I've printed all the cards and assembled them. Next step is to make a box and the tokens.

I designed my own back for them. I re-arranged the artwork to a 4 card (with back) per page format so I could make them as per the diningtablepnp method and can share the svg files if anyone is interested.

I have played Adaman a few times now and several games of Thricewise which were very much enjoyed by my family.

After 3 years and 7 months I finally finished the last game component for my Avengers/SHIELD retheme of Pandemic: The Cure -- the tracker pegboard! This is made on 1/4" layered wood from a medium-sturdy shipping container, cut with a hand saw and drilled with an electric drill... mostly straight. Straight enough. The layered wood probably helped keep the close together holes from snapping the very thin wood. Then the guide sticker was removed and a new label applied, and holes in the label punched with the drill bit by hand. Worked a treat.

Then I played it!

Oh, oh, oh my! It's been far too long! Hi, all! I went ages with no workspace or budget or time for PnP, and I missed it. I'm so happy to be back in it!

This Geeklist, and specifically the first video, have finally got me ready to try foamcore inserts. Learned that rabbit cutters are both a thing that exists and super useful!

Board Game: Yokohama

Started out upgrading most of the player components. I'm working on a insert design where the player boards will act as a lid for the wooden bits by color, and sit on top during play.

This is a « flip & write » game with a coral reef theme. You may download the PNP files from:

https://grokgames.com.br/atol/

On every turn you flip one card from a deck of 15 cards. Each card represents two underwater creatures - you chose one and draw it into your personal reef board together with the corresponding number. Knowing our drawing skills, I decided to turn the game into « flip & tile ». For every card in the deck I made a corresponding double sided tile. The numbers are visualized by the number of creatures depicted on the tile.

From gallery of tomaszek

The top creature of each card is represented on a lighter blue background, the bottom creature on a darker one. In the game you will cycle through the deck twice, which means 30 tiles per player. Making backgrounds slightly different should help in finding the right tile once a new card is flipped over.

I added some bubble tiles in case you cannot or do not want to place any creature on a given round.

It feels like a light summer game and I hope my kids will like it.

Not crafting this month but i did get the last of the pnp files uploaded and ready for download. Waiting for feedback and all that from the community. I enjoy this game and so did friends and family.

You take on the role of a lobbyist trying to influence the vote of politicians in various committee. It is a take-that looking into the idea of how lobbying has such a huge power base in politics without necessarily taking a political side (in other words, it can be played and enjoyed by all!) fun times trying to shape the vote around your lobbying interest while also trying to sway votes away from issues you don’t want.

I was astonished when I realized Asmodee shared the files for the PnP version of Pandemic HZ for free. I don't even know when that happened, but I only took notice of it last week.
Being in the hobby for 4,5 years now, I am still yet to try any type of Pandemic (which I have been more curious the last 2 years). Plus, my gf also showed interest, not just for vanilla Pandemic but to try the legacy version, after reading about it on reddit.
So, all this cocktail ended up on a great opportunity to try a more basic version of the game. Simpler and faster, just like a demo version of the juicy one. If it is a hit, I will have a new jewel to look for.

Status: PLAYED

Overall thoughts: After a massive (and quick) lost first game, we ended up playing Hot Zone 3 more times in the spread of a week, one of them right after the first game (this is not something that happens that often with my gf). And we won all those 3 games.
I think I can say the game was success between the two of us. I am foreseeing a feeling of repetition on the long run for this one (from my side), but I don't mind that much. The idea of this one was to see how we felt with a cooperative game and the style of it, and we liked it. So now, it is time to look for its big brothers.
Personally, I don't think Hot Zone will have big legs with hobby players. But it is an interesting thing to have for casual ones.

So, Austerity enters in the same category, to me, of games like Odin Quest and Aether Captains: The Search. Which is: games that I thought were super complex on rules until I actually read them.
After going through them yesterday, I realised the game is way less complex than what I thought when I saved it in my folder years ago. More, it is super easy to built and the theme intrigues me a bit, that management of politics.
The one thing concerns me is if I will feel it repetitive the same way I felt Deep Space D-6 and A Rusty Throne to be. I am hopeful the bag element will built against it, but who knows?

Status: PLAYED

Overall thoughts: After two plays, I am intrigued with Austerity's gameplay. At the same time, I am sceptical on how I will feel about it on the long run (there is a high chance of calling it repetitive after multiple plays). But these first two got me interested. A lost and a win.
I lost the first when Employment and Health got to 0 at the same time. After that experience, I realised I needed to take some (calculated) risks, a.k.a. loans, to be able have money to deal with crisis and consequences.
The second game I went for that and pretty much had the game and the tracks under control from mid game on. I will now try some more plays of it before starting to mess with the modules also printed. I specially liked the idea of the scenarios.

PnP notes: Making boards is still a technique I am on early steps. This was my third, if I am not mistaken, actual board making. Each one with different methods. This time, I went with a 6 folded board. It didn't get a mess as I was thinking at some point, but it got a few holes under what I wanted at the beginning. I will have to step up my skill on that aspect.
Tokens I will repeat them in the future if I decide to keep the game. I made a pretty poor choice for them. I went with cardboard (I think it is called like that in english) but I should have gone with, what we call it in portugal, cartão prensado. The tokens were too small to cut on cardboard which lead to some slight bad cuts and the feeling some of the faces can just come out at some point. Live and learn

First time poster, long time reader...

I purchased a copy of “The Toledo War” as pdf and had it printed off at Office Depot on some heavy stock. Sleeved with a magic card behind it for some extra rigidity, and it turned out very nice. Print quality from Office Depot was excellent.

I’m excited to be able to play the game... once life returns to normal. The theme is something that caught my attention. Hopefully I’ll be able to post a review soon.

The other project I’m working on is a retheme of Blitzkrieg!: World War Two in 20 Minutes. I work for GE Aviation and the “battle” that exists between GE and Pratt & Whitney has interested me. I have all the pieces created and need to make the board - I’ll post as soon as I have time to complete.

Board Game: Rising Sun, Tumbling Bear: A Solitaire Game of the Russo-Japanese War (1904-1905).
I mentioned this as a WIP in last month’s list at the same time mentioning that Berserker Games graphics are a bit idiosyncratic. As the PDF component files turned out to be fully editable (although not the ‘board’, of which more anon) I could not resist tweaking them a bit. This process included, inter alia, removing superfluous text on components, e.g. the ‘Japanese Controlled’ marker has the text plus a flag: I settled for a bigger flag. There was quite a lot of this. I also changed the background colours of the unit counters, using the sea or land texture as appropriate, and put drop-shadows on the little people to give a more miniatures-y feel. This is a lot more straightforward task than it may sound as I had put the images into my own grids, which greatly simplifies editing. I printed everything double-sided onto 200gsm card and hot-laminated it using 250 micron pouches. I even did this with the smaller components that I would normally have mounted on card and varnished, as I have recently had problems with the acrylic varnish I normally use dragging the ink of some colours. I put this down to the El Cheapo inks varying a bit. The small components do have a tendency to delaminate however, so it will be back to mounting on card for such.

I arranged the (slightly enlarged) board images into a composite A1 (4xA3) file in DrawPlus. I printed the four parts separately onto A3 sheets (120gsm HR paper), and hot-laminated them, again using 250 micron pouches. I hinged them with ‘Transpaseal’ clear adhesive sheet strips to create a folding board. This works fine with laminated sheets, but I would not recommend it with un-laminated paper and card.
The Whole Thing
A composite of typical components, as completed. The original map design had ship images as the marine waypoints, which looked to me like the English Channel on a busy day. I overlaid the ship images and substituted an image of a compass rose (with Cyrillic lettering by happy chance) that I found on Pinterest.
From gallery of deemac

Campaign
From gallery of deemac

The Russians are one move from victory!
The strange blue lines around the compass rose only appear when printing. I discovered that they can only be hidden by converting the PDF image to a JPEG and printing that. I only noticed them while laminating. Did I mention that my proof-reading/quality control is pants? On that subject I have only just noticed that I have omitted my port marker (an anchor) from Vladivostok. Not that it matters a great deal.
Land Battle
From gallery of deemac

The sample components on the right are as issued, cut-out folded and pasted to form a double-sided counter.
Naval Battle
From gallery of deemac

Again the units on the right are as issued.
Strength Markers
From gallery of deemac

The game files include double-sided square force-strength markers in sets of three. I created hex counters double-sided in sets of two and added a bit of bling. I have superimposed an image of an admiral counter I created as a marker, reserving the (modified) issue one for battle command.

Was it all worth it? I will let you know.

I have rethemed this to several mining companies in a fantasy realm competing to get the title of Royal Mining Company. Renamed the resources and roles - Miners (workers), Merchants (salesman), Experts (Investors). Also the 3 special salesman (for workers, salesman and investors) are now investor types to better integrate with name changes of the roles.

Yet to print.

Easy to reproduce because you only need to print 36 cards (+ 9 for the extended deck). I had had the PnP and a list of game rules for ages and finally decided to try it out by playing the solitaire Window.

I was not thrilled. Perhaps because I expected too much or perhaps simply because it felt like one of the solitaire games I played many years ago with an ordinary deck.

But I'm glad I tried it and, who knows, one day somebody will play with me a more inspiring game...

Earlier today I bought the PnP from the publisher's website (https://buttonshygames.com/collections/pnps/products/sprawlo... for US$ 3 and tried it out at once (solo):

I was not clever enough to win my first game, as I only reached 23 points with a target of 24. But I will certainly try again, because this is a fun game!

The 2020 solo PNP game design contest is going on. We could always use more playtesters! Look for component ready games in the 2nd post.

I do have an entry. I've printed 3, cut 1, and played 1, so far, and it was a worthwhile build.

Made another copy of my current design I'm working on called Critter Grove. My first physical copy had tiles that were way too thin, making them a hassle to move around.

From gallery of BuckWilde

This time around I went with some foam core, which was a beast to cut out. Probably even too think for my purposes! So now I need to find a happy medium between the two prototypes. And I would love to actually print out a PnP copy sometime, but I don't have a great printer, so I've just been hand-drawing on the pieces.

I've been working on retheming BANG:TDG for a while but I finally got pictures up. I made 3 copies: one for us, and two for friends we included in the game. There's not many dice until you make 3 copies!

My copy has thicker balls with some different sizes for tennis and softball, plus a football eraser for the 'Chiefs arrow' expansion. (This was before card rounding.)
