Auction for Child's Medical Bills and My General Life Happiness
- Michael KnaussUnited States
Lot's happened in the last few months and years. I used to belong to an active game group, but I moved away because my job sucked and I needed a sanity check. I continued to buy games under the premise that I would play them someday but have yet to do so. You'll notice a common theme with most of the items listed, "opened but unplayed". That means I opened the box, perhaps read the rules and drooled over the contents (Disclaimer: no drool came into contact with any games.) before placing them on my game shelf with the thought to play some day in the future.
Last month my youngest daughter, who is 10, started being very sluggish, tired, not hungry but always thirsty and losing weight. My wife and I thought it was just growing pains and let it linger for a few weeks. Thankfully my wife had more wisdom that I did and after those weeks decided to get my child medical attention. We took her to the urgent care clinic who very promptly after a urine test recommended we go to the Emergency Room immediately. It was at the ER that we were informed my daughter had sugar in her urine which is an indication of diabetes. This shocked us because neither my wife or I have a family history of diabetes, but here we were faced with the fact that my child was in or nearly in diabetic ketoacidosis. From what I understand (and am by no means a medical professional) my child's pancreas had stopped producing insulin and her body was unable to breakdown the carbohydrates from food into energy. We spent the next few days at Nemour's Children's hospital in Orlando, which I can't thank enough for being very helpful, friendly and knowledgeable staff who held our hands through the entire process, getting my child's blood ph back into balance and educating us on how to overcome this disease. It was heartbreaking watching my youngest go through this and as a parent not being able to really do anything but listen to the doctors and hear how her life was going to change. Regardless of the constant encouragement that it was nothing as parents that we did I still felt like a failure to be unable to protect my girl from this. Now I look at my game shelf of unplayed games and see them as money that I wasted that would of been better saved to assist in paying for my girl's medical treatments and prescriptions. Seeing them just sitting there doing nothing started stressing me out and so I decided to stop looking to the future to when they may be played and to get them into the hands of people who would enjoy them and at the same time make some money back to help provide the necessary care for my daughter. My daughter may be a type 1 diabetic now, but rest assured she is back to her vibrant, happy self, and I have decided to focus on the games we play for fun as a family and sending the rest out to people who will hopefully enjoy them.
Actual auction stuff (In really no particular order, because that is how my brain is currently functioning.):
Same thing my mother always told me, if you can't say something nice, don't say anything at all. I am not an auction professional, there has got to be an easier way to do this. While I welcome helpful criticism, please no comments on how I suck because I use FedEx for packing and shipping. I will make every attempt to keep shipping costs low, but I don't have a storage of boxes and packing material just laying around and the couple bucks that FedEx may charge for them is worth it to me in keeping the stress down. If you would like to use your own shipping service you are free to provide me with a shipping label, but understand that a few dollars may still be charged for the box and packing.
All sales will be posted through BGG Marketplace. BGG gets their well deserved tithes for giving us this wonderful place.
Payment preferred through Paypal, cash is acceptable for local pickup.
Local pickup is available in the South Orlando area, CoolStuffInc South Orlando, Coliseum of Comics off 192, and Family Game Night off John Young are great places to meet. Of course no additional charges for shipping and packing using this option.
BIN prices include free shipping and packing for items over $50.00.
Auction will run through Sep-20-19, with extensions running for any items
Unlikely that I will need to, but I reserve the ability to remove, add-to or edit any item in this listing at any time. Most likely this will mean that I may lower prices on items that don't generate interest at their current price point, or possibly close auction early which I will give at least a 24 hour notice in the main auction comments.
Starting bids are listed, and will act as a soft reserve. Which means I may sale at a price lower than that but it will depend mostly on number of games you've won.
Please bid in whole dollar increments.
Prefer to keep shipping to continental US only, you can generate a shipping quote from a vendor of your choice. Shipping is from Zip code 34787.
Reserved for any rule I may have forgotten.
