This time I was preplanning quite some time on how to get everything into the box in a way to allow for optimal game setup process (boards out first etc.) The box looks bigger than it finally was.

This insert also has space for the expansion cards.

Starting from top to bottom in setup order:

All fits perfectly, no lid lift. On top the rulebooks and a comprehensive setup & game overview sheet I created. It's in German and can be found in the file section of Aquasphere.

Board Game: AquaSphere

First layer with Headquarter board and programming tiles covered by a lid.

Board Game: AquaSphere

2nd layer with Research Station tiles, Research Cards, Base Labs, Center Tiles, Expansion Cards and Program Cards (under Expansion Cards).

Board Game: AquaSphere

Layer can be easily removed (hole to lift) after Research Station tiles are set up.

Board Game: AquaSphere

3rd layer has personal component boxes for each player and the general supply box. The lab expansion box is 3 layers high and can easily be taken out at this stage.

Board Game: AquaSphere

The bottom layer holds player boards and all cards I don't require (blank cards, setup cards, expansion cover cards etc.)

Board Game: AquaSphere

Finally the "Everything out of the box overview"

Board Game: AquaSphere

Initially stuffed base game and all expansions I own into the base game box which worked fine to some extent but it was so full that I always had to puzzle all content out and back in after a game.

Now I use a metal suitcase with a simple foamboard insert.

************ U P D A T E *************

Had time to rework the initial solution now and made everything fitting perfectly into the suitcase. Removed all zipbags except 1 for the tiny tunnel tokens.

Board Game: Carcassonne

Each player got its own meeple box.

Board Game: Carcassonne

Count, pig and Princess found their place in a gap on the left side. I used pieces of foam to fixate them.

Board Game: Carcassonne

The dragon is stored in the lid of the suitcase also kept in place by foam.

Board Game: Carcassonne

Wine, Cloth and Wheat tokens in the gap on the right side are kept in place by a foam cover in the lid.

Board Game: Carcassonne

Instructions & Wheel of Fortune board are stored in the lid which closes perfectly without leaving any gaps. Nothing moves around inside the suitcase.

An insert for China. No component overkill in this game but still a few zip bags which didn't really fit properly into the original simple cardboard insert. Nothing difficult, done in a few hours without any plan.

Board Game: China

The box is only 3cm high. I still managed to build a 2-level tray for the card supply by partly using 3mm foam core. In the lower level are the cards for 4th and 5th player as well as the 50+ VP cards stored separately. As we are mainly playing at 3P it is easier this way to avoid forgetting to remove these cards during game setup. Now I only need to place the card tray on the table and we can start.

Board Game: China

I used the original paperboard insert as flattened bottom layer. It is more beautiful than just plain grey cardboard of the box.

My 3rd insert so far and a more tricky one as box height inside is only 3cm - had to work more carefully than on previous inserts to avoid box lid lift. The very small tokens made the construction quite fiddly in addition.

It was the first time I built such a dispenser for the round wooden pieces, but really like the final look of it (it's fixed to the tray). Surrounding boxes are removable to allow grabbing the wooden pieces and also the player boards easily.

Everything is finally covered by the rules book.

All components in the box.

The bottom of card dispenser is slightly angled so cards always tend to move towards the back wall.

Recently Hawaii was selected by my family members as one of the games to play in a game night. Haven't played this for quite a long time but quickly remembered the laborious setup after opening the box with all the plastic bags and small pieces.

I remembered having read something about foamboard inserts recently and luckily found this fantastic geek list plus more info how to do.

So this is my first foamboard insert. Inspired by the previous insert posts for Hawaii I decided to have similar dispensers for the individual place tiles as this will speed up setup extremely. Thank you

, great idea!

Finally tried getting the insert done to support game setup order and avoid having to take out material first which is required last.

As I store most of my games vertical I ensured nothing gets misplaced.
Could even store it upside down now and nothing moves

My box now has 4 tray levels.

1. Island frame tiles (covered by rulebook)

From gallery of lajr

2. Main island tiles, player huts, player boards and 1 removable dispenser for individual place tiles (as there was some space left).

From gallery of lajr

3. Resources, bag with price tokens and player pieces for 3 players (incl. start resources) as 2 or 3 is our normal setup

From gallery of lajr

From gallery of lajr

4. dispensers for individual place tiles, islands, Kampuas Nest extension and player pieces for 4th and 5th player. Due to the little angled foam piece easy grabbing of all dispensers is possible.
I'll add a printout of the last level underneath to always know how to put dispensers back into the box after gameplay.

From gallery of lajr

I had to limit the height of the last layer to 5 cardboard tiles per pile and just made 2 dispensers for boats and surfers. Once one is empty it can be refilled or replaced. Kahunas and Tikis had to be placed horizontal as well as piles would have been too high overwise.

From gallery of lajr

That's it.
Apologies for the long text. You may have recognized that I am still quite excited how good my first try turned out.

This insert does not only store game components and allow a quick game setup next to the game board - this also replaces the game board.

I will use the lid of the box as stand for a production tracker meeple, which is not part of the game. Had to rework all graphics to make them fitting the insert size.

After I sleeved all cards of the Heritage Edition (including all the campaign cards), these didn't fit into the grey box anymore in which I initally stored all base game cards, all bowls with cubes and all token in zip bags. The grey box was much more slim than the heritage box and ideal to take the game to game nights.

From gallery of lajr

Time for a foam core insert - which allows a much quicker game setup.

In addition to the base game insert described above, here's the Heritage box solution:

As the Heritage box contains 2 campaigns which add secret components to the base game, I am putting images showing secret components and complementary text into a spoiler box.

I cut original foam panels and reduced their width to use them as lid for the card boxes.

From gallery of lajr

Foam lids removed

From gallery of lajr

Spoiler (click to reveal)

The second box contains Krystallium cubes as production of it happens after culture production, culture tokens, worker meeples, turn marker and removable boards. The worker production board is double sided (A & B).

Turn marker is at the end and will be moved after the production tracker meeple (orange / taken from Heimlich & Co. spare meeple set) reached that position.

The culture production board was extremely fiddly to build as it is a dual layer board with 7 tracks of 5 cube spots. 2 of the 7 tracks are covered by a plain black paper. In case a culture production board add on for 6th and 7th player will be part of Ascension expansion it will replace the plain paper.

Ascension expansion components will also fit into the bottom layer box.
Looking forward to get the expansion in aprox. 7 monthes (unless the publisher is able to improve delivery date like in last KS).

The plan is now to store all empty tuckboxes and game boards of the Heritage box flattened in the Ascension box. Let's see if that will work.
