Leading the list is a customisable card game that can be expanded without being collectible.
The artwork is brilliant throughout and each race has its own feel to help create a believable world that interacts with each other.'
9 expansion decks offers the game an age of re-playability but the game is very playable if only the base game is purchased too.
I like this game so much I bought all 9 expansion decks. Now I just have to buy the base game!

This is at the pricier end of the scale but it is sure to be a unique acquisition.
Zopp is air hockey meets soccer and is a dexterity game best suited as a light distraction or BBQ party draw card.
Roughly a small card table in size, Zopp comes with Zopp Powder to help those discs fly across the surface. They then rebound at will thanks to the insulation rubber used in the walls of the field.
Pure magic.

One for the thrift hunters. Cribbage is a great low cost option that many houses don't think of when card games are mentioned. All you need is a cribbage board and a deck of cards.
Luck plays its part here but there is also room for a little skill in card selection and play. I love the ability to try and entrap your opponent during the play phase by enticing them to play a particular card that you can then make a scoring combo out of. Devious minds will like this aspect.

Got a friend that loves Risk or Axis and Allies. If they haven't got Nexus Ops then this is a perfect choice.
The rules are streamlined, the options numerous and Mission Cards help to vary the events and action with each play.
Cool looking aliens are used, and the board is modular meaning that each player is always kept equi-distant, regardless of the number of players.
Most importantly though Nexus Ops encourages aggression and minimises the need to 'turtle' (build up). In doing this Nexus Ops is a combat based game that plays to the genres strengths.
If all that wasn't enough - the combat units glow under a dark light! Dang it I think I need a 2nd copy.

I know very little about this game except that it is a dexterity game based on tennis.
Every collection should have something like this!!!

WWII aerial dogfighting using a card based system. If it sounds cool that's because it is.
And if you are a little 2D challenged you can now get Wings of War Miniatures!!! Mine is on a slow boat from Germany (literally) and may arrive by Christmas 2011 if I am a good boy.
Should you get the gaming shakes and need to get a greater fix, WoW also has a range of expansions.

Many games have tried but failed to deliver a B-Grade Horror Movie in board game form.
Enter LNoE with its 'spot on characters' and eye catching photo illustrations.
This may be a little luck heavy for some but if you are buying for an adrenaline junkie that likes the feel of dice in their hand and horror is their thing - this game is a buy now!

Does your loved one worship the 'beautiful game' even when they know they should be worshipping you?
Do they talk of Henry, Kaka, Ronaldo, Torres or Cahill in their sleep.
If so this game could be for them. It is at this point the best soccer game I have experienced as mixes the tactics of the real thing with abstract style mechanics.
Playing in as little as 15 minutes, this game is also great for the time poor.

Using an alternate world history as the setting, Tannhauser is a Tactical Miniatures Game of kill or be killed with some objective based play thrown in.
This game looks great but is perhaps the most controversial on this list. Do your research, know the recipient and don't be sucked in by the gorgeous graphics unless these mean a lot to you.
This is a gaming system and will take numerous expansions before it truly meets the initial promise. I'm cool with that and I love it but your recipient may not be up for the financial investment.
Also don't believe the box. This is a 2 Player Game.

Not the freshest game on the market but still one of the best. For my money this is still the best game of the C&C Series for non gamers as it looks good enough and offers a streamlined set of rules that won't slow newbies down too much.
Set-Up time is also within a tolerable range and the base game offers 16 scenarios so plenty of replay value.
Card Driven WWII action don't get much better than this.
