I am not in school, thankfully. Nor do I have young humans in school. But the stores are filled with school supplies and people acting extra crazy. And the summer hiatus for many of my recurrent meetings has ended (much sadness here). And really I'm just making up reasons because I feel like running another kindness challenge.

To enter: Add an item to this geeklist, perform an act of kindness each day for a week, and keep track of what you do each day. It is possible to do this 4 times before the challenge ends. If you choose to participate more than once, create a new geeklist item for each week. Each completed week (geeklist item) counts as one entry for the giveaway.

Your daily acts can be small or large - check out the previous challenges in Hedgehog kindness challenge subscription list for some ideas.

Prizes:
Grand prize winner: One person will be chosen as the "grand prize" winner (likely via a die roll). If the person lives in the United States (all 50 states) or Puerto Rico, they can choose to receive a game costing up to $40 from Amazon for me to send them or a Gamer Glass dragon of their color choice. Elsewhere can choose to receive a gift certificate of the equivalent of $40 for a local retailer (online or FLGS, as long as I can easily purchase it), or a Gamer Glass dragon of their choice. Free shipping worldwide is included in the prize.

Additionally, the winner will get to choose one of the following charities to receive a $150 donation:
charity:water
Ali Forney LGBT kids shelter
• Winner's local food bank
• Winner's local homeless shelter

Second prize: The second prize winner will win 100 geekgold,, courtesy of Nicolai Broen Thorning, and gets to choose one of the above charities to receive a $100 donation.

Third prize: The third prize winner will win 50 geekgold, courtesy of Nicolai Broen Thorning, and gets to choose one of the above charities to receive a $50 donation.

Three different people will be chosen for the prizes.

Finally, if you participate and do not yet own Microbadge: “A single act of kindness throws out roots in all directions, and the roots spring up and make new trees.” ― Amelia Earhart, I will gift you 8gg to purchase it and wear it during this month.

Deadline to enter: Wednesday, September 4th, 2019, at 4pm EST. Your geeklist item must have 7 days with acts of kindness listed by this time to count.

What a great chance to be creative in kindness! Thanks for doing this again. It feels really good to help people and share it with others.

Day 1, Aug 10: I helped a friend that had some work to do, by taking her kid to my house for a few hours. Me and my daughter had another friend to play with.
Day 2, Aug 11: I gave my car to my husband for a few days.
Day 3, Aug 12: I helped a friend with her English lesson.
Day 4, Aug 13: Gave 4 books to a friend's daughter.
Day 5, Aug 14: Invited some friends at home and cooked for them.
Day 6, Aug 15: This was a big day of celebration here in Greece. I took care of my nephews, so their parents could relax for a couple of hours.
Day 7, Aug 16: A friend visited my hometown and asked me to help her buy some gifts, so I drove and took her to my favourite bookstore and some other stores around the area.

Just finished 7 days of kindness!!! meeple

Getting ready for week 2:

Day 1: Monday 19.08:
Helped a collegue at a meeting, and afterwards when we needed to discuss something difficult with the boss.

Day 2: Tuesday 20.08:
A collegue was frustrated about a situation. I talked to her about it, comforted her and offered her a hug.

Day 3: Wednesday 21.08:
A friend wanted to learn cross stitch, so I invited her over so she could learn from me.

Day 4: Thursday 22.08:
A new member of our swim group participated on his first practice day. I introduced myself, told him a bit about how the group works, who to talk to for help, time we swim, and all. During the practice I stopped by him to check how he was doing, and talking a bit with him to get to know him a bit. He seemed to appreciate that.

Day 5: Friday 23.08:
A frustrated collegue (again), who needed a pep talk. She was happy I could help

Day 6: Saturday 24.08:
Invited a friend to lunch and paid for her meal. Then I took her for coffee.

Day 7: Sunday 25.08:
A girl that was swimming against me was afraid and stressed by that fact. I talked with her about it, so she wouldn`t fear it, made sure she focused only on herself. Also cheered on some girls that were nervous for their competition.

Week two!
Sun: Sleepless night with my teething son in my arms, so everyone else could get some sleep.
Mon: Finally cut back a ton of the bushes around our property line, and took care of some for the neighbors too. We all know it’s hard to find time and energy.
Tues: Got books together to donate to the “Friends of the Library” bookstore while searching for a old video games to sell online.
Wed: Didn’t bite the dentist while she was fixing a filling. robot And if that doesn’t count... worked on fixing stone wall that the builders broke when they fixed our driveway, because it is an eyesore for neighbors.
Thurs: Gave a repeat customer a really good deal on some board games, because they’ve always been more gracious than others.
Fri: Tried to orchestrate a big hang out for a group we haven’t seen in a while. Didn’t happen due to lots of differing opinions, but we tried and will do so again.
Sat: Changed plans four times to help keep my daughter (3) from feeling overwhelmed, as she was having a rough day since she didn’t sleep well due to her little brother (1) keeping us all up having his own hard time due to teething. Modeling patience, and all that.

I think I might have used that game already. Also hope it's ok to start with August 5th...

d10-1August 5: Went through some old wood working projects, and decided to give them to friends as gifts rather than sell them. It was a mug holder, and a garden stool.

d10-2August 6: Wife has been stressing out over Saturday. She took the kids out. I cleaned the house. We have things split what we do... I did her whole list.

d10-3August 7: Went through a bunch of our kids cloths, and the stuff that we didn't need we donated. It was toy and cloths, that I donated to a food bank. I know sounds odd, but they lost their minds when I called saying I had this stuff. The food bank has 6 expecting mothers that need cloths, diapers, etc. I made a trip to Target, and picked up a bunch of new born diapers as well.

d10-4August 8: I surprise my oldest son (He is almost 4) with his power wheels (we got him a jeep). He looked sad thinking he was only going to be in the back yard with it. Let him take the sucker everywhere. He killed the battery completely!

d10-5August 9: Wife was stressing out about Saturday. I keep minding the kids and keep them away from her for the most part. Also helped her with dinner, and made dinner for her friend that was helping her make food for Saturday.

d10-6August 10: Saturday... You have been reading about it... why is it so big. My father in law's Celebration of Life service. My wife has been a mess for most of the week, as I have.. but I am trying to hold it all together. Anyway, after the Eulogy I share a couple of stories that make EVERYONE in the room laugh their butts off. I know my father in law would have rather had smiles than tears. I should have shared the heartfelt, the touching and the loving moments I had with him... but I went with humor, because we all needed it.

Not only that, I offer my support to an old friend, as his father was diagnosed with cancer, same thing that took my father in law. Cancer Sucks... if you didn't know that already.

d10-7August 11: I told my wife I was taking the boys out so she didn't have to come outside. She did anyway. She ended up getting a nap in during nap time, as when the oldest woke up, I brought him right back outside. Stress was lifted off the house. Rather than tell him not to touch anything. I gave him some scrap wood (I was wood working as well), and told him to make something with it. Normally we wouldn't do this, but today... why not. He built a cool little foundation for "his house", daddy helped.

Day 2, Aug 12: Took the kids with me and did my husband's errands so he could have a little alone time. Made a bundt cake for the family.
Day 3, Aug 13: Did the Laundry and the dishes, cleaned up my kids mess for them without making them help.
Day 4, Aug 14: Brought a piece of cake to my Dad and stayed for 2 hours talking to my Mom, she's been having a tough time and needed a chat.
Day 5, Aug 15: Mended/altered a stack of my daughter's clothes and made a few toys for her and my son.

Going for week 2!

Sunday, August 11: Even though I was really sore from all the weeding yesterday and my husband told me to rest, I went out and helped him with the remaining garden planting/harvesting chores so he would have some company.

Monday, August 12: Even though I was in the mood to watch some stuff on Amazon Prime, I suggested that my husband play some video games to relax since he's been stressed at work.

Tuesday, August 13: Rescued (with my husband's help) a mouse that had gotten into the house and been caught in the middle of the night by my excellent hunter, Purrcilla. We got it away from her and released it outside. Not sure if it was injured too badly but as long as it stays far away from in our house, it's got a better shot at living than it would have.

Wednesday, August 14: Set in motion a plan to help an online friend (who recently learned her mom has cancer and who will miss out on KA-Con even though she already bought the tickets) feel more like she was able to attend. I printed up cards that the attendees can sign for encouragement/love and I will be carrying her badge around that weekend with me and taking pictures of various people holding it like they were meeting her. Another attendee is going to put the raffle tickets that were purchased into the bags for the items that the missing person is interested in and will send any prizes she wins, along with the items I'm handling and the swag bag attendees get to the person. So even though she can't be there with us in person, she'll be with us in spirit!

Thursday, August 15: Broke down the boxes from our Chewy shipment while they were on the front steps and put them directly into the recycle bin rather than bringing them into the house, where my husband would end up having to bring them out with other recycling. Bagged my own groceries while my husband was paying, so that the line behind us would move more quickly.

Friday, August 16: Helped a new CSA member out in the pick your own fields. The gentleman and his young son were totally excited about picking the cherry tomatoes but didn't know about ground (husk) cherries and how yummy they are. So I gave them some I had picked to taste and when they were excited about the taste, I took the time to show them the proper way to pick ripe ones.I love making sure that new members learn about everything they're eligible to pick because it adds so much additional food (and value) to their share. Plus, getting kids excited about fruits and veggies young might help them live healthier lives in the long term.

Saturday, August 17: Pulled together a bunch of kitchen/household goods we had spares of to give my nephew who just got his first full-time job in NYC and is getting an apartment in NJ. Also stopped at the local Savers to drop off some clothes and stuff and bought enough flatware for him to have 8 place settings worth so he doesn't have to rush to do dishes.

On to week 2...

Week 2
Day 1, Aug 11: We gave some of our fish to a friend, who wanted to start an aquarium. That plus stones, plants and tips.
Day 2, Aug 12: I donated to one of the few independent newspapers in Denmark, as they try to increase their subscriber base and stay afloat.
Day 3, Aug 13: I made a surprise visit to my in-laws, first time in a while.
Day 4, Aug 14: Since he family was craving socks, I spent 1 hour sorting all the lonely socks bags (2 full plastic bags).
Day 5, Aug 15: Someone had put plastic in the paper-recycling container, so I cleaned out the plastic.
Day 6, Aug 16: I ordered my wife to go to bed early and prepared dinner for the rest of us (she cooks, I clean, normally). She has an undefined continous headache.
Day 7, Aug 17: I took my brothers dog, and my parents, and our "own" for a good walk on the beach, so his would be tired before the 5 hour drive home.

Week 2 in the books. I know much is centred on my family, but I am a very introvert person with mental health issues, so I don't go out, nor socialize much.

Week Two

Day 1 Aug 12th Continued to organise books to donate and then decided to go through my clothes to also donate to local op shop .

Day 2 Aug 13 Stayed up late talking to my adult son on phone as he had had a hard incident at work he wanted to talk through and process (has a hard job which can be dangerous)

Day 3 Aug 14 Had a friend over and helped her fill out her exemption to homeschool..she has just pulled out her special needs girl to homeschool due to bullying etc .Showed her options to use and loaned her science curriculum .

Day 4 Aug 15 Have organised curriculum and books to give to my friend for her daughter to get her started. Am also in process of sending an email with links that will be helpful to her for printables to use ,help with learning disabilities etc( as I have experience in this with my kids )

Day 5 Aug 16th. Went to visit a friend for morning tea as she had asked me over ... and I took her a friendship card and gift...just to say thanks for being such a great friend, only to find out she had made me a lovely little cross stich of two old fashioned ladies walking together that said "You and I" and she had also made some fudge to take home for my husband and girls! SO, I too ended up being blessed with unexpected kindness today ..

Day 6 Aug 17th Made a big salad for family to take to Church dinner tonight even though I was not planning on going due to a very sore foot and did not feel like doing it..in the end I did go whilst doped up with pain killers at my daughters request and am glad I went.

Day 7 Aug 18th After Church today we went grocery shopping and while there picked up a treat for my Mum ..some Chocolate that I know she will love.

August 17: Took my daughter out for a driving lesson
Talked to my lonely friend for an hour plus

August 18: Gave a friend free (and sound) financial advice and got her panic under control.

August 19: Walked over to Mom's in the pouring rain to visit and make sure she took her meds and had everything she needed. Also to feed the cat...

August 20: Bought a box of creamers for a coworker so he could share the thermos of coffee I always bring. He usually gets some from the deli but they were out today. Now he has a stash (I don't use creamer)

August 21: Asked the pharmacist about an issue someone else is having to calm her mind

Aug. 15th: Even though I'm tired from working 10 hours today, I'm watching the boys so my wife can get out of the house by herself for a little while.
Aug. 16th: All our work carts were having issues so I spent the morning working on all of them out in the rain so my coworkers could stay inside.
Aug. 17th: Wife didn't get as much sleep last night as she would have liked so I took the older three boys out for the day so her and the baby could get some rest.
Aug. 18th: Even though I had a long, frustrating day, the wife has been wanting some furniture rearranged. The hardest part was actually having to move some shelving on the wall. Also gave my oldest three boys haircuts for school so the wife wouldn't have to take them anywhere.
Aug. 19th: Held various doors open for various peoples.
Aug. 20th: We have some outside contractors staying on property for a few days so I took the time to introduce them to our town and give them a few ideas of what they can do and where is best to eat in the area.
Aug. 21st: An old friend of my wife's died a week ago, leaving behind a husband with two boys. So we set them up with school supplies and clothes. We also donated some of our youngest son's toys that he's outgrown (i.e. walker, activity table, crib hangers, etc.) to someone off Facebook.

August 15 - texted some family members and told them I loved them.

August 16 - My twin boy's birthday - took them out of school for lunch.

August 17 - Traveled out of town to wish a friend of mine a happy birthday at a party of his. Also befriended a new gaming buddy who recently moved to my town.

August 18 - Helped my mother with some "honey dos" at her home.

August 19-20 - (Counting both these days as only one) Didn't have any free time outside of work. Had to dig up a water line that burst at home. Thankfully we can turn off the outside water whilst we have water inside. But roots are a pain to try and dig into. Borrowed a pick-shovel from a friend and Oh! What a difference! Still took a while to get down to the base while trying not to break any other water lines. We're finalizing getting our house ready to sell, and went out of my way to complement the great job my wife had done in getting the house ready.

August 23-24 - Had the scouts come over and camp in our backyard. The local service organization I belong to (Optimist Club of Porterville) had a bunch of tents from a cancer camp we put on a few years ago. We are donating those tents to the scout. Anyhow, the tents were not put away properly - poles we separated from the tents. So the scouts spent the night/morning finding the poles that go with the tents and tossing the ones that we couldn't figure out. I put up a movie for the scouts and served them popcorn and popsicles (now that I'm looking at it, I should have also served them soda pop!).

August 25 - My wife had multiple meetings yesterday. While she was at the meetings I got the kids ready for church and got dinner made (Hamburgers, mac & cheese, and watermelon).

Week 2
Sunday - Volunteered to clean up after dinner and everything so brother can go play his current favorite video game

Monday - Surprised brother with steamed corn that was on sale when he came home.

Tuesday - Volunteered to shift and rearrange my location a few time during class to accommodate people who needed the wall in a crowded yoga class. It's a new experience as I'm used to fewer classmates and a larger space at a previous studio.

Wednesday - Helped to figure out together an online scheduling system with the substitute teacher. (The owner was on vacation.)

Thursday - I don't know if this counts or not. I was kind and pleasant when declining a cold call at my doorstop to paint my house.

(I usually don't open my door to salespeople but the man had pounded so urgently and quickly. From the peephole, with his back to the door, I thought the man was my elderly neighbor having an emergency with him or his wife. I flung the door to see this older salesman crowning and wearing similar clothes to my neighbor. Now, even though this salesman took time to point out the specifics of the sorry state of my house and took the time to call me "dear", I politely and kindly let him down firmly but gently.

It was a kindness to him and me. While he gave me a fright, I gave him some points for being discriminatory when he saw me. He assumed that I understood English and that I did not have to consult my "husband" for house repairs.)

Friday - I wasn't up to doing anything but I was kind to my dog and have him a quick walk even though it was very hot and at noon. (If I waited until it got cooler, I'd have lost the urge.) He was happy and sniffed a lot.

Saturday - I treated my brother (and I) to some pizza for lunch since he is the one who usually pays.

I have already started my second week of kindness. Let's see if I can finish it.

Week 2

Day 1, Aug 17: Organized a game night in order to teach some games to newbies. One of them was really excited and now she asks me to play more of my collection in order to discover new rules and games. This was an act of kindness that has benefits for me as well. I'm always happy to find new people to play with.
Day 2, Aug 18: We went on a tour with some friends and our kids. I kept all of the children busy with some boardgames I brought with me.
Day 3, Aug 19: Gave my TV to my mother until she repairs her's.
Day 4, Aug 20: i) Helped a friend who wanted to repair his PC. and ii) I helped a friend that had some work to do, by taking her kid to my house for a few hours. (this is the second time I volunteer to this friend during the challenge and it's the same act of kindness as previous week)
Day 5, Aug 21: Feeling very tired today as I had to fill in some job applications. Haven't finished yet but promised to cook for the family as my act of kindness for today.
Day 6, Aug 22: Helped a neighbor by taking her somewhere with my car.
Day 7, Aug 23: Helped my mother with the housework and her garden. It was really tiring but totally worth it.

Another great week came to an end. meeple

Week 3

Day 1, Aug 18: Did a 2 hour cleaning job even though I'm sick and would much rather have stayed in bed.
Day 2, Aug 19: Did dishes and cleaned the litter box despite still being sick (think hubby is getting it too...here's hoping we're all better for our camping trip next week)
Day 3, Aug 20: Did the grocery shopping and the yard work. Held the door for people (one of them was super surprised and said "wow, it must be be nice Tuesday!"). Talked to my grocery clerk and made him laugh.
Day 4, Aug 21: gave another mom advice on how to best navigate the preschool she's sending her daughter to next year (we had some issues last year that we learned from). Made a special meal for my family (shrimp with potatoes and parmesan lemon cream sauce).
Day 5, Aug 22: Took my kids out for a few hours so my husband could have time to himself..
Day 6, Aug 23: Like many others, offered a Not-a-Piff in honor of Lexi.
Day 7, Aug 24: made rice Krispy treats with my kids and then brought some to my Dad.

Denmark seems to be in autumn mode already. Sun, rain, wind. Nothing better to light up the days than a series of kindness'.

Week 3
Day 1, Aug 18: I picked up my step-son at 3 am from a party out of town.
Day 2, Aug 19: I picked up my step-son at 1 am from a work-party in town.
Day 3, Aug 20: Sat with my father, so my mother could get out of the house, then, when he slept, I mended my mothers bike.
Day 4, Aug 21: Helped my step-son get a better deal on his drivers license.
Day 5, Aug 22: Sat with my father as my mother got a haircut.
Day 6, Aug 23: Celebrated my parents 44th anniversary by getting them breakfast, gifts and dinner.
Day 7, Aug 24: Surprised my stepdaugthers boyfriend with a song on his birthday.

Week 3 in the books. It has been fun.

Week 3 (I have no idea what this game is like but I bet it's the longest BGG game title when one types in 'school' in the search engine.

Sunday - pizza was on my mind again and I treated my brother again to some pizza from dinner. He was working hard on all day on the bathroom.

Monday - while waiting for the bus, I used my umbrella to create shade for me and another person. Part of me regretted it as the wait was so long and she was so tall my outstretched arms got tired. I was hoping she would help out or say thanks. But she did help by using her better eyesight and cell phone to check if the coming bus was ours. I guess it was exercising my arms while standing in place.

Tuesday - I let my brother have the last piece of leftover pizza.

Wednesday - I offered to give up a coveted spot in yoga class (it's next to a air conditioning vent. It gets stuffy so a lot of people like putting their mats by the vents) for someone who wanted to be near the wall to possibly use it for some poses.

Thursday - I offered to accompany the dog outside in the rain in the backyard because my brother wanted to watch a movie. My dog doesn't mind rain but he fears thunder and lightning (as I do). Thunder and lightning had passed but the dog wasn't entirety convinced it was safe but no one wanted him hold it in or pee inside during the night. He trusted me and accompanied me outside. He got lots of praise for "doing his business" in the downpour.

Friday - I sent a TGIF geekmail and included some emoticon art to make her smile.

Saturday - I had plans for today but changed them to call my mother and treat her to lunch with me and my brother.

Title just amused me when I looked for games with the word love in them. Definitely another contender for longest name.

Week#3:
Sunday, August 18: Went through my stock of homemade canned goods and pulled together a mixed case of items to stock my nephew's pantry (jams, jellies, ketchup, salsas, and cooking sauces.) Brought those and the items from Saturday over to my parents' house since nephew and my sister will be visiting them prior to his move so they can grab the items then. While there, helped my Mom and Dad pick some of the tomatoes and peppers in the garden that had grown in hard to reach spots.

Monday, August 19: Brought out trash that my husband had forgotten to take out.

Tuesday, August 20: Sent an email to check up on an online friend I haven't talked to in a while.

Wednesday, August 21: Cheered up a friend whose elderly kitty had passed away. Talked to her about how my kitties who have passed will hang out with her kitty over the Rainbow Bridge.

Thursday, August 22: Spent time IM-ing with my sister because she seems nervous about her son moving to NJ for his first job in NYC. He's a super smart level headed guy so he will do great even though she'll miss him.

Friday, August 23: Gave my hubby a neck/shoulder rub because he seemed achy.

Saturday, August 24: Offered to have someone ship to my house an an item for KA-Con that would be difficult to fly with and I will deliver it there and later ship it back to them after the convention is over

Week Three!
Sun: Listened to the plight of my wife’s friend and didn’t try to swoop in and fix it. Not always easy to do.
Mon: Entertained the student of a fellow counselor for a while until she was ready to meet.
Tue: Volunteered for yet another staff group at work... possibly regretting it already. Oh well. Hopefully making things better.
Wed: Lead an impromptu student group without time to plan to help out a peer.
Thu: Took a group for a peer to give them a chance to eat lunch which was not in their schedule.
Fri: Took only half of my favorite donut (marble cruller) so a friend could experience its wonder for the first time. Apparently it was just “pretty good...”. Some people’s tastebuds are broke!
Sat: Kept rearranging meeting times/places with people buying games from me, despite the fact that it meant missing out on some relaxation time while I drove all over creation. Yes, I know selling games is of personal interest, but it used to be that folks just came to me to buy them. I guess it's because I need the sale more than they need the games.

BTW: What does it mean that two of my good deeds in the last three weeks were donut related? blush

Aug. 18: Took time to talk to a couple who are going through a difficult time.
Aug. 19: Helped a new employee from another group get access to information she needed.
Aug. 20: Rubbed my wife's shoulders, neck and back do to her being really sore.

Eh, its a silly idea that makes me smile.

Week 3:
Wednesday Aug 21: Listened to a coworker. Gave a coworker a stem of, ahem, roses.
22: Listened to a coworker. Made a gap for 2 people to change lanes. Gave some homemade chilli.
23: Pointed someone to Not a PIFF day. Watered the office plants. And yeah, I did hold a door open. Also pointed them to the floor the business was on.
24: At a fast food place, gave my remaining sheet of coupons to the customer in line behind me. Reminders.
25: Offered to loan an anime series to 2 people. Reminders.
26: Overheard 2 library patrons asking where the graphic novels were, so I showed them, and then recommended TUSG.

Aug. 22nd: Cleaned a disgusting apartment before our cleaner has to go in there to make her job much, much more pleasant.
Aug. 23rd: The new guy was hoping to work a minimal amount today so he could run some errands, so I picked up the slack so he could leave well before lunch.
Aug. 24th: Helped a buddy move.
Aug. 25th: Helped my new coworker move some of his heavier furniture up the stairs.
Aug. 26th: A friend of mine had a giant wasp nest on her porch and is allergic, so I went and took care of them for her.
Aug. 27th: The new coworker's wife left him and their two young sons the other day, moving out of state. So since I went through a very similar situation with my oldest son, I spent some time talking with him, letting him know my family is there for him when he needs us.
Aug. 28th: There is a mentally-disabled guy who is constantly walking through our neighborhood. Recently I've noticed he's been walking with the aid of a mop, so today when I encountered him I gave him a cane to use instead.

Aug. 29th: Right after I had clocked out for the day, one of our older tenants calls in an issue she's having so I head over there and help her out while off the clock.
Aug. 30th: Finished my work up early because I was planning on leaving early, but stayed to help my coworker out. While driving home after work I came across a soft-shelled turtle in the road, so I picked him up and drove him to the nearest pond.
Aug. 31st: I don't get very many days off work (think this was the first day in over three weeks) so I spent the day trying to get all the house chores caught up. Three loads of laundry, two loads of dishes, cleaned my boys' bathroom from top to bottom and worked on the kitchen and living room. I then let my oldest have one of his birthday gifts early because he was behaving fairly well.
