The thrill of boardgaming
- Roy Hasson(mogli43)Israel
During a recent visit to a FLGS I finally bought a game I had heard a lot aboutRecommend
for a long time -RA. It is rather high up there in the BGG ratings, has a lot
of positive reviews and seemed to have interesting mechanics, that none of my
other board games had. So buy it I did, and I eagerly introduced it to our
game group as soon as possible. My wife didn't like it. "Just not very interesting",
she said. "No there is a lot of subtle strategy here.. lets play a few more".
"It's ok but lets play something else" said our friends. Nobody seemed to get excited.
Eventually even I was forced to admit something was missing. But what?
The thrill. The suspense. The agonizing wait while you watch your oponents play -
will they ruin your carefully laid plans? Will they invade that key territory?
Will they take that role you want? All of that is just missing here. I simply
cannot get excited by the "nerve racking" wait to see if someone draws, calls Ra
or trades a god.
So this list is all about those moments of thrill and anticipation that make up
the best board games. Add your own!
