Breakout Con 2020 is just around the corner (October 30-November 1, 2020 with gaming around the clock from Friday 10am - Sunday 6pm)!

There's tons of open gaming with an extensive (and now searchable) game library including additional Play to Win games, boardgame and RPG events, but we've found it useful to also have a place where people can connect to set up games in advance.

There are lots of events already in the schedule, many of them run by Breakout special guests - register for those using the official event schedule, not here.

Maybe you're looking for
- A high player count?
- An epic long game?
- Something heavy?
- 18xx?
- Wargames?
- A specific game you've been wanting to play, or players to fill a game you're bringing?
- Maybe you just like to be organized,
- Or like many in our hobby, you tend toward the introverted or shy side and feel much more comfortable connecting online first, rather than approaching new people at the table.

Any of those is a great reason to use this list!

For me, this was how I met a number of gaming friends who I now regularly game with outside of BreakoutCon.

How do you do it?
1. Scan through the list for games you might like.
2. Comment on the game listing (not the comments for this list itself - that's the comments at the very bottom, if you have any questions about how this works) if you're interested, or interested in another session of the same game.
3. Add an item for a game you want to play that's not listed, or full.
- copy the info below
- click Add Item near the top of this header post
- choose the boardgame you want to play
- paste the info, and fill it out
- submit the entry, and it's there for others to join!

To keep things organized, if you're adding a game item please also copy in and fill out the following information:

Player slots available: Minimum/Maximum/Preferred - don't forget to include yourself in the player count!
Players: yourself and fill them in as people join so it's obvious how many are left
Length: how long will it take to play, and include the rules teach if you're taking new players or need to set it up. Overestimate - games play much slower with new players at Cons.
Preferred time/day: be as specific/vague as you want; as people reply, you can work out a definitive timeslot
I'm bringing the game: yes (you're bringing it) or no (you're looking to play someone else's copy)
Expansions/variants: if any
Experience level: are newbies welcome? Only experienced players?
General notes: if there are any other things you want to mention, like where you're planning to meet up at the set time?

If you click on Subscribe to this geeklist, you'll get a BGG notification every time someone adds/updates/comments on an item. Or you can subscribe to just the item for games you're involved with.

And as a courtesy, make sure you let the game runner know if your plans change, so you don't keep the other gamers waiting.

And don't overschedule yourself - you don't want to keep people waiting on your next game too often. And don't forget to factor in time for eating, especially with BreakoutCon downtown in Toronto with lots of options!

For Play to Win and library games you can't reserve a specific title, they're all first come, first served. But you could coordinate to find players here and then find time to play sometime during the weekend - why not aim for first thing on one of the days?

If you'd like to run one of these games as an official boardgame event in the schedule, or help with registration or staffing the game library contact the organizers about volunteering.

Again in 2020 Breakout is offering the Family Gaming Hall, see here for details.

And don't forget to leave some time to check out the Bring and Buy Auction - a chance to sell some of your old games and pick up one you've been looking for!

Working on a game or like to playtests for up and coming designers? ProtoTO is teaming up with Breakout again!

Have fun, and see you at BreakoutCon!

Time/Day: Saturday morning 9am
Time Required: ~3 hours including teaching and setup
Player Count: 4-9
Openings: 4 - 8
Experience Level: if you like trading, negotiation, and upgrading resources for techs in a Euro game, you're welcome to join
Willing to teach: Yes, but read the rules first

Game Copy: I have copy

Notes:

This is a trading and negotiation game! With a lot of simultaneous parts of the turn including timed trading sessions!
If you don't like trading and negotiation, you will probably dislike to hate it - and it's not fun to be a part of a long game you're not enjoying, and can bring things down for the whole group.

But if this sounds exciting to you, come learn it with us!

The rulebook is available on BGG:
https://www.boardgamegeek.com/filepage/147518/sidereal-confl...

This does not include each race's player sheets and cards, which are not online, and you'll have to look over.

There are 4 simpler races and 5 harder ones - I'm happy to take a hard one.

Player Slots:
1) Jamie
2) Robin
3) ArcanumTL
4) Daryl -qweable
5) Logan -perogiepizza
6) Earl
7) + friend
8)
X

The tricky part is that different races have very asymmetrical setups, resources, difficulty and play styles.

So to that end, the races by difficulty are, from the introduction in the book:

First 4 are recommended for new players:
K1 - need green, have colonies- good for razor sharp focus on goals and tools to achieve them

C2 - need ships and colonies, very open to different goals. For a player comfortable choosing their own path without direction

K2 - strong economy they can craft, more independent. Good for a player who enjoys analysis and puzzles

F3 - have relic worlds that are random with situationally powerful abilities. Recommended for players who enjoy being surprised, and like to adapt to strange new opportunities midway. Fun but hard to win for a new player

Z3* - run a protection racket to get paid off or steal from others. Recommended for players who are good at being mean and threatening... but less recommended if other players are new. I think we could handle them, we just need to be aware

I4 - space nomads with extremely strong economy when maximized, but fragile and works differently because it's based on ships not colonies. Well defined but insatiable resource needs. Requires making complex bargains.

E5 - resource poor and can make others very rich. Very collaborative, and require a player who is skilled at reading the others game stages and seeing opportunity in it.

U5 - introduce wild resources, produce what everyone needs and can consume their garbage. Need to make challenging negotiations, often trading quality for quantity, with patience, and the way they use the trade and economy phases is almost backwards.

Y6 - require a very strong understanding of everyone's game state and what they need, including the tech tree dependencies. Recommended for experienced players who like to pay attention to many things at once. Need to collaborate to turn their wealth into points.

If you're new, I recommend you choose something that jives with your natural play style or interests to maximize the fun in a first play.

If we have fewer than max players we will skip the Zeth. I would be happy to play a smaller game (maybe 5P?) to see how it goes with a more unbalanced economy, and it lets everyone trade with each other all the time. But it's been too long and I want to play again at Breakout!

Time/Day: Friday 10am
Time Required: Varies quite a bit but let's say 4 hours or more
Player Count: up to 7 should probably max out at 5 though
Openings: 4
Experience Level: Beginners welcome. Will teach.

I have a copy, with the Borg expansion. Also have the Ferengi and Cardassian expansions and should have the Vulcan and Andorian expansions so can play up to 7 but that might be kind of crazy.

Expansions/variants: Would like to use the Borg expansion. We can also play with a variant that evens out the starting planet distribution since it can be very swingy, if everyone is good with that.

Time/day: 10am Sunday.

Length: 25min teach + 30-45min per player (assuming no significant AP)

Player slots available: Listing with a 3p cap, will increase to 4p if there is strong interest. The game works fine at all player counts, just is longer without much of a payoff with more players.

Players:
1. Kush R (anim8r)
2. Cameron Ross(Life101)
3. OPEN
4. (maybe)

I'm bringing the game: yes

Expansions/variants: The game has a few "expansions" but they are more like modules which kinda add-up to a full-experience without much rule overheads. Will be throwing a few of them in.

Experience level: No need to know the game or prep before-hand, but should be familiar with Euro game mechanics and not too AP prone as this game allows you to indulge in your AP tendencies generously (we would police each other if needed)

Notes: It is a "Civ" game, just like Tapestry is. Similar complexity, more depth and next to zero randomness.
