This is a list of games that don't necessarily have balanced mechanics, require keen strategy, or have tight rules, but we still get a kick out of playing them. Give me your guilty pleasures.

My friends always want to play this game. The sometimes brutally unbalanced scenarios and unpredictable play time would scare away many gamers, but you can't help but laugh when the 6 year-old girl gets hulked up and takes everyone to town. I have fun playing this game because it is different every time and always lots of laughs.

This game can be won or lost on dice, dump on unlucky players, and last longer than it should, but we laugh a lot every time we play it. You definitely come away feeling like a scrappy, scarred scavenger who just earned a meager lunch of elephant ears. I love it.

I just learned this game on BSW. I can see how there wouldn't be enough to it for some people, and I could imagine boring sessions, but I had a lot of fun. I think there is good strategy at its core, and it would make a great gateway game for kids. So what if it's roll and move?
In the damning with faint praise department...it may be the best roll and move game I've played.

Yeah, it's too long. Yeah, the end game is lucky. Yeah, the military strategy can be bland. I have fun playing my character, and I still enjoy a good dicefest from time to time. It's one of those games that seems bad on paper, but is always fun to play.
And if that isn't enough, I think it's a tweak or two away from being a solid game, mechanically.

This is a game my brother would never let me play with him. For that reason alone, I can't turn down games of this. As I get more into games, I find player elimination increasingly irritating, but this game is still a classic for me. Everyone who plays has a different country who they swear wins everytime if you play them right. It's Russia for me.
This game is still fun for me, but you might as well pack it away once someone gets heavy bombers, because it's over.

I suppose there is a prevailing Parker Brothers/Hasbro theme here. Another game that was loads of fun when I was a kid, and still fun today. I've never played Descent, but this seems like the light alternative. Really, I don't think there are many mechanical flaws, and good tactics generally win the day. The roll and move is pretty irritating though, and a bit non-sensical. I can see that they want to throw a monkey wranch in your plans, but does it really have to be 1 though 6?
Still, I will never turn down a game.

Maybe this game is overplayed, but if it doesn't make you laugh, you either need new friends or a heart transplant. I've heard a lot of suggestions of "party games" that are better than this one, but they are never simpler, and rarely funnier. A 'party' game must be simple, so you can keep your Attribut at your eyeglass taping party. This game is good.

I'd like to know why this game got such terrible ratings. There are no reviews, so I am unsure. A card-driven miniature game with tons of goober. I suppose it was too lucky for the set-up, but that never stopped me from having fun.

I list this game with a caveat. My friends and I play this game strictly towards the end of making each other laugh. Coming up with ridiculous movie plots and crazy acronyms leaves us crying with laughter. Keeping score is an afterthought.

Movie: The Big Operator
"The story of a 50-foot tall switchboard technician. This movie was acclaimed for a poignant scene in which the main character attempted to buy a brown shoe."

This game is way too long sometimes, and probably overexposed. Truth be told though, I never stopped having fun. Throwing the sets together usually made for good laughs. The mechanics are purposefully laughable, and the winner is usually lucky, but it's still a good time.

This game is lucky and imprecise, but collecting and putting together the boats is fun on it's own. Some of the ships are broken, but its fairly cheap to play with a good-sized navy and visually exciting. I'll play this anytime.

This game is lucky, but I won't let anyone tell me there isn't skill to it. It is simple to play and fun for the family. I don't get the hatred for this game. It's not meant to be Twilight Imperium. It's light fun for grandma and the kids.

While I won't go so far as to say I like this game or enjoy playing it, I think it is the best of the mindless, MB/Hasbro/PB kids games. It was my first experience playing a character in a boardgame, and I got intoit, not caring that it was entirely dependent on luck. If I have to play one of this type of games, I'll usually pick this one.

This one is a DEFINITE guilty pleasure for me. I think the reason is that the game plays so quickly that you don't really feel cheated if you win or lose. You just play again, talk smack to your opponent, and fight the good fight.

Okay, so if you set out to design a game to appeal especially to me, you couldn't do much better than this pitch: "pirate trick-taking with a take-that element". arrrh So it shouldn't be any real surprise that I like Hispaniola -- but I think the surprise is that I like it as much as I do. I know, I know; it's got terribly translated rules, board play that is unpredictable and hard to manage at best, weird one-way cards, and what's with passing the stacks of tricks around? Still, this game is pure fun for me every time I play. I just enjoy it.

Seriously. Chocolate is really my guilty pleasure. Give me a chocolate bar and I am in heaven.

I also really love this type of mystery roleplaying games. I've never played this one, but I love the goofy interaction this type of game can bring out of people who normally are stiff as a board. So I guess this type of game is a guilty pleasure for me.

I recall playing this game with my parents, and laughing my fool head off. To hear my mom, the sweetest woman in the world (aside from my wife) say "I just won a million dollars!" in a manly voice--man you just can't beat that. This goofy games makes everybody talk in voices they used to use only when nobody else was around, while they were playing with toys that they wouldn't be caught dead playing with (i.e. Larry's Barbie parties).
