To celebrate 10 years of PNP games, I'll go for THE game, that started the trend in my eyes:

Zombie in my Pocket

ZIMP is a tile laying solitaire game pitting you against zombies invading your house. All you have to do is survive the night.
Sounds simple - right?

Ha! Go and see for yourself!

I've had this printed for ages. This month, I'm finally going to do it. Also, one of my categories for the 12 x 12 Creative is to make and play a PNP every month, so this will take care of January.

EDIT: Built, played, disappointed. Pretty low-quality rendering, and turns out to be a beta from 2018. I see what they're trying to do with it, and the retail will likely be wonderful, but art is meh, and card orientation is all over the place. Glad I put in the time, though!

I’m lucky enough to have access to commercial printing and finishing at work, but this still a lot to make. Almost 400 cards, ~40 map tiles and too many tokens to count. (I bought an arch punch just for this game.)

It’s worth it though. The game is fun and thematic. It feels like playing the Walking Dead!

Now to finish the Jurassic Perils expansion!

An Infamous Traffic: I purchased the PnP version before Hollanspiele was letting it go. I have some local printers here in the city I live who are good at what they do. I will have to find the time to print it off at some point. The other challenge is finding the required number of people for this and then willing to take this on ...

Sprawlopolis
I got this a while ago after reading all the great things about it. I still haven't printed it yet!

Circle the Wagons
Got this one too as a double deal along with Sprawlopolis

Oklahoma Boomers
Another one that I am interested in...

Hopefully it will get done this month

Apparently, Mü is much harder to find now (at least in Canada). So I'm designing my own custom version with simpler, more minimalist artwork (as my graphic art skills are very limited.) Also, my friends complained that the blue and green suits are hard to differentiate under low light conditions.

So in my version:
* Adding suit symbols to the card index
* Use simple shapes instead of animals as suits (because of my limited art skills)
* Using ranks 1-10 instead of 0-9 (0 as a rank annoys me a bit)

They'll look similar to this:

2. I also printed alien cruisers and fighters from Eclipse: Rise of the Ancients. I think that aliens from the base game are too weak.

10 YEARS OF "What Print 'n Play Games are you crafting or planning on crafting this month?" congratulations to all involved in PNP!

I'm about 10 years in boardgame hobby, and for me it closely related with PNP. PNP helps me to overcome various stresses (like sports, reading, walking, boardgaming, etc.) and its a kind of my creative activity.

Picked up some PnPs lately. This is the first one I have finished.

It is a simple built:

- 3 pages for the rule book
- 1 page for the player board
- 4 pages for the cards and tokens

I did not print the backs as they are only for cosmetic reasons.

My very first build of the new year is an early playtest version of a new standalone expansion for Sprawlopolis, working title Sprawlopolis: Farmlands. A very basic double sided print on 80gsm paper, then laminated (because I find it easier to shuffle laminated cards than sleeved ones!)

From gallery of cattarn

The game currently plays very much like the original, although differing species of livestock on one terrain type add another thing to think about. There is a high probability that there will be a way to combine these cards with the original ones in some way and Button Shy will undoubtedly work their artistic magic before it reaches release.

Made my third version of Skull [Skulls & Roses] the previous ones were charms stuck inside empty coffee capsules and hand painted poker chips.

This version is printed on A4 80gsm label sticker laminated with 75 micron matt sheets then punched with a 32mm leather punch and stuck to 11.5 gram poker chips, I removed one side of the chips laminate value sticker. There one in top middle of the photo.

Poker chips come up on Amazon warehouse with a really nice case for PNP games and it's less than 5c per chip.

The theme is Day of the Dead Skulls and Flowers

The time I had to craft in December was mostly spent on this, but I only just finished all the components this week, so here it is in January!

Azul, with azul-colored tiles! The thrift store gods granted me a great boon with a mostly full gallon-bag of 25mm-wide learning/counting squares in four colors, just asking to be stickered into boardgames. I still have a ton left.

I don't have many space themed games in my collection, so I am going to give this one a try. I did read through the rules first, this time around. Pretty much everything is printed in a rudimentary fashion, (on card stock), so I can see if it'll be hanging around. I found an assortment of files here at BGG and went with whatever struck my fancy, as seen below...

I think we'll have fun with it: it's on the 'simpler-ish' side, but not too. I want to go all miniatures on it, if we like it.

I guess it was my turn to craft Calico. Pretty straightforward build but here are some details.

1. After some hesitation I finally decided to make double layer player boards. Printed everything twice, glued to 1mm chipboard, cut out the top « frame » and glued onto the bottom piece. I started with one trial board to check how tiles would fit within the frame. Although the board hexes are already 0.5mm wider than tile hexes, it was not enough to compensate for my tile cutting inaccuracies. It proved to be quite tricky to fill in the frame completely without the last tile or two sticking out. I didn’t want to print the boards again so I decided to cut the inside of the frame a little further out than the actual edge. It looks ok and the tiles fit in easily.

From gallery of tomaszek

2. I didn’t want the cat tokens to be the same size as buttons, so I prepared bigger custom ones. The designers say «[…] we are waiting for the custom cat artwork for the tokens and scoring cards, and we will update these components when it is complete (expect an update in January) » , so I might want to craft them again anyway. I have no special tools to cut out rounded shapes so I had to use a pair of scissors. With 1mm chipboard it is not fun but still doable if the pieces are not too small.

From gallery of tomaszek

3. And finally the most tedious part - cutting out tiny button shapes. To ease my pain a little, I went for two layers of cereal box type card instead of chipboard. Still considered using real buttons half way through but finally managed to finish the job.

PnP files can be found in the thread.

1-2 Player hand management and tableau building game.
This is a streamlined and smaller version of Crazy Cat Lady. This version uses one deck of cards with negative events on one side and various benefits on the other side. By acquiring and playing these cards you can gain more points per turn.

Printed Materials:
18 Front/Back Cards

CARDS
Printed out on full sheet labels and mounted to thrift store cards. The designer labeled the rows and columns of cards for each file so you know exactly what is the front and back for each card. Very thankful for that.

From gallery of Brazillb2

THOUGHTS
Super easy build. Only 18 cards. I didn't have the best experience playing the original Crazy Cat Lady but I'm anticipating this one to much more my speed. Probably won't get this one played 2 player cooperatively but I like that the option is there. I also like that at the end of the rules, the designer listed a few ways to increase or decrease the difficulty. The theme on this one speaks to me more as well.

PLAYED? Not yet

KEEPING? Have to try it at least. I expect to keep this one after playing, as it's replaced Crazy Cat Lady and doesn't take up much room at all.

UPDATE
Made a person PnP list for my builds. BBs PnPs
Over the holidays, I've continued to build and play but haven't had time to post. A few of my outstanding builds will be coming in the next couple of days as I try to catch back up.

PnP files bought from pnparcade ($1 at time of posting)

3-8 Player bluffing/deduction game.
In the game, the dealer will choose and distribute wine/poison cards and each player has an opportunity to keep theirs and drink it, or swap with another player. It's quick, fun and sneaky and works with a large group.

Printed Materials:
16 Cards (8 wine, 8 poison)

CARDS
Had the perfect cards for this game. Printed on full sheet labels and mounted to those cards. Files also included backs but I didn't need to use them.

From gallery of Brazillb2

THOUGHTS
Easy peasy build and a great game. Definitely a must build in my opinion and that's taking into consideration that a purchase is necessary. Rules say it only plays up to 8 but you can play with 16 if everyone is fine with half of the players being eliminated in the first round. This one is going to be coming with me everywhere I go.

PLAYED? Absolutely. Many times. This game is so easy to explain and quick to play. This has essentially beaten Rock, Paper, Scissors as the go to tie breaker. Dealer gives cards to each player (not random, actually selects who gets what). There are wine (good) and poison (bad) cards and the dealer has to include at least one of each. Then in turn order starting with the player to the dealer's right, each player decides if they want to flip the card they have or trade with someone who hasn't flipped yet. Go around the table once, the dealer does not get that decision since they dealt the cards, and everyone who hasn't flipped yet, turns over their card. Players with poison cards are eliminated and players with wine cards move on to the next round. Repeat until there is only one player left. It's amazing that the dealer gets to determine how many wine and poison cards will be in the round and nobody else knows.

KEEPING? Without a doubt. Everyone should grab this one.

Started this before Christmas as well as a few other difficult to find out of print games. Images were found on Tabletop Simulator and/or the internet, then edited and arranged by me. Cards are printed double sided on 250gsm card and laminated with 75 micron gloss and matt. Cubes are wood 10mm painted with warhammer paints and gloss varnish. Coins came from Charterstone. Board is printed onto 2 A3 80gsm labels then laminated with 80micron matt and stuck to 1500 micron cardstock, using a 6cm strip on the underside of the join. Kaispeicher board is similar but fits on a single A4 card. Box is a re purposed Trivial pursuit.

1-5 Player worker movement game.
Grease Monkey Garage is a family-friendly shared worker placement game. Move your Specialists and the commonly shared workers between the locations to gain vehicles for repair, new resources or to trade parts required to fix the cars. Once you have fixed a car, return it to the happy customer and gain victory points. Each round a new Event Card will be revealed, altering the game rules with positive effects or penalties to cope with. Adjust your strategy accordingly and become the manager with the best reputation after returning 6 cars to customers. A secret bonus card will reward you with extra points for a specific type and color of cars fixed.

Printed Materials:
24 Vehicle Cards
8 Bonus Cards
8 Shop Tiles
5 Player Mats
56 Resource Tokens

Additional Materials:
13 Meeples (2 per player + 3 other)

CARDS
Two different types of cards so mounted to two different card backs. The files do include backs but I decided not to use. I had some cards that worked for the Vehicle cards but nothing in particular for the Bonus cards. For consistency's sake I just went with a plain background and did not use the backs for the Bonus cards.

TILES
The rules have these listed as cards, but I made them a little more premium by mounting to 50pt chipboard. There were also two images that had different numbers on the cards, these are for the starting layouts of a normal and more difficult game. I wrote those numbers on them before covering with laminate. There's always the option to lay them out randomly, but figured it would be easiest to have those numbers on the tiles themselves when I want to use them. Then I took each to the corner rounder.

MATS
Just like the shop tiles, these were also intended to be cards (which is appreciated, space is a premium). I made these a bit thinner than the tiles with some super thick cardstock. No backs for these.

TOKENS
Was able to make these double sided with the layout of the file. Printed on full sheet labels, mounted to 50pt chipboard, and covered in laminate. I might end up rounding the corners but wanted to see if it's a keeper first.

THOUGHTS
Bit of a harder build with the tokens, shop tiles, and player mats. But those were personal choices, those can easily be resource cubes and cards. Big fan of worker placement and this has a bit of spin on that. Instead of being able to have only one worker on each place, this one removes that exclusivity rule and adds in workers have to move to an adjacent space.

PLAYED? Not yet.

KEEPING? Would like to try before deciding. Even with the "premium" components, this game doesn't take up all that much space so it definitely has serious potential to stick around.

B&W PnP files were picked up from the Kickstarter campaign.

2-6 Player word area control game.
Handsome is an elegant word game for 2 to 6 players using only 18 consonant cards. Featuring a unique combination of word building and set collection, players compete to create words that will score in each suit (bow ties, necklaces and bolos) using a combination of 5 shared cards and a secret hand available only to them. In each round, players secretly write down a word they can using the available consonants. Players can add any vowels they need to create their word except ‘Y’. Each card features one of 3 suits and the player who uses the most cards of that suit in their word scores a point for the round. Players may score in multiple suits. The player with the longest word also scores a point. The first player to reach 9 points wins!

Printed Materials:
18 Cards

CARDS
Used my normal method. Had some cards leftover from a deck I had used previously and it worked out perfectly. The demo was only in B&W.

THOUGHTS
Super easy build. I like the relatively high player count for an 18 card game. Also, word games are pretty appealing to people that aren't super deep in the hobby.

PLAYED? Not yet. But I really don't see this one going unplayed for long unless I completely forget about it or it gets lost on the shelf.

KEEPING? Probably. Button Shy seems to have an easy time sticking around.

PnP files (various designs) are available in the files section of the BGG page

1 Player worker placement and pseudo route building game.
Maquis is a solitaire worker-placement game with variable goals and a play time of approximately twenty minutes. The player places their resistance agents on spaces around town to achieve his goals - blowing up trains, publishing underground newspapers - but at the same time Milice collaborators and Wehrmacht soldiers patrol the area. Agents who can't make it back to the safe house at the end of the day are arrested, and never seen again.

Printed Materials:
1 Board
18 Various Cards
39 Various Tokens/Tiles

Additional Materials:
15 Meeples (5 of each white, blue, and red)

BOARD
Mounted to 50pt chipboard and covered in laminate. Cut and taped just right for a quad-fold. My printed messed up a bit on one edge so I cut it smaller than intended but I bet you wouldn't even have know if I didn't say anything. Decided to round the corners because why not?

From gallery of Brazillb2

CARDS
Files included backs for the Mission and Patrol cards so I took advantage of those since I didn't have anything thematic enough to warrant printing them without backs. 10 Patrol Cards, 6 Mission Cards, a Reference Card, and a card with two tracks.

TOKENS
Just like the board, these were mounted to 50pt chipboard and covered with laminate. Square tokens were easy enough to make double sided but I wasn't going to try to make that happen with the Spare Room Tiles. The square tokens were cut with my guillotine cutter and the Spare Room Tiles were cut by hand with scissors (what a pain!). All the tokens besides the spare rooms could easily be replaced by some resource cubes, but the files are there to make the imaged tokens which is nice. There are also images for the pawns but I went with meeples for those.

THOUGHTS
A bit of work to get this one built but there are certainly bigger ones out there. A medium build for sure which could be made easier by replacing the resources with cubes. I really like that this game has some redesigns out there so you can pick whichever one you like best. Another spin on worker placement where the worker spaces are places throughout a town, you can go anywhere but the police will patrol spaces as well and you have to be able to make your way back to the safe house or shoot the police; otherwise you get taken away. I noticed that there is also an app out there for this one so maybe play before you print, or even just get the app and leave it as that, but I would say this one is worth printing.

PLAYED? Yes. I played one game and got absolutely destroyed. Made it a few rounds though so I was able to get a good feeling for the game. This one is pretty cool. Right out the gate, you can tell that it's going to take a few steps to get where you need to be to complete the mission. One of the missions I started with required that I build explosives, the only thing is explosives can only be built in a spare room which has to be built itself. So you're not going to be able to beat this in one turn. Like in all good worker placement games, you can gain more workers but there are some brilliant negatives that come with the new recruits. The more workers you have, the more patrol men come out. Also, with more workers, there's a greater chance that all the spaces on the patrol card will be taken and then the police will come knocking on doors and take away one of your team and one of your morale. Great work all around.

KEEPING? Definitely. It's a fun game that left me wanting more. Not to mention, with all those different mission cards (6 total and you randomly pick 2 each game), there is going to be so much variety. All said and done, it doesn't take up all that much space with how I built it either. Really excited to give this one another go.

Board Game: Doctor Smuglfreud's Marvelous Machine
Microgame with 9 cards. It was an easy build. I build them like usually and sleeved them afterwards.
The Tokens are printed with the 3D Printer, because we didn't have peenies. Maybee in the future I will use some cent coins or I will build some money tokens. There are a lot of free files to find

Board Game: Upstairs
Microgame with 9 cards. I build it at the same time as Dr. Smuglfreuds
The meeples are printed with the 3D Printer. I did print a lot of meeples and tokens last year in summer.

I had a problem how to store those microgames. I saw I nice method at the geeklist of lovemyfire, but unfortuanally those gum containers are not aviable in Germany. I found some nice tin boxes.

Now all of my microgames have a new home. I did reordered them, because 5 where to few
