solo on a take that game? that's wild!) but that wasn't the main focus of this build.

I adapted the components for Bridgette Showdown with origami d6s and d8s!

More interestingly, I posted the steps to fold these dice here -- hopefully you could use them for your games!

A solo or 2p game, which sounds like a good fit for gaming with my 5 year old son. He can help me play solo, and later when he's older maybe we can play 2p. I had an idea in mind of butterfly migration, when this game was made. Might still try the butterfly migration idea.

Printing this up at 87% size in the hopes of cramming it into a mint tin. And, if nothing else, it'll fit on a smaller table.

UPDATE: And the results are in, the game fits! The corners had to be more rounded than I would have liked, but I think the durability of the container makes it worth it. I think expansions might have to be in a separate tin though. There's a little space, but perhaps not enough for more folded paper instructions.

What can I say? It's a Garthwaite crafting extravaganza over here. With Snowbirds, Certain Stars caught my attention as a neat theme with an elegant design and accessible instructions. I must have picked right because my son was asking to play before I was even finished cutting out the cards.

Board Game: Certain Stars

I modified the box sticker a bit to extend around the sides, like my others, so I can identify the game while stacked. There was just enough space in the tin to cut the tokens in rounds and sticker some Othello pieces.
