Shameless self promotion:

This is my contribution for the 2 player PNP contest.

If you are into a sports game with action programming mechanics, this might be your cup of tea.

I'm planning on making 18Dracula! I've been kind of interested in 18xx games, but the awful appearance is offputting, no way I'm spending a hundred dollars for some lines on a folded piece of paper.

I can draw my own lines! 18Dracula is supposed to be based on 1830 which is well respected among the 18xx people, and it's got a cool theme of delivering blood to your master, different monsterous companies to invest in, I'm hoping it will be a fun Halloween game as well!

https://nerdygentleman.itch.io/18dracula
contains all the files, and the option to contribute to the author for all his hard work.

I ordered the wooden pieces from railsonboards, printed out some nice color/glossies of the rest and am in the process of snipping and glueing!

Essentially completed yesterday. Got a sample square of 2" white marble bathroom floor tiles, and another of black marble. removed from backing, cleaned backs, put adhesive (duct tape) on the backs so they don't scratch up table surfaces, got a chess pieces box to keep them in. Kind of heavy but super nice set.

2" tiles are actually pretty big for table top play. I'd prefer 1.5" but haven't found them in that size.

Making a homemade copy of For Sale (Pro Performance Baseball) for my brother a huge baseball fan. Re-theming it into a sports game is fun. It's been 9 years since I've seen him so I figured I'd make him something that he can take back home with him. He is arriving in early April so I've got a little extra time to get it finished.

I honestly don't remember how I got to the 2019 Wargame Print and Play Contest but, after taking a quick look over the games there, I got intrigued by A Rusty Throne. Easy to built, easy rules, why not try it?

Status: PLAYED 3.5 times (the first one got interrupted by dinner): 2 lost 1 win
Next step: sleeve.

Overall thoughts: the game seemed interesting at the beginning, but a bit repetitive/boring on the long run. The last game was my win (I made a goal to at least win once) and, 2/3 in, I felt I was doing the same over and over: attack, retreat, defend, attack, retreat, defend, ...

I liked the main idea of everything playing with the same cards: having to decide what to play knowing what can happen with your decision and what you leave in your hands to defend and attack. Also, how the priority system works. Quite neat all that.

But the game played didn't connect with me. Maybe in a 2p scenario and a shorter game would work. But, as a solitaire game, it is not something I will hold on too much longer.

This is my first attempt at a PnP game, but I have my next game lined up already.

Since I was printing A Rusty Throne last friday, I thought "why not something else more?"

This one has been on my hard drive for quite a few years and I never ended up getting myself interested on trying it. Now that it is already half way done, let's see how it goes.

Status: Played

Overall thoughts: I had this game in my data base for quite a lot of time now and the expectations rised with that waiting. Probably, that situation put it on a tough spot, given I was hopping more from it than what the game gave me.
Played 3 games (solo playing both sides) in a row: criminal won once, police twice.
It is a fast game, I will give it that. There are smart moves to be done and a bit of a chess dance to see who is going to do the first mistake. I can't say it is a bad game... but I didn't engage with it. What it's a shame.
I am still curious to try Odin Quest at some point.

I built this as I have been interested in the expansion on Kickstarter so figured I should try it out.

It looks like a neat little game but wanted to make sure it wasn't to light

I just got it put together and plan to try it out here shortly. It took about 3 hours to print, cut and round the corners.

Tinyforming Mars

I've got original files frome the authors (thanks to GamerMike and Cheryllion) and shall translate them to Russian.
I'm interested in Terraforming Mars but its too long and too complicated to play with kids. So I'll craft its tiny version.

Flowerbase (Space Base redesign)

My kids like Machi Koro. And I find it a little bit boring. So I want to craft "Flowerbase" - 3-player redesign for "Space Base". (You can find it at Files section).

Reigns: The Council

We regularly play games with our non-gamer relatives and friends. So I choose this asymmetrical party game for my next project too.

Hansa Teutonica

I want to test this excellent euro game.

Future plans (after finishing previous games):
Project Discovery
Iron Curtain (translate)

I was looking for some PnP games for a friend who loves things Ancient Rome and found this title. I used the files found in the files section to try first for myself, and after I had it sprayed, glued, cut and dice ordered that fit, I was looking for a rule clarification and noticed a v.2 had been posted in the News section. So I'm off now to put that together and re-learn the modified rules. Thankfully I only put a couple of hours into learning the first version and didn't really get a start. But it might be fun to actually try both once I get the second version going.
I'm looking forward to playing this and learning something about a period of history I've never studied, and hopefully getting one made that I can send to my colleague. He might not have the time and energy to play, but I think he'll at least like having it "on the shelf".

I developed this PnP game last year but when I recently re-read the rule book I discovered that is was unclear . Furthermore, the rules for solo play were too complicated. I had to fix it at once!
PlusMinusOne is a simple game in which you roll dice and mark scoring sheets like the following one (sorry, I cannot scale it down because it is an external image):
External image

I was inspired by games like Knapp Daneben! and Dizzle but I wanted to make a minimalist game in which the rules were the simplest possible while still providing some interaction between the players. PlusMinusOne's gameplay only requires approximately 600 words, plus one additional page dedicated to scoring. I included in the rulebook one page to describe Level-2 games and how to play solo, and a two-page partial run-through of a two-player game.

All you need to play it is two dice per player (1 to 6 players but with a minimum of five dice), the scoresheet you can download from http://zambon.com.au/games/completed/PlusMinusOne/, and a pen.

Let me know what you think, including if you shoot it down mercilessly!

Hey everyone! Been a while since I posted here, because it's been a while since I built a game. Recently moved, so things have been hectic. But I would like to share my current PnP project with you.

I like The Mandalorian on Disney+.

I like deck building games.

There is currently no Mandalorian deck building game. Indeed, no decent Mandalorian game, period.

So I made one.

More precisely, I took Felbrigg Herriot's excellent 52-card solo deck building game, Wipers Salient, and rethemed it to The Mandalorian.

However, I wasn't interested in a pasted-on theme. I obsessively researched the original concept art paintings for the show, tweaked them where necessary to better suit the mood of my retheme, paired each up with an appropriate quote from the TV show (it's a very quotable show, as it turns out), changed the title of each card. I wanted a Mandalorian retheme that was deeply, profoundly dripping with theme.

It took me a while. I became quite obsessed with the project.

Then, because I love custom playmats, I designed one for this retheme as well. Integrating not only spaces for all the different decks and card rows, but also a game setup and turn sequence aid, because otherwise I tend to play it wrong. Also included the Health and Morale tracks on the playmat.

Played a couple of games tonight. Registered a high score of 20 in my second game. The game experience and sheer self-satisfaction in finally playing a good game featuring the Mandalorian, rethemed by me, printed and played by me, were exquisite.

1-5 Player area control hand management game.
In Animal Kingdoms, each player takes on the role of a house leader, battling to gain control of the five kingdoms. Cards in your hand represent noble beasts that have pledged their allegiance to you. Over the course of three ages, you must deploy your beasts to the various territories – making sure that you adhere to each kingdom’s decree – to try and improve your influential position in the kingdoms. The house that gains the most influence by the end of the third age is declared the one true leader of the realm.

Printed Materials:
1 Board
1 Score Track
64 Cards
30 Mini Cards
37 Tokens

Additional Materials:
95 Player Pieces (19 in 5 colors)

BOARDS
Both boards were printed on full sheet labels and mounted to 50pt chipboard then covered with laminate. The scoretrack was straight forward, but the board was a bit more tricky with the odd shape. Also, the file for the board has two pages, one has the actual board image and the other has the cut lines. I wasn't sure how exactly to utilize those cut lines without them being on the image and I wanted the board to be a bit bigger than a single sheet would allow. So I printed it out on four pages with some overlap and had to do a bunch of measuring, eyeballing, and cutting. There's a small gap but I'm not even worried about it. I think the extra work was worth it to get the bigger board. Got quad fold for the board and the scoretrack has a bi fold that went straight down the middle line so it's practically hidden.

CARDS
The playing cards were printed on full sheet labels and mounted to playing cards. I didn't use the backs but they are available in files. For the decree cards, I mounted front and back to cardstock and covered both sides in laminate, then rounded the corners.

TOKENS
Mounted front and back to chipboard and laminated. I'll probably round the corners on these eventually but they're going to stay square for now.

THOUGHTS
This was a tricky build. There are lot of cards, a good amount of tokens, and the board was harder than normal (but that is mostly on me for wanting a bigger board). Got a bit of builders block with this one because I was trying to figure out how to tackle the board. But I got it done so I'm happy. I'm using the teaching resource cubes for the player pieces, added one each for the scoretrack. I've read the rules for this one a few times and this one will fit as a lighter weight area control game. The solo rules also seem interesting and from just reading. seems like it would be pretty difficult which I like.

PLAYED? Not yet. I'm definitely going to have to play a learning game or two just so I lock in all the rules before I teach. This one is a bit lighter so I think it'll get some plays soon.

KEEPING? Very likely.

Orchard is a quick solitaire 'tile laying' game that plays in under 10 minutes. The aim of the game is to harvest fruit (score points) by playing cards so that their fruit trees overlap other trees already in the orchard that bear the same fruit. The more trees you can overlap, the more fruit you'll pick.

Printed on full sheet labels and mounted to cards. Wasn't sure which fronts corresponded to which backs. I found the answer in the forums, the two sheets are just flipped on the long edge.

ADDITIONAL MATERIALS
The rules suggest to use dice. But you're only ever going to use the 1, 3, and 6 sides. So to save space and get rid of those useless sides, I just wrote each number twice on resource cubes. I always felt like the worst thing about using dice to track resources was that I would flip and flip the die and never seem to find the side I need. Hopefully, having two of each number will reduce that endless flipping. Added two more of each color!

THOUGHTS
Such an easy build! I always see this one popping up so I figured I'd finally get around to building it. The rules are dead simple too. Definitely would give this one a must build. I also discovered that there is an 18 card version, which would let you play two games back to back and participate in Solo challenge for the game. So I'm probably going to be making that version at some point as well.

PLAYED? Yes, I got one play in. I get all the excitement over this one now. It plays so quick and there are some great decisions to make in such a small game. Yeah, a lot of your score could come down to lucky or unlucky draws, but it never feels like it since you have a choice of two cards to place AND you get to place them any way you want. The rot cubes also make decisions a little tougher because you can't just place cards on top of each other all willy-nilly, you're limited to only overlapping non-matching flowers twice per game and they are worth negative points if you do. I didn't do so well my first game but I'm hoping to get better and I still had fun doing it.

Noticed that you get 5 dice per fruit, so I made 2 more for each and played another round. Still didn't do great (didn't even use all the cubes) but at least I played it correctly this time. I'm realizing that you should plan for the future as well as the current round.

KEEPING? Absolutely. Very enjoyable little game. I could see myself making another copy to leave at work to pull out during down time.

Still in the planning stage on this one. But I should be able to fit all ten versions (that I know of) on 3 artscow decks.

Got a request from the spouse to bring this back to the table. Working on building the decks as shown in A collection of 30 decks for casual play. With the game being OOP and without the license (transferred to another company) it won't be re-printed. I've picked 10 of the decks in the post above and am assembling them with the cards I have and then using proxynexus.com for the ones I'm missing.

If you had any interest in this game, the community has taken it over. All of the card pool is available to be pnp'ed and there is a very active scene that is run by the community including tournaments and new expansions! Fantastic 2 player game, well worth checking out.

So here is my take on the Grand Carnival.

It's the first time in my pnp career that I start a project with the box. I have recently bought a copy of Dixit from a thrift store only to get a new set of cards different from the one we already had. Since I was left with a very nice medium size box I decided to repurpose it for the Carnival.

The original player boards are close to A3 format so I had to shrink them a little. Fortunately the actual playing area is much smaller than that. I decided to move some elements around using Inkscape and got 25cm x 25cm square fairground boards that do not even need to fold in order to fit in the box. Those were spray glued to some random publicity magazine cover. Since they are pretty thin they lay down flat nicely. As a side effect of this board surgery, I ended up with player aid cards (that I translated to French) and numbered action tiles. Instead of covering an action number on the board one will flip the corresponding tile over.

I have also finished the 56 foundation tiles from the first pnp version, but yesterday I discovered that there were 28 more in the new updated file. I need to add those. Foundations are made of 250 gsm card so they are more like cards than tiles.

UPDATE:

After finishing foundation tiles and trick cards I started working on guest pawns. I found a piece of wooden moulding laying around. Cut two 50cm sections, glued them back to back and sliced into individual pawns. After some additional sanding I got 32 guests and 8 carnival barkers (red).

I also prepared other smaller bits, tokens and markers. I am only left with cutting out those crazy attraction tiles.

UPDATE 2:

Done. In order to organize the components I folded some simple origami boxes. You will find the instructions for square boxes here and for rectangular ones here. Now to play

Managed to make a couple tuck boxes. If I build everything, I don't play it because I can't find it. If I make boxes, it slows my build times down a bit so I'm not swamped with games I haven't played. and the added benefit of finding games too!

I made origami dice for Word Yahtzee. I added to each die face all the letters on each die so players could know at a glance all the possibilities for rerolling. I also color-coded the vowels and consonants as there's a bonus for rolling all vowels and consonants.

Unfortunately, Word Yahtzee sucks more than I remembered! The game has one of the more questionable letter distributions! Only one L, one D, one R, and one T, but two Cs, two Ys and two Ps! One of the Is is on the same cube as the G, so it's harder to make words that end with -ING! Same could be said for one E and one S appearing on the same cube.

Still, the odds of rolling a hard-to-use letter would be too high even if the game had a more balanced letter distribution. I thought of ways to fix this: Use 8- or even 12-sided dice, or putting more than one rare letter on a side of a die, letting a player choose what they want to use.

Then I realized a much easier fix: Use letter playing cards instead of dice!

Custom PnP build of my Simpsons retheme of Felbrigg Herriot's Free Trader.

Plot: Drive around Springfield in The Homer (The Car Built for Homer), trading Donuts, Slingshots, Krusty-O's cereal, and of course, Duff Beer ("Mmmm, can't get enough of that wonderful Duff"). Watch out for Nelson and the other bullies, avoid getting hassled or arrested by Chief Wiggum and the Springfield PD, and watch out for attacks by those annoying aliens, Kang and Kodos.

WINNING: Earn enough cash to make the monthly payments on your sweet ride, The Homer, and you win!

LOSING: Otherwise, if you can't make a payment, or pay a kickback to Chief Wiggum, or can't make a quick escape, or if The Homer is totaled in combat, then you lose.
