Baaaa?

Baaa!

Baaa! Baaa! Baaaaaaaaaaaaaa!

Fun fact: if you open Google's image search and enter "baa", the results vary with the amount of "a"s in the "baa"

Co-OP with a deduction, slightly in the dual code names vain. Should be a good one, and an easy build.

Edit: played. Very simple, and yes the deduction felt like codenames a bit. It has legs in that field of co-ops, more group think than I thought, as long as they aren't deducing your card you can help think it through.

A "play in your hand" game inspired by Palm Island.

Pretty easy build- a few pages of rules and 20 ish cards to make. The files are designed to be folded in the middle- that keeps the correct front to back orientation. It also reduces the cutting.

I cut, folded and put the cards in sleeves.

This has two modes to play (points or battles) and some built-in expansions.

Not the game itself, but the DIY storage solution on the Files page. This one is a beast, and I'm hoping this will tame it somewhat. I've got the files printed, but I need to construct everything.

Frankly, I'm a little intimidated by it at present, and hope some organization will make it more approachable.

Spent the weekend locked in mortal combat with this preview PnP file.

https://rockmanor.itch.io/the-few-and-cursed

On the one hand, I am grateful that they released the PnP early for $5. On the other hand, they charge for the PnP, no special build instructions, and really leave it up to us builders to rudely discover and figure out a whole bunch of issues with the PnP file:

- like most Rock Manor PnP files, these are not delivered in 3x3, 9-card grid format. They are one card to a page. I had to convert them (which I did, brilliantly, using a combo of Automator + TextEdit + Numbers + Multideck on my Mac. I could describe my process but it's super nerdy and out of scope for this post)

- No indication whatsoever that the Character cards are double sided, with Normal side on one side, and Cursed side on the other. Found that out *after* I had already built them, rassa-frassa-rassa. Now I have to rebuild the Character cards. Another edit to my custom 3x3 Character card PDF.

- No indication whatsoever that the Job and Shop Item cards are mini cards rather than poker-sized. Fortunately I hadn't built those yet. Another edit to my custom Jobs and Shop Items 3x3 PDFs -- now they are 4x4.

- No card backs. No problem, am used to designing my own.

- No player board backs. Again, just designed my own.

About halfway done with the build now. Trying to make the quality better than retail. Cut up some really thick board to use as core for the player boards. Using a two-layer technique for my cards -- 20 lb. plain paper front, 110 lb. index card stock back, aligned in front of strong light source, clamped with binder clips, spray glued (3M Super 77), laminated, cut with Fiskars paper trimmer. Very happy with the result -- cards feel thick and premium, satisfyingly springy and snappy.

Took a whole bunch of pictures, made some videos. Build ongoing.

As mentioned in the October list, this build spilled over into November. I hope to get the base 4 characters completed in the next week or so and determine if I want to continue on with the mass of additional characters available.

A little late. I have this mostly built for the base set. The kiddos helped out with the decals for the dice.

So far it looks like both materials experiments are a success. The laser waterslide decal pages worked out well. See photos for that. I'm not entirely sure of durability, but at least for now they worked great. The second experiment was using Rachel's new card core idea. I had one minor mishap with the glued up sheet trying to jam in the laminator on the first pass, but flipping it & running back through pretty much fixed that. The cards are thinner than I've become used to for PnP, but seem like they will be durable and shuffle well (it's hard to determine with only 4 cards).

On the Cricut using Print-then-cut to perform the tedious grunt work of cutting out all the decals. I laid out as compact as I could to get two sets on one sheet since these are expensive.
From gallery of claudermilk

All decals cut out, ready to apply to 16mm blank dice. I'll do the d8 later (forgot to order those).

Base set (almost) complete.

I'm normally far too lazy to make a PnP myself, but I stumbled across Pocket Civ a couple of months ago and decided I needed to make myself a copy.

And then I had an incredibly hectic September and October and it fell completely off my radar.

So, since I specifically blocked off some free time for myself this weekend, I'm going to spend a while figuring out how the heck to make this and, ideally, make it. Should be fun, and if not at least the end result should be!

I've been out of the PnP game for the last year or so, due to work schedules and a few other things.

This game looks right up mine and my groups alley. It doesn't hurt that I just happen to have about 80 multi-colored gumball machine robots mounted on cardboard for a skirmish game we had a few weeks back.

Plus, there's only 84 cards and around 100 tokens. It's a nice medium sized build. And it will tide me over until the finished product gets delivered.

Files are in the BGG game page or linked from the Kick-starter Page.

Trying to only make boxes after deciding I'm keeping the game. I played this and found it both restful, engaging, and thematic, with light tension (as you really do need to meter your card use). So I made a box!

Board Game: Snowbirds

The game fits nicely in the tin, and I think there's space for at least one expansion. Trying to decide which to make.

Received my copy of this game in the mail two days ago. Decided to design and build a quick quad-fold game board for it. Board is optional, but enhances gameplay.

I spray glued four layers of poster paper together to form the game board core, then cut into right-sized sections with rotary cutter, cork-backed metal ruler, and self-healing mat. Split the design across four sheets using Splitprint, printed to HP photo paper, cut down to proper size using a Fiskars paper trimmer. Attached four sections using duct tape to join the seams. Used 3M Super 77 to spray glue images to the board core. whole build took about 90 minutes.

I thought this game would benefit from these added cards for variety. (Plus, I like the word 'brackish'.) There's just enough space for the extra areas in my mint tin... barely!

I might eventually print up another set of action cards and the storm expansion and put it in a second tin with the 2p rules. Then I'd have a 1p tin and 2 tins for 2p. My son isn't old enough quite yet to play this solo though, so there's no real rush.

I've created it at the end of october, but I played it in november.

I've designed the patern in illustrator on a 250x250mm square. Then I printed it on a dibond plate (6 mm thick). Digibond is a plate material thats made of 2 layers of aluminium with in the middle some kind of plastic. I've ordered the beaver meeples online. They are 23x23mm.

You can see the result via this link.

So, I guess I'm not the only one making Tak this month. Great minds think alike!

So far, I'm reusing my inherited solid wood chess board as the Tak board, with plans to just make my own Tak center coin, but I could be sweet talked into the gorgeous board design of the Tak, above.

So far, my Tak looks like ...

I've marked the difference in colors with some removable red tape as stickers and then taught a traveler to play. We were playing on a 5x5 grid. I hadn't yet designed my capstones, so we used nail polish bottles for that purpose. Who says print and play has to be expensive?

Watch this space, because I have plans to permanently color one set of the stones. And I'm going to get some keeper capstones instead of nail polish bottles. That said, the nail polish worked really well.

I went ahead and took one of the Tak board graphics from the files section and combined it with a 3-for-$18 at ArtsCow deal to print it on a medium glasses cloth. So there's my permanent board.

I read somewhere on the internet (so not always reliable) that coffee will stain marble. And these tile pieces are marble. So I currently have them soaking in the dregs of my housemate's morning coffee (I'm a tea drinker) in the hopes that the tiles will stain. I plan to leave them in there at least overnight. Cross your fingers for me.

Also, I got the idea from the Tak forums to simply glue some tiles, or flat marbles, or a flat marble to a tile, together to make a capstone. So now I'm looking to see if I can find any flat marbles lying about my house. I have all sorts of crafty bits and bobs, so there must be some somewhere. If not, it will be two tiles glued together in a sort of star pattern.

1-4 Player worker placement game.
Set in the mid-1800s, the golden age of whaling, New Bedford gives you the chance to build the Massachusetts town of the same name into a thriving whaling community. Gather resources to add buildings with new actions and launch ships to go whaling. Go out longest for the best choice, but wait too long and the whales become harder to catch. And don't forget to pay your crew when ships return! Carefully balance time management and timing to earn the most points in this medium-weight worker placement and resource management game.

Printed Materials:
-Base
2 Boards
4 Player Mats
56 Whale Tokens
20 Building Tiles

32 Cards
-Solo
5 Mats

Additional Materials:

8 Meeples (2 per player)
8 Ships (2 per player)
1 First Player
1 Round Tracker
1 Draw Bag
75 Resources (25 wood, 30 food, 20 brick)
Money
-Solo
1 Marker
1 Custom D6

BOARDS
2 game boards. One is for most worker placement spots and tracking who owns which building, the other is for whaling and round tracker. Printed on full sheet labels and mounted to 50pt chipboard, plus self adhesive lamination on top.

PLAYER MATS
One per player. This is where you keep all the whales on boats and returned whales. Same as above but used cardstock.

BUILDING TILES
These are front and back, they have a player count on the back side. Probably could have just wrote that on there but these are nice. Tried my best aligning, was left with a few cutting lines but I'm totally fine with that. Same method as the boards.

WHALE TOKENS
SO MANY TOKENS. You pull these out of bag at random based on how many ships are at sea. I've also got the 4 expansion tokens there, I marked those with a dot on the back. I kind of wish I made them double sided but that would've been more work than I wanted to deal with how page is set up. Same method as the boards.

MISC COMPONENTS
I'm most proud of my work here. I had no idea what I was going to do to make those ship tokens, they need to be distinguished by either a black or white sail for each player color. So I glued four resource cubes together (2 player color, 2 sail color) and then cut out the ship shape on full sheet labels which I mounted to both sides of the thing. So it has the effect of being player color hull and the sails are the different colors. It worked out amazingly, they look great and are decently chunky. Also, drew on chips for the first player marker and the round tracker. And finally printed out a score sheet and laminated it.

EXPANSION
I already mentioned the expansion tiles above, but there were also cards that players can take if all that's available is Open Waters tokens. I printed out full sheet labels and mounted to some old Shogun mini cards.

SOLO
These are for solo play, there are four different options and a reference sheet. They simulate another player with a roundel system. Used the same method as the player mats.

FULL GAME
So I played through a full three player game by myself, I find it's the best way to learn a game so I can teach it. And I decided I want to get a better feeling for the games I post before I submit. This is a snapshot at game end. I used poker chips for money and resource cubes for the food, wood, and bricks. Orange won but I felt like each player was winning at some point during the game.

THOUGHTS
This has probably surpassed my biggest build, but I think it was all worth it. This game was so fun. If you've got the resources and the time, I say a must build. The whaling mechanic is a fun extra piece to a standard worker placement game. Can't wait to play with other, try it out solo for real, and throw in the expansions.

NOT the base game. There are a lot of 1-2 page PNPs of official bonus content, German now translated to English content, and even some fan content.

I backed the pnp version of the Fantastic Factories. I intended to translate it to Hungarian language for my family. It was great I was able to edit the received PDF very easily.
Unfortunately the tokens are not perfect, but maybe I'll find a better solution for the replacement for them.

Was able to find this grail game for 50 percent off at my FLGS. Core game plays 2-4, but the publisher provided a PnP of the Horde AI solo mode cards and board. Quick build of 8 cards, front on plain paper, back on card stock. Aligned using binder clip method, then spray-glued. Then laminated. Cards are nice and thick via this method. Board was two layers of card stock glued together, then laminated, which was a little too thick for my laminator to handle. Had to help pull the sheet through manually.
