Another winter storm cut short our gaming on Saturday, and Friday was kept low key due to Sandy feeling a bit under the weather and a no show from Ross.

A Geeklist was not made for the session we had the week earlier, but the games we played that weekend were: Power Grid on the France board (Ross' win); Lord of the Rings at Expert Level (Group win); Tichu (very close and tough game with 1 Grand Tichu on each side called and made, with Jim and Ken squeaking out a win); Afrika (on-going campaign game: Jim as the Axis player/ Ken as the Common Wealth player); and Arkham Horror (where we faced the all mighty Cthulhu and was munched upon as a meaningless snack - as can be seen here: http://www.boardgamegeek.com/image/276960).

MAG is a small group of 4 members who play on Fridays from 7pm to 2am, and on Saturdays from 3pm to around 1am. If you wish to know more about us, contact Jim (kiraly) via GeekMail here: http://www.boardgamegeek.com/user/kiraly. If you live in or near Fort Wayne, IN and are looking for a group, then definitely contact us!

As was mentioned in the header, Sandy wasn't feeling too well, so the planned game of 1856 was postponed until next Friday.

We started out the evening with one of my little favorite card games, Bottle Imp.

I had the pleasure of playing this once before with my old group in California, and now that I have my own copy, I conned Sandy and Jim into a game. Sandy was having a bit of trouble figuring out just what to play, but it's just that kind of game the first few time you play it. Also not feeling 100% doesn't help a whole lot either. I don't know what Jim's problem was as he had no excuse (oops, shouldn't have put that in print).

Final Scores:
Ken: 214
/ Sandy: 93 / Jim: 84

Here's where Ken got his healthy helping of humble pie.

Jim isn't a fan of Carcassonne, claiming he played it way (way, way) too much. Sandy and I didn't mind and it seemed to fit what the group was up for, so out it came. Traders & Builders was already mixed in, but even so we added in The Count of Carcassonne for a little added fun.

As mentioned earlier, I got my butt kicked big time. Jim had stolen a good size castle from me which also happened to be loaded with several commodities. Also during the game, especially towards the end, there was a pretty good battle between the 3 of us over who would get the high scoring farmland - that just happened to be Sandy. This also gave her a 1 point lead over Jim.

We also mentioned Bob Smith (aka Steve Oksienik, aka stormseeker75) several times, so it was just like he was there with us.

Final Scores:
Sandy: 158
/ Jim: 157 / Ken: 104

The last game of the evening was another of my favorites, Hansa.

Sandy picked up on this one with little problem. Jim's defense was that he doesn't like tactical Eurogames. During her plays, Sandy had refreshed the markets 3 or 4 times, so it can't be true that refreshing markets helps others more than oneself.

Final Scores:
Sandy: 41
/ Ken: 35 / Jim: 24

The campaign continued!

The Axis (Jim) were able to cut off and bleed a decent number of units in the Jabel el Akhdar area through turns 10 and 11, but allowed the CW (Ken) to build a rather nice defense around Tobruk. Supply is becoming an issue for the Axis as port limitations (and limitations on coastal shipping) are making it hard to get needed goods to where the action is.

I've been hoping to get this one to the table before the year's end.

Since I had heard that the 3-player game was just as good as a full 4, out it came. I ran down the rules to Jim and Sandy, both of whom have never played before (I had played twice a couple of years ago).

Sandy didn't quite get the hang of it at first, so she fell behind early on. Jim did well (probably due to his Go experience), and played a nice little blocking maneuver that screwed me royally.

Final Scores:
Jim: 47
/ Ken: 43 / Sandy: 30

I hope to play this one again, sometime soon.
