I recently acquired Wicked Witches Way, Which (by the Way) is Wicked (wicked fun that is). Anyway, I realized with this addition I now have two games that use the game's box as part of the board or playing area.

What other games use the box as part of the board? I'm curious.

If you have a game to add, please describe how the box is used and (if you can) choose an image that illustrates this usage best.

The box opens up to reveal both a containing area for the dice, AND a cover to quickly hide the dice (after you feel you've seen them long enough to generate a "spell").

Pretty convenient!

The bottom of the box is placed upside down and used as Cleopatra's palace. Players build various structures around the outside and on top. Neat idea, I think.

Card game where the box serves as the "wall" where the Valentine Day massacre occurred. Cards are played in front of this "blood drenched" wall/box until 6 or more gangsters are lined up at which point a gang war starts and they all die off one by one (or worse).

The instructions say to use the box each turn to shake the dice around, the dice are so large and there are so many of them, that rolling them each turn isn't really a possibility.

I've heard that in Beest, the box itself is a player... which reminds of a review by fellow geek pmarjora on Funagain's site:
Quote:
It seems to me that a game should be treated with extreme suspicion if the box in which it came can be the winner. In our game it was observed that the box would also make a useful doorstop, and would be serving humanity to a far great degree in this capacity. In fact, we were all losers, so in that sense the box was the only winner: rather like a parasite, it had now found a home. The theme of the game could in fact be viewed as a metaphor for the spread of the game itself. You get it, it is bad for you, but you don't know that until it's too late. I am here to save you from this fate.

Here's one!

The box is a valley full of carnivorous plants - a wonderful image - and players try to move their pawns across a wooden bridge and not fall into the maws of vegetable death...

A simple roll/move/bluff affair (by Alex Randolph), but the theme is just irresistible.

Legend of the Five Rings was the first game that jumped into my mind when I read the title for this list. In L5R, the back of each box is a stronghold for a specific clan. You use the stronghold just like a resource card, and it also gives information about starting honor, provence strength, and special abilities. It's a rather neat idea, almost like starting a game of Magic with land, life totals, and a game-changing enchantment in play for both sides.

One of my personal silly favorites. Markers move around the edge of the pool, pushing each other in. You try to protect your secret color so as to be the last one standing.

There's an earlier geeklist on this subject that has about 60 entries:

Ok, I know this list is a bit old... but wow - what a perfect addition to this list. Just played this this weekend. The lid comes off, and the rest of the box turns into this interactive game with moving floors, hidden parts, and trap-doors. Really neat little memory game for kids (that adults probably won't mind playing.)
