Escape Winter Con 2020 Scheduling & Gamer Meetup List
for Boardgames, Wargames, Teaching Games (and other big'uns)

Feb 21 - 23rd - Wyndham Resort International Drive - Buena Vista, FL

A new gaming convention tradition launches this year! I hope this list is helpful for your scheduling needs!!

Official Events Schedule: TBA

Facebook Group:

https://www.facebook.com/groups/184114715004724/

Why this List?

This list is to encourage attendees to post & schedule heavier games that they would like to organize prior to arriving at the Con. Due to the nature of Open Gaming conventions, the ability to get meatier games to the table is always a challenge. Often due to the dynamic nature of the attendees, formal schedule, etc. For most Euro strategy games, pick-up sessions are quite easy at an open gaming convention. But by starting this list a few months in advance, players can start reviewing rules, assign players to specific countries/characters/etc.

This list should be used to post open games that require a larger block of time (3-5+ hours) **These are not for OFFICIAL events and games that will be listed on the Escape Winter Con Schedule .

Got a meaty GMT wargame or an old Avalon Hill game that you've been dying to have hit the table? How about the game of Die Macher or Mega Civilization you've always wanted to try? What about a game of Fiasco? This list is for you!

Please also use this list to coordinate informal teaching/learning games for newbies.

Organization of the Geeklist

The games are listed in ALPHABETICAL order so that you can scroll down the list and see if a game you want to play is being organized or not. If it is, you can post a comment showing your interest. If it's not, you can Add an Item and put a game on the list.

It is also usually a good idea to Subscribe to the specific games you are interested in playing, rather than the entire list. This way, you will be notified only when there is a post to the specific games you want, rather than all games and comments.

For particularly organization-heavy games in which players, roles, and other stuff must be handled prior to the con, it might be good to have several entries of a game.

How to Post

Some useful information to include in game listings:

Game Title (added via the Geeklist Item)
# of Players
Day/Time/Location to Meet (This will likely be 'TBD' until we get closer to the Con)
Expected Playing Time (Duration)
Requested Experience Level of Players (i.e. "Newbie-friendly", "Experts wanted", etc.)

Room Locations

I encourage you to indicate a room and the meeting time. Once official Con areas are designated, I'll update with floorplans and meeting rooms.

The generic meeting space of the hotel is here:

https://www.wyndhamhotels.com/content/dam/property-assets/en...

Mules

If you are willing to bring a copy of a needed game, please do! Many of the games on this list may be scarce, or not a typical title for the Con library. Obviously, older titles may require a Mule. If you are a local wargamer, or travelling by car to Orlando, supplies such as plexiglass, extra dice, dice towers, are greatly appreciated. The die-hard Grognards probably have their own tweezers. laugh

Requesting a Game

If you aren't planning to host a specific game, but would like to help get it organized, please REPLY in the comments section your request for playing a certain game. You should have pretty good success getting someone willing to set up a game if there is enough interest for that particular title.

I've set up a Escape Winter Gaming Convention Attendees guild for you to browse other attendees' collections. Join this guild and you can request games for other folks to bring.

Here is the current Escape Winter Con Game Library

I'd like an 8 player game going, if we can! I have everything currently available for the game. Random draw of Old Ones, and more than happy to throw some Neutral horrors and side monsters into the mix.

Players:
1. Me
2. Tarah C.
3.
4.
5.
6.
7.
8.

Date/Time: Saturday night, shooting for 7pm but willing to adjust for the group. Location will likely be 'TBD' until we get closer to the Con, because we'll need a big table

Expected Playing Time: Last DTC, our game was 7 people, and it lasted 2-3 hours.

Requested Experience Level of Players: This one is hard to say. Definitely willing to teach. The game is rules-simple, strategy deep. Any newbie can learn the basic rules of the game, but from there it becomes learning your Old One and your spellbooks and formulating a strategy around them. That I cannot teach.

Day/Time/Location: TBD
Duration: 1.5-2 hrs if we do initial case; up to 3 if do another.

Become a 1940's L.A. detective picking the seedy chewed bubblegum off of the soles of society. This is a competitive narrative where multiple detectives search to solve an unspeakable crime. The one difference is that there is a human player, known as "The Chisel" who controls the people you interview, and sometimes you might not get the answers you are expecting.

If someone else who is experienced wants to play as 'The Chisel' (the game master), just let me know. Also, if everyone wants to play are specific/more difficult scenario, also let me know.

Volko Ruhnke's instant classic about the ongoing struggles against global terrorism. Considered to be the bridge between Twilight Struggle and the GMT COIN Series, it portrays the logistical battles of the US Forces and their War of Ideas against the Jihadist fundamentalist activities.

Looking to host a game of this at EWC this year. I'll happily teach if I get three new players, and then we can have a two-on-two learning game.

If playing against an Experienced player, we'll probably use the Labyrinth: The Awakening, 2010 – ? expansion, adding a little extra complexity with the more recent influence of the Arab Spring, ISIL, and Caliphate rules.

I'd like to get a 4 player game going, if we can! I have everything currently available for the game. This game is super fun, but it's so very niche that I really only get to bust it out at Conventions. If you haven't played Millennium Blades, you've never played anything like Millennium Blades. It's a board game that simulates playing a CCG. If you were ever into Magic: The Gathering, Yu-Gi-Oh, or Pokemon, you'll feel right at home here. Even if you weren't, though, it's still a fun game!

Players:
1. Me
2. CPbelt
3.
4.

Date/Time: Friday, whenever works best for the players. Location will likely be 'TBD' until we get closer to the Con.

Expected Playing Time: It's a fairly quick game, maybe an hour, hour and a half with setup and teaching time.

Requested Experience Level of Players:
Experienced gamers/CCG players, but don't have to be experienced with this game. Lv99 games tend to be very unique, and this is no exception. I will teach.

On Mars (2019)

No. of Players: 4
Day/Time/Location: Saturday, 2/22 @ 8:30am (Location TBD)
Duration: 3+ hours (I'll block off 4 hours because the teach will be 30+ mins)
Experience: No experience necessary, but know that this is a pretty HEAVY game
Mule: GatorDave

Mars has already been visited and somewhat explored. Now it is time to begin to colonize the planet. Rival corporations work both together and against to become the most successful colonizers on Mars.

Though the game is open to anyone, I just want to set expectations and let you know that this is not a simple, run-of-the-mill worker placement game (actually, WP is only a small component of the whole). You're going to be balancing a limited number of decisions with a lot of options. To be successful in this game, you are going to have to piggy-back off the work of other players, so you're going to have to be aware of what the other players have and what they are planning to do.

I would recommend watching a video or looking over a guide about this game before showing up. The BEST video I've come across is Heavy Cardboard's teach and play of the game. It is a bit of a time-sink but Edward does a great job going over the game. The game designer recommends Gaming Rules!'s video due to a few errors in the first one mentioned. Player colors available (let me know if you have a preference): YELLOW, BLUE, PURPLE(ish), and GREEN

Sabotage (2019) by Tim Fowers (Burgle Bros, Paperback, Now Boarding, etc.)

No. of Players: 4
Day/Time/Location: TBD
Duration: 60-90 mins
Experience: No experience necessary.
Game Mechanics: Hidden movement and simultaneous action selection
Mule: GatorDave

This is the newest game by Tim Fowers. It's a 2-versus-2 asymmetrical game of cat and mouse as two spies break into the evil lair of two supervillains in order to destroy their doomsday devices. NoPunIncluded has a good review of the game here.

This one is pretty much a 4-player only game, so if you can't make it then let me know Also, if you have a preference of teams/sides, first come, first pick.

Would love to get a 5 player game set-up. I have decks built for beginners (google barb wire project). I also have blood counters (glass beads). Got into this when it first released and have always wanted to play a live game. I have played on lackey ccg and should be fine to teach but am open to anyone else leading the group and/or bringing decks and supplies.
