What's New: More titles added! MMPs lineup is starting to look like GMTs. This is great for the market, but bad for my pocketbook. On the list now are two games not made by MMP, but from the Spanish publisher War Storm Series, the publisher of A las Barricadas. Sorry for the delay of this list! Finally, Devil's Cauldron is very close to being done, weeks now instead of months. As always, other titles have moved up the list and a few more have 'made the cut.' Enjoy! EDIT: I started bolding my comments that are new for this list to make it easier to differentiate it from the older stuff. That way you'll waste less time looking for the new bits.

Like GMT and Columbia Games, Multi-Man Publishing (MMP) has a P500 of sorts. This is a system whereby you can pre-order a title, but you will not be charged until after the game has been printed (the reverse of other P500 systems where you are charged before the game is printed).

Read about it here:

http://www.multimanpublishing.com/preorder/whyPreorder.php

Place pre-orders here:

http://www.multimanpublishing.com/preorder/preorder.php

Enjoy, and comments are always welcome.

The company well known for bringing ASL back to the masses after Avalon Hill was consumed by Hasbro. They're also known for providing The Gamers Operational Combat Series, Tactical Combat Series, and many more. And soon, I hope they'll be well known for their International Game Series, a collection of new games from foreign designers. So far Target Arnhem - Across 6 Bridges, Fire in the Sky, and A Victory Lost have been well received, but the slow progress of the other titles on the pre-order list are mystifying. If you haven't had a chance yet, check them out. You might be surprised by what they offer. Here's a link to the IGS wiki here on BGG:

Notes :

Oh, wow.... the 3D terrain look is very neat!

http://talk.consimworld.com/WebX?233@51.NafXdoGlzVm.0@.ee6f8...

The maps are slated to hit the printers next week. The game boxes are already sitting at MMP ready to be loaded. Some of the counters still need to be proofed while others are already printed, but folks, it's only a matter of weeks now. I've updated the contents section with new counter info... that's a lot of counters! Before it was estimated 9 sheets, now it's at 11.5.

My only regret is that I canceled my pre-order for this game (and all my other ones) since I couldn't risk having it charge earlier this month (thanks to the holidays and house hunting in California -- ouch) and I needed to change my payment info anyway. With luck I'll be back on board before this guy exits the pre-order list.

Finally, if you haven't seen 'em yet hit up the BGG entry to check out the covers on the included rule and scenario books.

With 2008 only a few weeks away (where the hell did 2007 go?) I doubt we'll see this one printed before the end of the year.

Notes :

Well, Case Blue has been printed and shipped, and sadly they didn't do Burma along with it. Expect to see this one in early '08 since from what I've read it'll be more or less a straight reprint with the inclusion of the 4.0 rules. The forums on CSW is abuzz with Case Blue topics, and I couldn't find anything specific for Burma, at least not recently.

Here's my recycled shill text:

If you're wondering about current events in Burma, check out this link:

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/in_depth/asia_pacific/2007/burma/...

A popular member of MMP's Operational Combat Series (OCS), Burma contains small to huge scenarios. The first edition of this game was nominated for the Gamers Choice and Charles S. Roberts awards in 2000.

I hope after they print this one MMP adds Sicily (OCS) to the list. At the current rate of orders this looks like a 2008 release, although a late 2007 release would be fine too! If you haven't tried the OCS yet, here's your chance to get a great game at a great price that'll make a great OCS intro.

If you pre-ordered this game, toss a comment on ejamer's thread here:

Get in the mood with a nice bottle of wine, some candles, an iron maiden, and the following book suggestion by Michael (mgringo):

The Distant Mirror by Barbara Tuchman

Or watch this movie as susggested by Adam Starkweather (adamant):

A Lion in Winter : http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0063227/

Great movie btw, starring two of my favorite actors, Peter O'Toole and Katharine Hepburn.

From Matt Wranovix (mattwran) are the following movie suggestions:

The Messenger : http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0151137/
Henry V : http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0097499/ (I forgot I owned this one)
Henry the Fift : http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0036910/ (no, I didn't typo that.. follow the link to see!)

Also, here's Needle's (nnf1) write-up to get more orders... and it worked!

If you haven't come across this game yet and are wondering what it's like, check out this great play example here:

Want more info? ejamer did an awesome job compiling a ton of info in this thread here:

Simple to learn rules will allow this game to hit your table frequently. Mastering the game on the other hand, that's a whole other story.

Notes :

This one has made the cut! It's slated to ship after South Mountain and Burma, so it'll be awhile but rest assured this guy will get printed and quite possibly before Summer 2008. Also, Dean mentioned that we'll possibly soon see two more SCS titles added to the P500 list: Bastogne and Karelia '44.

Tired of WW2 getting all of the attention? Well, here you go WW1 Commanders!

'Rock of the Marne' is the name given to the American 3rd infantry division for putting up such a fierce defense against what would be Germany's final offensive in July and August of 1918. This game simulates those events, along with the subsequent allied counteroffensive which drove the Germans back over the river Marne but with heavy losses for both sides.

20 orders to go! Mine will be one of those when I re-pre-order in another week or so. Nothing really new concerning this one since everyone is busy with getting DC out the door (and probably Warriors prepped), but check out http://www.boardgamegeek.com/thread/257265 for a nice map comparison between the old edition, and the two new ones (MMP's and the new Japanese printed edition).

And possibly thanks to ejamers thread, http://www.boardgamegeek.com/thread/256377, 6 more orders were placed since he posted his thread 2 days ago. Not a bad turnover!

There's a nice pic link and discussion in this BGG thread:

Check out Needle's (nnf1) 'why you must buy' write-up here:

There's also a great thread I just noticed by ejamer about the same thing here:

http://www.boardgamegeek.com/thread/151561

The game focuses on Oda Nobunaga, an incredibly famous Japanese lord and his battle for control of Japan.

If you forgot to get it the first time, well, here's your chance. This journal will be packed with 24 ASL scenarios and some other goodies like a map and counters and rule book changes. Some things are left out that were in the original printing, but it's listed as advertising materials and rules that are now in the main 2nd ed ASL rule book, so this is only bad if you are still using 1st ed.

Todd Pytel (tppytel) added: "More specifically, what's left out is the last part of Chapter K (the "training" chapter) which is included already in 2nd Edition and isn't very widely read anyway (I've yet to look at my Chapter K after playing for almost a year). The only other piece of rules up for discussion was the comprehensive rout example, which is also included in 2nd Edition. I'm not sure what the decision was about that. The only other changes were to update the ads and fix a couple small errata on the counters."

Later, after seeing I spotlighted his comment because I was too lazy to rephrase everything...

"I would note that I'm in no way connected with MMP and was only reporting what Brian Youse said several months back. So don't hang me if MMP changes their mind about what's in there.

But one way or another, this one needs some preorders. I posted this follow-on to ScoobySnacks's post on the issue on the ASL game page:

"Seriously, though, this reprint needs some support as the preorder numbers have slowed down some. Right now, it's at 384 out of the needed 500. While I may do my fair share of MMP-bashing (mostly on other forums), I will say that offering to reprint this issue is one of the nicer moves at responding to customer demand that I've seen from MMP. So please support it and preorder a copy (or two) rather than just waiting to pick it up later - the recent demise of Samurai Lords shows that MMP is willing to axe a project if it won't reach its number.

For newer players that may be unfamiliar with this issue, J2's claim to fame is the "mini Historical Module" depicting late war action on Okinawa. It also included a great selection of 24 scenarios, including a number of highly regarded ones, good articles, and a selection of errata counters fixing those from various other products. While its preorder price of $37.50 is relatively expensive for a magazine, there's a lot in there and it's a heckuva lot cheaper than paying over $200 on eBay. And MMP has indicated that, even if the P# hits, they won't be printing a lot of these. So even if you're not certain you want it, just order it for $37.50 and turn it over on eBay in a couple more years for an outrageous sum of money. It's a win/win proposition, I tell you! Run! Don't walk! Order now!""

Notes :

***** Old News

GD stands for Infantry Regiment Grossdeutschland (the Infantry Regiment name part actually changed over time).

GD '42 is the 3rd game in the TCS that follows the actions of the GD unit throughout WW2. GD '40 saw them fighting in France, while GD '41 saw them on their way to Moscow and Tula on the Eastern Front.

This time we catch up with them as they're about to be hammered by the Russians during Operation Mars. Historically, the Soviet 3rd Mechanized Corps was chewed up by the GD and left the Germans in a pretty good position, but if you can manage your resources better than the original Russian commanders, things might go differently this time around...

This Tactical Combat Series (TCS) title will come with version 4.x of the TCS rules. GD '40 and GD '41 are not required to play, although after you sink your teeth into this one you might wish you had them (yes, they're OOP, sadly).

Notes :

Nothing really new. For now Adam is using the AVL CSW folder for AVD info (is that enough abbreviations, or should I open up an ASL rulebook to a random page and use some from there too?)

Anyway, hopefully MMP will get the word out that this one exists and the AVL owners will flock to the pre-order trough.

***** Old News

After the success and awards AVL received, I half expected this one to have already reached 500! Anyway, 39 isn't a bad jump as long as it keep that rate. If you loved AVL, this game is a no brainer. Skip Starbucks 5 times and you'll have paid for this game.

Following in the successful footsteps of A Victory Lost comes this new title which for the most part utilizes the same system with a few additions to reflect air support along with more advanced supply rules and command structure rules. I own and have run through (solo) AVL via both VASSAL and with my boxed copy, and while I'm not supposed to pre-order any new games, I'm getting this one. I love the command chit system, and the simplicity makes it an easy one to teach. Due to the simplicity of AVL, it was nearly 100% game play with only a few references to the rules. This one is supposed to clock in at around 6 hours, which to me means 6 hours of pure game play! I guess we'll have to wait and see if the new additions complicate things a bit, but it still won't deter me from adding this to my pre-order pile.

Now, what is the game about? It's a single scenario game that takes place around July 1941 on the Eastern Front. Germany's Army Group Center is pushing towards Moscow and the Russians, whom up to this point were easy pickings for the Wehrmact, finally put up a defense that was a foreshadow things to come as the blitzkrieg came to a halt due to their failures at the Battle of Smolensk. Not sure if this takes place before said battle, or afterwards... but stay tuned, I'm sure Adam will tell all when he gets a chance. Until then, check out this link here for Adam's comments on how the game will be a bit different from AVL:

Notes :

One peek at the CSW folder and you can see how much love this game is getting from its designer. Leonard is a *very* frequent poster and looks more than happy to answer any questions thrown his way. Just recently he posted some bits on a mini scenario. This game, like DC, is a labor of love and it shows. Check it out if you haven't yet.

*****

This game is the culmination of several decades of research, and I really hope extensive designer notes are included, and references too. In brief, the game will cover events which took place between 1937 up through 1945. China, Burma (Myanmar is you prefer the junta's name), along with parts of India (Assam), Thailand (Siam was it's name for part of this time) and Indochina (Laos, Cambodia, and Vietnam) are included as well.

If you have *any* interest in this period, PLEASE pre-order this title. I'd really hate to see it get axed like Samurai Lords did. Don't forget it includes 5 scenarios with variable play time from one to two evenings to much longer.

Please see this thread for some notes from last year about the game:

http://www.boardgamegeek.com/thread/92526

and this link too:

http://groups.msn.com/warofresistance

There is also a ton of info in the CSW folder as well (see link towards the top of this entry), most of it directly from the designer.

Please note, I've read around that this is just like AVL (A Victory Lost) which isn't exactly true. It's similar in concept - basic rules yet complex situations during play. The actual mechanics however are different from AVL, and are more like (but not identical to) SPI's Napoleon at Waterloo.

Lots of goodies will be packed in this 2nd edition of The Gamer's 1991 hit. The game will be updated with a redesign of the rules, along with new maps and graphics too. ACW is my weak point, so I apologize for my weak flavor text. All I know is that Brian Morris (mrbeankc) will probably pre-order this and could provide a much better write up on the history of the game events than I.

Eric Harvey is active in the game's entry if you have any questions about the game. He also posted some nice pics.

Check out his detailicious thread here: http://www.boardgamegeek.com/thread/181383

Based somewhat off Avalon Hill's Atlantic Storm (also note GMT is printing Pacific Typhoon, also based on AH's AS).

Hopefully it'll scale up the pre-order ladder faster than the GMT one (which finally made its cut, but still has a ways to go), dunno why Pacific Typhoon isn't moving faster.

Anyway...

This game should play under one hour (maybe a bit more if you're playing with 6 players), and will feature the divisions, generals, and special units that made their mark on the Western Front. This will make a great war-themed card game to play in between scenarios of Devil's Cauldron!

Notes :

MMP has finally added this highly anticipated title to their pre-order list. The game will be comprised of 9 scenarios that will take place in either the first, second, or third crusades. The system has been described as card driven, and to make sure each scenario is appropriately seasoned with the right measurement of history, the play deck will be modified for each scenario.

The crusades cover a period in time that has always fascinated me, and another game approaching the subject is very welcome indeed. As a primer, I would recommend the historically inaccurate Kingdom of Heaven (Directors Cut), http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0320661 , to give a taste of the setting. Another movie, older, and just as forgetful about history is The Crusades, http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0026249/ , which also covers the 3rd Crusade with King Richard. And if you can find a copy, check out the movie El Naser Salah el Dine from the 60s which, when compared with Kingdom of Heaven, gets a bit more right (and does a few things wrong) so watch both of them.

Finally, check out this great wallpaper by Mark (West2):

Using an impulse system similar to Monty's Gamble, this area-movement game covers the situation in late 1917, in which the British forces attempt to smash through the German Hindenburg Line near Cambrai in Flanders. Naturally, the Germans don't like this, so they screamed and rolled lots of dice to stop the British before they could cross over 22 inches (or is it 34?) of blasted map space.

Notes :

Spruce up your A las Barricadas game with 12 new scenarios that utilize the new included units from the Italian Corp Tropper Colontarie, the German Condor Legion, and the International Brigades. The SCW (2nd one) is a very interesting time in history, and is viewed by some as the war leading up to WW2. The volunteers were a mixture of WW1 vets and commoners that comprised a mixture of communists/socialists (the bulk of the 30K+ volunteers), unemployed joes, mercs, anti-facists, and idealists etc. from, as is claimed, over 50 various countries.

This is not a MMP product. MMP is helping distribute these War Storm modules here in North America. Also, there's two Designer entries. One has a typoed name (Joan instead of Juan). Here is the misspelled one (but this is the one that lists A las Barricadas):

I submitted a correction request. EDIT: Looks like it has been fixed, thanks!
