I am not in school, thankfully. Nor do I have young humans in school. But the stores are filled with school supplies and people acting extra crazy. And the summer hiatus for many of my recurrent meetings has ended (much sadness here). And really I'm just making up reasons because I feel like running another kindness challenge.

To enter: Add an item to this geeklist, perform an act of kindness each day for a week, and keep track of what you do each day. It is possible to do this 4 times before the challenge ends. If you choose to participate more than once, create a new geeklist item for each week. Each completed week (geeklist item) counts as one entry for the giveaway.

Your daily acts can be small or large - check out the previous challenges in Hedgehog kindness challenge subscription list for some ideas.

Prizes:
Grand prize winner: One person will be chosen as the "grand prize" winner (likely via a die roll). If the person lives in the United States (all 50 states) or Puerto Rico, they can choose to receive a game costing up to $40 from Amazon for me to send them or a Gamer Glass dragon of their color choice. Elsewhere can choose to receive a gift certificate of the equivalent of $40 for a local retailer (online or FLGS, as long as I can easily purchase it), or a Gamer Glass dragon of their choice. Free shipping worldwide is included in the prize.

Additionally, the winner will get to choose one of the following charities to receive a $150 donation:
charity:water
Ali Forney LGBT kids shelter
• Winner's local food bank
• Winner's local homeless shelter

Second prize: The second prize winner will win 100 geekgold,, courtesy of Nicolai Broen Thorning, and gets to choose one of the above charities to receive a $100 donation.

Third prize: The third prize winner will win 50 geekgold, courtesy of Nicolai Broen Thorning, and gets to choose one of the above charities to receive a $50 donation.

Three different people will be chosen for the prizes.

Finally, if you participate and do not yet own Microbadge: “A single act of kindness throws out roots in all directions, and the roots spring up and make new trees.” ― Amelia Earhart, I will gift you 8gg to purchase it and wear it during this month.

Deadline to enter: Wednesday, September 4th, 2019, at 4pm EST. Your geeklist item must have 7 days with acts of kindness listed by this time to count.

Oh, bloody hell, is it week four already?

Yes, yes it is.

August 22: Got everyone out of work on time today, in spite of having lots of work. Made a coworker go home early to get some rest.

August 23: Bought and made (first time ever) that southern horror known as 'grits' so Mom could have 'shrimp and grits' for dinner. Promised to learn to make it properly *groan*.

Helped people find things in my store while shopping after work.

Fixed several problems so other people wouldn't have to and sorted and distributed the signs for today's sale so no one would be running around looking for their signs 10 minutes before the sale started. (With the loss of our scanning coordinator, signs and tags have been left to nobody/everybody and it's been a c******-f***)

August 24: Fail. I did some nice things today but I also accidentally may have hurt and/or upset someone that I would never want to hurt.

August 25: Making Mom 'proper' shrimp and grits for dinner.

I also got to give away two games for Not-a-Piff day. I can't Piff right now as I have two outstanding ones (serves me right for pre-ordering stuff) so it's nice to be able to get games to people who want them.

August 26: Held the door four or five times for people today at work

Stayed over to coupon everything that needed it.

Unloaded orders for floral and deli and took them to the departments so they wouldn't have to come back and get them.

August 27: Made up a special fruit basket for a woman to take to her friend in the hospital.

August 28: On my way out the door from work, I helped a lady with one of our motorized carts and took her walker to the service desk for her

August 29: Mailed two Piff packages before work and had to get bubble wrap. A lady came in mailing packages as well and her item was going to be very loose in the box so I gave her the rest of what I hadn't used.

Also managed to get us through Inventory today fast enough to get my boss out by 7... which is when his wife gets off as well so they could leave together.

August 30: Went in to work early so my boss could leave and take his daughter to school. Stayed late so he could pick her up and then did Mom's shopping.

August 31: Bought something on Etsy to make a gift for a very nice person.

Took my daughter driving even though I really didn't want to leave the house.

Yes, I am challenging myself to do something nice every single day this month!

September 2: Spent time with my daughter and then listened to a friend for quite awhile because they both wanted my attention. It meant I didn't get anything I wanted to do done and was late to bed as well.

September 3: A day of door holding, taxi and shopping service. I also helped my boss get through his work faster so he could go pick up his daughter on time even though it meant I was late with my own work.

Week 4!

Sunday: Changed our schedule with the kids around to accommodate my sister, who didn't inform us well of her plans or timetable, without mentioning it to her. Kids usually need things to be predictable so that they can stay chill. Leave it to my little ones to show daddy when they are better at "going with the flow" than he is. They sure are raising me right.
Mon: Gave a kiddo who needs a boost a leadership role and asked him to look out for my newbies. He was shocked I had so much confidence in him and his whole demeanor changed.
Tues: Went out of my way to help a coworker feel comfortable with an unlucky situation. Bummed that they got self-deprecating though.
Wed: Today was a day full of giving compliments. I needed a boost, and seeing folks smile all day when I compliment them makes me feel happier.
Thurs: Took on a ton of extra stuff today to help a flustered coworker.
Fri: Hung our with guy I can’t stand to give our friend a chance to be with (their) son without babydaddy pissing her off. (See my past weekly entries for earlier details.) Basically taking one for the team.
Sat: While I was bringing my daughter on a carousel, a woman approached my wife and I and asked if I could let her son sit next to us, so I could keep an eye on her son during the ride (as she couldn’t go on with him). His mom stood by my wife and they waved at the kids together.

I have already started my third week of kindness. It's easier than it seemed at first. Everyday chances come up if you really feel like helping others.

Week 3

Day 1, Aug 24: I helped my husband with his work, carried some cameras and stuff, filmed things, etc.
Day 2, Aug 25: I was really tired today, but promised my brother to play with his kids, so he could go swimming. My nephews and my daughter are always my best and at the same time my "most exhausting" company.
Day 3, Aug 26: Cleaned up the house and did some housework as a surprise to my husband.
Day 4, Aug 27: Gave a gift to my brother for his birthday and a gift to my mother, because I knew she wanted something.
Day 5, Aug 28: I don't know if this count as an act of kindness but I suggested a friend to bring her nephews at my house in order to show them some boardgames for kids. At first the kids didn't want to play because they said they didn't like games. surprise But when they saw some Djeco games my daughter own they were surprised and finally they really liked them.
Day 6, Aug 29: Went to the grocery twice in order to please everyone at home.
Day 7, Aug 30: Helped my mother by doing some housework and cooking.
Bonus Day. Aug 31: Gave some baby clothes and stuff to a friend that " s going to have a baby.

Another great week came to an end and feels great as well.

Week four!

Sunday - When I was born, my devout parents prayed to St. Jude at St. Judge's Shrine. In honor of that, I donated to St. Jude's Hospital. I've been fortunate to not have experienced cancer, but I remember the tests and stuff I had to go through as a preemie until I was 3 or 4 years old.

Monday - Got up off my bus seat early to give more room for a couple.

Tuesday - Took time to say hello and greet the security guard standing outside the bank as I walked by on the street.

Wednesday - Bought some fish and hush puppies from the food truck on the walk home as a treat for my brother. I did try a few of the hush puppies.

Thursday - I greeted (coming on) and thanked (while getting off) each bus driver along my bus route. I like one in particular today who takes time to greet everyone when she climbs aboard to replace the other driver.

Friday - Even though I wasn't feeling up to it, I got out of the house to give my dog a short walk around the block. It was repaid to me as getting out of the house for a bit today was good.

Saturday - A table server made a mistake and gave one of our orders to the wrong table. I found out when the other patron came to our table with it. He had eaten some of it before realizing the error. I reassured the apologetic server no great harm was done. Either she was tired, flustered or in the wrong job as she had almost given us someone else's order earlier. (I didn't order the mac and cheese she almost served us but it made me wish I had ordered it.) At the grocery store, while thanking the cashier, I wished him a good holiday weekend if he had time off.

Well, week 4 it is.

Week 4
Day 1, Aug 25: I surprised my wife by fully cleaning and sorting our garage. She was so happy, she offered to take the discarded stuff to the recycling station.
Day 2, Aug 26: I helped our elderly neighbours get their washing machine started. They were so grateful they came over with a bottle of red wine. I did not say we do not drink wine. The gesture was its own reward.
Day 3, Aug 27: I sat with my father so my mother could get out. He was very befuddled due to some new meds, so I mowed the lawn instead and looked at my mothers bike again.
Day 4, Aug 28: I cleaned and cleared out our pantry and sorted 5 boxes from the attic. My wife was very happy.
Day 5, Aug 29: I helped my parents order a new remote.
Day 6, Aug 30: I brought the wine to my mother as a gift. She was well pleased.
Day 7, Aug 31: I sorted and listed all our old comics, so they can be sold. Hopefully they are worth a bit of money. Then I helped my step-daughter with some personal issues. My wife is on a weekend with her best friend from way back.

Week 4 in the books. It has coincided with a general upturn in my own well-being. I am confident it has played a part in it.

Week 4

Day 1, Aug 25: Sanitized all the toys and books at my daughter's gym (there are enough back to school viruses without adding to them). Hosted a game day with some friends. Put away my daughter's laundry for her.

Day 2, Aug 26: Gave away a game on PiFF for my Birthday today. Stopped for several pedestrians (crossing in odd places and against the light) while out on errands.

Day 3, Aug 27: Brought my dad a piece of birthday cake. Bought an underappreciated micro badge.

Day 4, Aug 28: Brought my mom some medicine for an upset tummy

Day 5, Aug 29: Gave my dad a new set of guitar strings by a company he likes. Did 2 loads of laundry.

Day 6, Aug 30: Brought root beer candy to my inlaws.

Day 7, Aug 31: Picked up trash on the beach

September 1: Went to the kitchen and thanked the cooks and the staff at the restaurant we ate at (they were stressed because of the holiday weekend)

September 2: Bought a case of diapers to donate to the homeless shelter

September 3: Bought a stack of books from the library book sale to give to my Mom. Picked up trash on our walk

September 4: Offered to send a teacher in France a postcard from my state for his classroom. Did my husband's chores. Cleaned the stove. Offered to beta test a game for someone.

Week Four:

Sunday, August 25: While we were at the farm picking our weekly pick-your-own allotment for our CSA share, pulled a bunch of weeds from in the shell bean row so that there's less work for the farm workers to have to deal with during a busy harvest time.

Monday, August 26: Emptied and refilled the dishwasher for my husband.

Tuesday, August 27: Hubby has been having problems with his ears feeling blocked so I offered to put stuff in them for him to help remove the wax because it's a royal PITA to do it yourself.

Wednesday, August 28,: Instead of snapping at my husband and complaining about a mess he had made again, I held my tongue and just cleaned it up myself.

Thursday August 29: I had things that I should be accomplishing but my elderly kitty Emeril was super lonely and wanted to just sit in my lap for a long time, so I let him get his way and petted him too. Results: numb butt for me but happy kitty.

Friday August 30: Chit chatted with the employee at the farmstand checkout who was bored and gave her the suggestion of trying the smoked maple syrup (amazing) they sell drizzled over vanilla ice cream. She was amazed that she had never even thought of using regular maple syrup on ice cream, let alone the smoked one. Mind blown! LOL

Saturday August 31: Gave some gift cards (Amazon and Friendly's) and both regular and smoked maple syrup to a friend who was visiting from Texas. The Amazon card was a thank you for something he was bringing to us but the Friendly's gift card and maple syrups were just because he grew up in this area and really misses both in Texas. Plus he's in MA for business for like 3 weeks so he can use the Friendly's gift card to get his favorite ice cream several times during the visit.

It is 4th down with 7 to go.
Did you know field goals were originally 4 points? And touchdowns were 5 points?

Wednesday, August 28: Made a gap in traffic for a lane changer. Crafted a single flower pop up card, & gave it away. Showed someone else how to make it.
29: Gap in traffic & elevator aide, again.
30: Loaned an anime. Geekmailed a smile. Watered office plants. Gave a coupon.
31: Gap in traffic. Oh, spilled a glass bottle in the grocery story... and went all the way up to the front to make sure they had someone to clean it up (watery sharp glass danger). (So few people today.)
September 1: Picked up some trash on my way to the dumpster.
2:???
3: Watered office plants.
4: Picked up trash in the parking lot. Strongly urged someone to get A working smoke detector in their house. shake Closed someone's open car door in a parking lot. (At least thieves will have to try the door instead of see temptation.)

I think that, somewhat weakly, finishes 7 days.
