These games may be good, may be bad but they all have something in common - they are a real rip off. To put them into context, I have bought several games and regard the Kosmos and Rio Grande series to be well produced and good value. The best produced game so far, for me, has to be Lord of the Rings. I have a particular frustration with Steve Jackson games, as you may be able to tell. I'd be interested in your views - please feel free to add your own rip off games!

This isn't too bad a game with 4 or more, but really - I paid £26 for this and when I opened it I was almost physically sick. This has to be the biggest RIP OFF, right? Cardboard figures and counters that you have to cut out YOURSELF? (not even punched) and a pathetic board which bends and creases. Steve Jackson, you should be ashamed.

OK, the game conecpt is cute and works ok, but really - the game components are as bad as Frag! Ok, so I "only" paid £15 for this, but the components are only one step up from Cheapass games, and no one would accuse them of flase advertising. By the way, this is te "new" edition with snits smashing in - two games in one doesn't redeem it!

Ok, so the cards are good quality and it's a good game but the endless add ons and expansions really do dent the pocket. You have to keep buying them if you want to keep up with the really enthusiastic player. My advice? Just play with a set criteria of editions and ignore the calls of the MTG fanatic - it'll only end in tears.

I run a club at the school where I teach and have been specifically weaning the pupils off this game. They save and save... and save and still only have enough to buy a necron's left arm. The rules are great, the figures are well designed and the scenarios are well established but this is a parasitic beast of a game that sucks you dry £50 at a time! Since introducing my pupils to historical wargaming (sometimes using the excellent Warhammer Ancient Battles rules) and using plastic historical soldiers, they are ablet o buy a whole army for £5-10! Games Workshop produce good games, but it is a mystery how they make their money! Grrr - I'm so annoyed I have to stop writing this list! I'll add more when my bile has subsided.

ARGH!!! Why didn't I read the comments on this game before I bought it (ignoring the wisdom of the Boardgame geek website - what a fool I was!). OK, so I only paid £1.50 for it - but it really isn't VERY GOOD at all! Erm - anyone want to buy it off me for £30?

I bought this at a Game Keeper (WotC) with the guy working there telling me, "Oh, you've got to try this game, it's a blast!" Yeah, he suckered me into an add-on sale. Took it home, played it once. Absolutely terrible. I don't (and never will) understand the appeal of this game. One of the few times in my life I've felt swindled. I wouldn't purchase this game again even if someone paid me to do so, that's how big of a rip-off this game is.

Cards are the thinnest I have ever played with. How the hell can Rio Grande charge the same amount for this game and they do with their other card games printed on far better stock. Don't bother playing this near any bright lights, as you can see right through the cards they are so thin. Ridiculously cheap quality, and just shows how crappy Rio Grande games are becoming. Tummelson needs to take a lesson from Days of Wonder or Uberplay.

Why, it's just like Titan, only without all of the cumbersome design, balance, tension, graphic design, elegance, professionalism, and excitement.

This brings a whole new meaning to the phrase "hobby game": by buying it, you're helping fund someone's hobby. Not yours, unfortunately.

While we're on the topic of Guild of Blades (see W.H.A.T. above), let's talk about Barbary Coast War.

Sure, it is only $5 (plus shipping), but wouldn't you expect a lite wargame to come with combat rules? Movement rules? Components that are printed so that you can read them? But wait, there's more...

When a game is part of a series called "Empires of History", and the website solicits teachers to use these games, you'd expect them to at least get the history right, right? Wrong.

According to the game, Stephen Decatur died in the Barbary Wars (reincarnated for the War of 1812?), the ruler of Tripoli was called the "Bradshaw", and ships can traverse the Atlantic faster than the Mediterranean! See my articles for more of the goofs... most of what this game "teaches" about the war with the Barbary Pirates is just plain wrong.

In short - this game is terrible, absolutely terrible. Which only goes to show that it takes a lot of effort to make a $5 game a rip off!

See that pile of stuff in the picture?

Does that look like it's worth 50 american dollars to you?

I've been looking into getting Roads & Boats lately, and though that has a hefty 100 dollar price tag itself, I can at least justify it to a degree by the size of the company producing it and the huge pile of stuff you get inside a massive box.

This expansion though...I simply don't understand why they decided to price it at this level, perhaps blind opportunism?

It's true that anyone able to buy a 100 dollar board game probably has the ability to buy the 50 dollar expansion if they feel like it, but man, talk about blatant gouging...

I was incensed when I opened up the rules and there plain as day were the words "End-game conditions." The title is a LIE!

(In all seriousness this is actually a great game, and well worth the quite reasonable price tag.)
